Gathering as God’s Family

Words of Welcome Call to Worship We bring our whole selves to worship the living God. Our heart, soul, mind, and body. For God has created us and sustained us, that we would be renewed. Prelude Come Thou Font of Every Blessing arr. Randall Standridge

DPC Orchestra Prayer of Confession Present Lord, forgive us for whatever moment we are in right now. It leaves us unable and uncertain. The road ahead seems too uncertain and we are lost. We admit that following Jesus is the way, though it is not an easy task. Jesus requires us to be willing to make the ultimate commitment of our whole lives and we hesitate and hold back. Draw us back to you, Lord. Fill us with strength in our whole selves. Give us confidence and courage to face the future with hope. Let us live with the eternal weight of your glory and offer this to others through our own witness to the comfort of your presence. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen (Moment of Silent Reflection and Confession) Assurance of Forgiveness Hear the Good News of the Gospel! In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

Proclaiming God’s Word Old Testament Lesson: Psalm 116:1-12 Pew Bible, NRSV (OT), p. 564 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! Anthem Lord, for Thy Tender Mercies’ Sake Richard Farrant

Chancel Choir Lord, for Thy tender mercies’ sake, lay not our sins to our charge, but forgive that is past, and give us grace to amend our sinful lives,

Time with the Children (After the message, children ages four through third grade are welcome to leave for Children’s Worship

Time. Parents are asked to pick up their children immediately following the service in Room 207, across the bridge and to the right.)

New Testament Lesson: 2 Corinthians 4:13-18 Pew Bible, NRSV (NT), p. 180 Sermon “Worth the Investment” Becca Bateman

“So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day.”—2 Corinthians 4:16

Responding to God’s Word

*Affirmation of Faith 2 Helvetic Confession 5.135 And those who are such in the Church have one faith and one spirit; and therefore

they worship but one God, and him alone they worship in spirit and in truth, loving him alone with all their hearts and with all their strength, praying unto him alone through Jesus Christ, the only Mediator and Intercessor; and they do not seek righteousness and life outside Christ and faith in him. Because they acknowledge Christ the only head and foundation of the Church, and, resting on him, daily renew themselves by repentance, and patiently bear the cross laid upon them. Moreover, joined together with all the members of Christ by an unfeigned love, they show that they are Christ’s disciples by persevering in the bond of peace and holy unity.

Concerns of the Church

(Persons nearest the center aisle are asked to sign and pass the Act of Friendship pad toward the outside aisle. Please keep the cover open as the pad is returned.)

Prayers of the People The Lord’s Prayer (Traditional) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will

be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
