FROM THE FIRST SERGEANT In this fast-paced world we

live in, too many things and

people in our lives are taken

for granted. As you all know,

Mother’s Day has passed, Me-

morial’s Day is near, and Fa-

ther’s Day will be here soon.

We sometimes tend to

overlook the underlying im-

portance of certain things and

people in our live who con-

tributed in shaping us into the

person we are. With this be-

ing said, I am asking that we

not forget to let our loved

ones know that the things they

do for us do not go unnoticed.

Let us stop and give thanks

to our spouse, to our par-

ents, to our children, and to

our significant others to let

them know how much they

are appreciated and loved.

Also, let us not forget

that Memorial Day was cre-

ated as an occasion to

honor those who have paid

the ultimate price to ensure

our freedom. Let us stop

and give thanks for the many

that have died protecting

that freedom.

(VIDEO) MAIL CALL! With the time difference between Kuwait and Tennessee we may find it hard sometimes to make the call home at an hour that works both

for the Soldier and our loved ones. Even with internet access and computers or tablets with webcams, we may not be able to find the time to call

or video chat. That being said, there Is an alternate solution. Though it may not be as great as a live call, YouTube offers the ability to load up to a

10 minute video using the same technology Skype, FaceTime, or any of the other video chats use. It also allows for a “private” option, meaning

only people with the link OR access to the account can view them. And, possibly better than live video chat, users have the ability to watch the

videos multiple times. Consider using this to have your soldier read a bedtime story to their children, send messages for special occasions, or a

message that can just be replayed over and over to bring comfort to their little ones.

Step 1: Log in to your You Tube account and

hit upload in the top corner, just to the left of

your user information.

Step 2. If you have already recorded a video

file, hit the big button that says “select files to

upload”. If you haven't recorded one yet, hit the

button on the far right under “create videos—

webcam capture”.

Step 3. When your video uploads you can set

a number of features to include a title, brief

description, category and more. On the right

side, top column you will see a drop down menu

to set your privacy settings. Hit that menu and

select “private”. Once your video has been up-

loaded it will provide you with a link that you

can email to your Soldier or family member so

that they can access the video.

NOTE: There have been issues at times with the

videos once the links are sent saying that the

video is private and is unavailable to load. It may

be easier to have a shared gmail account that

you both can access. From there you can access

any uploaded video once you log into your ac-

count.

We hope this helps you all find just one more

way to utilize the technology available to us and

that it makes this brief separation easier on you.

Getting promoted is a big step in the military. It’s a show of trust in the leadership abilities and skills of the soldiers entrusted to wear the rank

they are receiving.

BEING FAR AWAY FROM HOME IS HARD ON OUR SOLDIERS BUT IT’S ALSO HARD ON THE CHILDREN OF OUR SOLDIERS. RECENTLY WE WERE ABLE TO FIND A GREAT NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDED US WITH A SMALL GIFT FOR OUR MOTHERS AND FATHERS TO SEND HOME TO THEIR CHILDREN. THE 212TH WOULD LIKE TO THANK THOSE AT DOG TAGS FOR KIDS, AND THEIR DONORS, FOR SENDING US OVER 200 OF THE TAGS (PICTURED ON THE LEFT) FOR US TO DISPERSE AND SEND HOME.
