MIDWEEK MATCH REPORTS

John Gorman writes ANDOVER NEW STREET 5-1 ROMSEY TOWN FIRSTLY all credit to the home side on getting the game played on what was a remarkably good playing surface considering the weather that is a constant plague at present and credit too to both sides for an entertaining game which, though the right side won on the night, finished with a score line that did not overall reflect the ninety minutes. The home side made the better start with a Casson Spencer cross causing some confusion in the Romsey area and Jazz Beavis seeing his shot saved at full stretch by keeper Finley Taylor, Beavis sent Ilyas Warshow clear with a clever reverse pass only for Taylor to race from his area and simply up end the forward while making no contact with the ball. This caused the majority of the visiting side to surround the referee loudly giving their views on the matter including one of their front men who ran sixty yards to inform the official, none too politely, that he was wrong. How he could see from that distance is a matter of conjecture. Eventually the referee settled on a yellow card with the keeper saving the resulting free kick. Taylor produced another good save to deny Shane Lock before the home side took the lead with a quarter of an hour played. A determined run by Beavis ended with the ball played in to JASON SILVER’s path and the shot flew past the stranded Taylor. The visitors, finding a lot of room on their left flank, came back with Indrit Elezi pulling his shot across the face of goal and home keeper Chris Wing saving well from James Clifton before we suffered a repeat of the earlier unwanted behaviour as a bad challenge by the home side’s Matt Marriner incurred a deserved caution and saw the referee again surrounded by a mass of yellow shirts. Lock, who tested Taylor all evening, saw a shot pushed round the post before Clifton had a shot blocked at the other end and the half ended with the referee having a summit meeting with three Romsey players, presumably in an effort to stop their almost incessant questioning of decisions. HT 1-0 The second half started with Taylor saving again from Lock before the visitors enjoyed a spell of possession and pressure. Clifton’s control and pace won them a corner that was cleared with some difficulty, substitute Matt Page, who had come on at the break, buried a shot in the keeper’s midriff, Clifton perhaps should have done better when hitting the keeper legs in a one on one situation and Page struck the crossbar with the offside flag raised. Then. as in the first half, the home side scored around the fifteen minute mark. Long crossed from the left touchline, Taylor attempted to catch the ball under the angle of the far post and bar but collided with the post and WARSHOW tapped the then loose ball in to the empty net. Another New Street challenge, deemed worthy of only a free kick by the referee, led to the massed choir surrounding the Official again and after Geoff Dunn tested Wing in the home goal New Street increased their lead to three. Lock, who tormented the Romsey defence throughout, sent Warshow clear wide on the right and inexplicably goalkeeper Taylor raced out of his goal but missed his challenge -perhaps fortunately given his earlier indiscretion – and WARSHOW very skilfully steered the ball in to the vacant net from some twenty five yards. The same two players then combined again on the half hour with LOCK forcing the ball home at the second attempt. Romsey immediately pulled a goal back with PAGE heading home from a corner – no defender on the post – before the home side had the last word. Lock, sent free by Beavis, saw his shot cleared off the line before WARSHOW picked the ball up in the centre circle, moved forward and simply lashed the ball in to the top of the net from all of thirty yards to complete his hat trick Romsey were never four goals worse but the home side were better defensively and took their chances which is a recipe for winning games. And a word for the referee who had a superb evening. Five cautions, four fully

deserved and the other understandable, and he explained his decisions as and when required – often under pressure. Others please take note. FT 5-1 Mike Robins writes CHRISTCHURCH 2-2 HYTHE & DIBDEN WITH less than 30 seconds on my watch, and with many people not settled in their positions, Christchurch raced into an early lead through Luke STONE, evading a couple of challenges before drilling the ball home from an acute angle. The same player then tried his luck from fully 35 yards that saw the strike bounce down off the crossbar and was cleared to safety, but the striker wasn’t going to be denied a second on 24 minutes- starting the move on the right he picked out Harvey Wright who dribbled into the area and STONE was on hand to slide the ball home for 2-0. An almost immediate response came from the visitors, Christos Papakonstantinou played the ball in and Zac WILLIS struck the net with his shot squeezed between post and keeper at the Clubhouse End of the ground. Both sides came close to another goal, but at the break the hosts had a slender one goal advantage. HT 2-1 Stone came close to a hat trick some five minutes after the restart whilst at the other end both Cain Prentice and Rich Bridle could perhaps have done better when seemingly well placed. However Hythe got their deserved equaliser on 73 when WILLIS fired home from the edge of the penalty area. Both keepers produced some top save to keep the score at two apiece with shots from Willis and Ben Satterley being the best of the bunch. ON to the dreaded penalties then after 90 minutes. Hythe went first and scored but Christchurch’s opener was saved by Cotton, his opposite number Gunstone-Grey did likewise to stop Hythe’s third and with the final kick Max Wilcock converted the all-important one to send Christchurch through to the League Cup quarter final. FT 2-2 (4-3 on penalties) Gary Day writes TOTTON & ELING 0-2 HYTHE & DIBDEN THE heavy rain from earlier in the week has changed to near to freezing at the end of it as it was a very cold evening at Miller Park. Hythe & Dibden were the visitors for a local derby who were looking to pull clear at the top of the Division 1 table. The first half saw the visitors have the better of it but they were up against a resolute and resistant home side. Mig Dark headed against the Millers bar in the opening minutes whilst Slade headed over shortly after. Sam Woodward’s free-kick from a central position was at home keeper Eyres. Those opportunities occurred in the opening ten minutes and play settled for a spell with Hythe having more possession. With the game drifting towards the half-hour mark, Hythe’s Golding made a surge forward but his firm shot went wide of the far post and Prentice controlled well but he too shot wide. Prentice had a further chance near to half-time but his shot was comfortably saved by Eyres. HT 0-0 A damp dew had formed on the pitch for the start of the second half. The visitors moved into an advanced position with Dark on the left and his low ball into the middle saw Willis challenged and the ball went clear. It appeared to be no more than a mere coming together but referee Nowacki pointed to the penalty spot which was upheld following a consultation with his assistant and DARK firmly despatched the penalty to give his side a 49th minute lead. The home side continued to compete well but struggled to threaten an equaliser. A corner by Hythe’s Woodward picked out Floyd whose firm header was nodded off the line by Gain. However, a second Hythe goal materialised when WOODWARD took another flag kick that was in-swinging and had lovely flight as Eyres jumped but was unable to get his hand to it and the ball nestled straight into the far corner.

Hythe searched for more goals when Prentice’s dangerous ball went straight across the box and Golding battled forward but Eyres held the low shot at his near post. Totton & Eling had two successive chances on 78 minutes which proved to be a rare venture toward the Hythe goal at that point. However, this led to further Millers raids as they finished strongly. Hythe keeper Cotton, in trying to control a back-pass under pressure, got a poor touch and was relieved to see the ball strike his own post. Sub Hartley tried to work a chance but Slade did well to clear whilst a Gain free-kick clipped the top of the visitors’ bar. Pasieka then did well to block a Selby shot to concede a corner as the Hythe defence worked hard in that spell to quell the late home threat. Overall, it was a deserved win for Hythe in a game played in a good spirit. They moved three points clear at the top of Division 1 with the Saturday games to play. FT 0-2

MIDWEEK ROUNDUP

Tuesday and Wednesday should have seen the bulk of the Third Round League Cup fixtures completed but the intervention of the weather meant that the ties at AFC Stoneham, Cowes and Hamble Club were postponed along with the Premier Division fixtures at AFC Portchester and Fareham. Two Cup Ties did go ahead and Bournemouth seemed to appreciate the break from their problems in the League as goals from Dan Brennan and Fabio Manuel gave them victory over Lymington. The other completed tie was at Christchurch though it needed penalties before the home side eventually came out on top against Hythe and Dibden. Luke Stone scored twice for Christchurch and Zac Willis matched that for Hythe before the penalties decided matters. The one Division One fixture on the evening was at Andover New Street where, on a very good playing surface, and helped by an Ilyas Warshow hat trick, the home side defeated Romsey by five goals to one. Romsey were not four goals worse on the night but the home side were better defensively and took their chances. The other scheduled game would have seen Alresford travel to Camberley in the Aldershot Senior Cup but that too succumbed to the weather. Wednesday unfortunately followed Tuesday with regard to the weather causing the League Cup Tie at Baffins Milton Rovers and the Division One fixture between Fawley and Follands to be added to the list of matches to be re-arranged. It would be fair to say it has not been the best of weeks.

CLUB NEWS

Goalkeeper Simon Moore made his Premiership debut for Sheffield United against Manchester United last Sunday. He is Isle of Wight born and played for Brading Town between 2004 and 2008 in our League, making 39 appearances for the club in 2008. Whitchurch United’s Robbie Henderson made his 100th club appearance in their game against Folland Sports last weekend. He continues to be a great club servant to the Jam Boys, playing in several positions over his time with the club, well done Robbie- pictured left with club Chairman Peter Adams. There’s a new arrival at Foxcotte Park, where Finley Hall has been added to the squad, and also at Brockenhurst; with central defender Patrick Wilson moving there from Bournemouth and Harrison White coming across from Hamworthy United. Couple of changes in the Management team at Fawley, where Jon Page has come in as Goalkeeper Coach, and Ben Whittle has joined the Oilers as First Team Coach. Ben comes from Romsey Town where he was their Development Team Manager.

SWANNING AROUND DAYS PARK

Swanage Town & Herston Football Club was formed by a merger of Swanage Town and Herston Rovers in 1966, the Club at that stage known as Swanage Town but having been formed as Swanage Albion as far back as 1894. The “new” Club started life in the Dorset League before spending fourteen seasons in the Western League from where they joined the Wessex League for the first time in 1990/91. They enjoyed a very successful initial season, finishing second to Havant Town and stayed for a further five seasons until being relegated and re-joining the Dorset Combination. Their overall League record during those six seasons reads as follows:

PL W D L F A Pts 238 82 41 115 365 496 287

This equates to 1.20 points and 1.53 goals scored per game. Four seasons followed in the Dorset League before a third place finish in 2000 saw them return to the Wessex League for two fairly disastrous seasons, finishing twentieth out of twenty three and then finishing bottom and returning to the Dorset League The figure for those two seasons does not make for the best of reading if you are a Swans supporter:- PL W D L F A Pts 88 14 10 64 83 297 52

Which break down to 0.94 goals and 0.59 points per game whilst the goals conceded equate to 3.37 per game so on average, they lost every game three one. They returned to the Dorset Premier League where they have remained to this day with their highest League finish being fourth in 2010 though they have appeared on the Sydenhams landscape recently with a protracted Dorset Senior Cup tie with Verwood Town which prompted these facts and figures. Returning to their pre-Wessex days, between 1957 and 1963 they won the Dorset Combination League four times

and were runners up twice whilst they were Champions of the Western League Division One in 1987, finishing ahead of the reserve sides of Bath City and Yeovil. They have, since 1935, played at their present Ground at Days Park – always a hospitable and pleasant place to visit – and have made occasional overtures to return to the Sydenhams League, but without ever seeing them through. Perhaps one day -and they will be warmly welcomed.

LEAGUE NEWS

Promotion Applications are now open for Hampshire Premier League Senior Division clubs, the FA have opened the application process to be considered for promotion to Step 6, the equivalent of our Division One. Copies of the various documentation for completion together with payment details have already been issued and at the same time, the Hampshire Premier League have reminded that any successful applicant will be added to the pool of clubs at Step 6, and it is not automatic that a club would be placed in our League, instead another Step 6 league more suited to the clubs geographical position could be the outcome.

SPOT PRIZE In October 2013 the Sydenhams Wessex League enjoyed a brief spell of national “fame” after the outcome of a Hampshire Senior Cup tie between Brockenhurst and Andover Town played at Grigg Lane on Tuesday the 15th of that month. It was a routine midweek fixture between two Clubs in the Premier Division and Division One respectively played under the auspices of the Hampshire FA and after ninety minutes the game was scoreless and that was still the case after, at that time, the then statutory thirty minutes of extra time. And so to the penalty shoot-out that was to go in to footballing history. Eventually Brockenhurst triumphed by converting fifteen spot kicks to Andover’s fourteen – twenty nine penalties in total and all successfully converted. (This surpassed the twenty seven in a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie between Dagenham & Redbridge and Leyton Orient two years earlier). On the night the standard of the penalty taking was obviously high but there were a couple of goalkeeping “gaffes” that contributed to the very late finish. How late that was is beyond recall at this stage but it was Wednesday before the trip home to the wilds of Overton was completed. The above was bought to mind by events at Taunton earlier this month when a Southern League Cup Tie – without the benefit of extra time – between Taunton Town and Truro City needed thirty four spot kicks to decide the outcome after the scores were level at two apiece after ninety minutes. The home side actually missed the very first kick and both sides missed three of the opening five before Taunton went through twelve eleven – twenty three scored, twelve missed overall. The Taunton Chairman bemoaned the fact that his side could have won it very early in the shoot-out but what could have been the winning kick was the equivalent of a very wide delivery in cricket. The whole penalty saga took 34 minutes, the last thing an away side would want on a midweek evening when you are one hundred and twenty miles from home! One has to go slightly further afield for the longest penalty shoot-out, to Namibia where a Cup Tie in 2005 between KK Palace and the Civics needed 48 kicks before the conclusion was reached with 33 successfully converted. The Namibia National side are currently 119th in the FIFA World rankings and have twice reached the Final Stages of the African Cup of Nations. Civics still compete in their Premier Division but if KK Palace are still in existence they must be at a lower level. Given the weather in this day and age and the inherent fixture congestion, games will continue to be decided when necessary by “kicks from the penalty mark” to quote the official FA jargon - but is it really satisfactory?

WEEKEND MATCH REPORTS

Roger Allen writes HAMWORTHY UNITED 1-4 PLYMOUTH PARKWAY PLYMOUTH Parkway had impressed against Sydenhams League opposition in earlier rounds and this was their highest tally of goals but they were flattered by the margin of victory against a hard working Hamworthy side. They did have an early chance when Teagan Rosenquest shot wide but the Hammers were denied a penalty when Dan Cann was unable to stay on his feet when under challenge from Parkway's keeper Kyle Moore. The first goal arrived after 6 minutes when a cross field ball by Jamie Lowry reached Jordan COPP. The winger took the shot early before he could be closed down and the ball flashed into the net past keeper Ollie King. Although Hamworthy settled after this, you had the feeling that they were hanging on to a confident Parkway side. Jack Calver was put through by Copp but his shot was wide then seconds later Copp provided Adam Carter with a chance but his shot trickled to safety off the foot of a post. On the half hour Ashley Pope had a rare chance for Hamworthy but he hit the side netting. Two minutes later they were back on level terms in controversial circumstances. Following a throw-in the ball was swept across field to Ollie DAVIS and, very reminiscent of the first goal, he beat Moore with a low shot. In unison Parkway players surrounded the referee to complain - though what about was a mystery until half time when somebody explained that they thought the throw-in should have been given the other way. Previous composure by Parkway disappeared and as the half ran down Hamworthy were back in the game. HT 1-1 Hammers started well in the second period but Fawzi Saadi was unable to control a shot when well placed. Just when Hamworthy were beginning to dream that this might be their day, they were hit by two sucker punches in three minutes. Parkway's two wingers, Copp and Rosenquest swapped sides at half time and on 55 minutes the ball reached COPP to the right of the goal. His marker failed to remember his instructions to stop him cutting inside onto his left foot and his shot beat King at his near post. On 57 minutes the Hammers defence made the same mistake when trying to deal with COPP but this time he beat King with a cross shot high into the net at the far post. After 72 minutes Hamworthy had a chance to get back into the game as Pope rounded the keeper but he could only find the side netting with his shot from a narrow angle. Apart from this, Parkway were happy to contain Hamworthy though their defender Ryan Lane did burst forward but his shot flashed across goal. With 6 minutes remaining Parkway put the icing on the cake as Copp played in Rosenquest whose shot was parried by King but only to COPP and he wasn't going to miss with his left foot on this day. So Parkway march on - many people's favourites to reach Wembley. FT 1-4

John Gorman writes CHRISTCHURCH 2-1 FALMOUTH TOWN CHRISTCHURCH reached the Fourth Round of the FA Vase for the first time since the 2008/09 season with a hard earned but deserved win over Falmouth Town from the South West Peninsula League. The Cornish side were accompanied by a large number of supporters that made up at least half, if not more, of the attendance, which was in excess of two hundred, and the majority of them filled the Stand at the Clubhouse end for the opening half. The game took a long time to get going before the home side eventually gained some ascendancy with a Kyle Graham shot too high and Max Wilcock’s header from a corner being very well saved by keeper Ryan Barnes. If there is a dearth of mention of the Falmouth players by name in this report it is entirely due to the fact that the numbers on their shirts were totally unreadable unless one was within touching distance. Two home corners came to nothing and a free kick on the edge of the “D” failed to get past the defensive wall before the first visiting attack of any note saw Luke Brabyn fire over after a long run and cross by Martyn Duff. One of the visiting players – number and therefore name unknown - possessed a prodigious throw to such an

extent that one ball hurled in to the area actually went over the crossbar. A snap shot by visiting full back Oliver Moody almost went in to orbit and home keeper Lewis Gunstone-Grey had to leave his area to deny Brabyn as he chased a through ball with the striker having started from a position that looked yards offside. After the home side’s Ben Satterley had received a lengthy lecture for an untidy, to say the least, challenge the ifs, buts and maybes that are so much part of football came in to the equation. A Falmouth player burst in to the area, there was a collision or challenge, the player tumbled over, the visitors wanted a penalty but the referee, who looked well placed, said no. VAR would have had a field day and the yellow and black clad hordes behind the goal had no doubt but the only outcome was a caution for full back David Blizzard for stating his views on the matter. Then, to add insult to injury as far as Falmouth were concerned, and with forty five minutes on the clock, home full back Brad Cherrett swung a free kick in from the right touch line and Jon BLAKE, unmarked, headed home to send his side in a goal to the good at the break. HT 1-0 The yellow and black invaders trekked to the other end for the second half which started with a smart save by Gunstone Grey in the opening seconds from Brabyn’s shot on the turn. A Matt Neale header grazed the bar for the home side before Gunstone Grey re-acted smartly again to reach a blocked clearance that was heading goalwards. This was part of a spell of Falmouth pressure that saw two more saves by the home keeper and, after Luke Stone had briefly threatened at the other end, an equaliser which owed more to the home defence than the visiting attack. There seemed little danger as the ball was pumped forward but defender and goalkeeper hesitated – though the ball never looked like reaching Gunstone Grey – and BRABYN gleefully took full advantage. All to play for with twenty five minutes remaining. The home side came back strongly with Barnes saving twice in quick succession, the second at the expense of a corner from which Christchurch regained the lead. The kick was from the right and, as with the first goal, GRAHAM headed home unchallenged. Throughout the afternoon the two visiting central defenders won virtually everything in the air when the ball was played forward but they were strangely susceptible to crosses. Just five minutes after being pegged back Christchurch were now ahead again. Gunstone-Grey superbly claimed a corner under severe pressure from the aforementioned defenders and Stone and Wilcock twice combined with one effort from the latter pushed round the post and the other just wide, but it was the visitors with the upper hand as they threw everything at the home side in search of an equaliser, Christchurch did not help themselves by conceding too many free kicks in the middle of the pitch that were pumped in to the area along with numerous throws, but the home defence, with a little bit of luck and some safe hands between the posts, held firm for the last ten minutes plus some seven minutes stoppage time. Where seven minutes came from is a mystery but it happens game after game. On the day Christchurch deserved their win, the opposition lacked any real threat up front, and will be the league’s only representative in the next Round. A home draw would be nice – as long as it is not Plymouth Parkway who claimed their third Sydenhams scalp of the season just a few miles down the road. Finally credit to the travelling Falmouth support for making the lengthy journey in such numbers and for their non-stop backing of their side, we could have done without the drum and one wonders as to the origin or reason for the repeated choruses of “Molly Malone”. There is a statue of the lady in Dublin but a connection with Falmouth? Hopefully they had a safe journey home. December now as stressed by the Matrix on the M3 at Winchester on the way home that said salt spreading! FT 2-1

Starting in Dorset, Holt United collected the points from a 2-0 win at Portland. Gillingham Town overwhelmed visitors Corfe Castle 8-1. Sherborne remain rooted to the bottom of the table going down 5-1 at Bournemouth Sports. Blandford United secured another impressive win, this time 3-0 at home against Balti Sports. Sturminster Newton picked up a valuable three points with a best of three win at Swanage. Heading east, Bush Hill maintained their place at the top of the table with a 4-2 win over Liphook United, whilst Infinity kept up the pressure on top spot and remain unbeaten in the league this season with a 3-0 win over Paulsgrove. Fleetlands moved into third spot scoring five and keeping a clean sheet at Sway. More big winners were Overton United with a 4-1 win over Chamberlayne Athletic and in the other game, Clanfield’s narrow 2-1 win over Winchester Castle moved them into the top half of the table. Looking north, in Wiltshire all of the top five won so no changes at the summit. Wroughton won by the od goal in five over Frome Collegians with Corsham Town hitting five against Cricklade in an eight goal game. Shrewton scored four without reply against Stratton Juniors and Purton had a best of five win at Marlborough. The top flight in the Wyvern Combination saw Wimborne Town win 7-4 at Baffins’ Portsmouth University pitch whilst Poole Town scored three without reply at Portchester and Horndean won by the odd goal in five at Hamble, in the only three games played.

In the Southern League Premier Division Blackfield & Langley shared four goals and the points in their clash at Gang Warily against Hendon whilst Wimborne Town went down by the odd goal in five at Hayes & Yeading. Poole Town went down to a single goal defeat at Tatnam against Taunton Town and Salisbury lost by the by the odd goal of three at Walton Casuals. Gosport Borough are the highest ranked former member club in this Division, sitting sixth after a 3-2 win at Tiverton Town yesterday. In the Southern section Winchester City stay third just a point over yesterday’s opposition, Paulton Rovers, who they shared the points with in a one all draw, AFC Totton beat Evesham 3-1 to see them leapfrog Basingstoke Town who went down 8-0 at leaders Frome and Willand scored one less at Silver Street where Moneyfields were the visitors. Sholing collected the points in a 3-1 over visitors Slimbridge to jump to 13th in the table. Congratulations go to former member club Eastleigh who find themselves in the Emirates FA Cup 3rd Round draw after yesterday’s late afternoon home game against Crewe where a late equaliser from the hosts earned the replay in the tie that ended one each.

WEEK EIGHTEEN ROUND UP

n almost full League programme but the day was headed by two Third round Buildbase FA Vase fixtures that ended with one win and one defeat for our sides involved. Congratulations to Christchurch who progressed to the Fourth Round for the first time since season 2008/09 with a hard

fought but deserved two one victory over Falmouth Town at Hurn Bridge. A goal in each half from Jon Blake and Kyle Graham enough to see them in to Monday’s draw. Hamworthy United however found Plymouth Parkway a different proposition as the Devon side secured their third win over a Sydenhams Club in the season so far and all away from home. Ollie Davis scored the home goal in the four one defeat with Jordan Copp, who had only scored twice in eleven appearances before yesterday, scoring all the visitors’ goals. In the Premier Division leaders Alresford were held by Brockenhurst in a high scoring draw at Arlebury Park as the Badgers continued their return to form. Craig Harding scored all three of the home side goals with Mitch Speechley-Price netting two for the visitors. Hamble Club climbed in to second position, perhaps for the first time in their history, with a 3-1 win at struggling Amesbury and with Christchurch and Portland involved elsewhere and the Baffins AFC Portchester fixture postponed because of the ongoing pitch problems, AFC Stoneham moved in to fourth place scoring three without reply at Solent University, their fourth win in five matches. Bashley’s recent run of success came to a halt at Cams Alders where Fareham won by the odd goal in three and Lymington ensured that Shaftesbury’s poor record away from home continued with a three nil victory at the Sports Ground with Dom Falco again on the score sheet. Horndean gained a comfortable 4-1 win over Bournemouth helped by two goals from Alfie Lis and the Poppies position at the lower end of the table was not helped by Cowes Sports gaining a valuable point in a two all draw at Fleet in front of the highest League attendance of the day. Perhaps it is Christmas on the horizon or the weather but the attendances overall were down on the day. All the above still leaves Alresford ten points clear at the top with four points covering the next ten Clubs. One League Cup Tie played on the day and Portland will have enjoyed the long ride home after a four one win at Tadley Calleva with young striker Bailey Rowe scoring a hat trick for the Dorset side.

The Division One table looks considerably different following yesterday’s results and Pewsey Vale’s record being expunged. Hythe & Dibden started the weekend in top place and a hard earned two goal win at Totton & Eling on Friday evening would normally have meant that they would have retained top spot, but US Portsmouth’s three goal win at East Cowes Vics coupled with the Pewsey situation propelled them two points clear. Dec Seiden scored twice at Whippingham with James Franklyn completing the scoring with his customary goal.

To date this season there had been only two goalless draws in the Division but following the results at Ringwood and Petersfield that figure is now doubled. Ringwood held promotion contenders Downton whilst Andover Town’s new found defensive stability ensured a share of the points at Love Lane. Skipper Matt Scott scored twice in Andover New Street’s four three win over Fawley and Romsey conceded five for the second consecutive match as Bemerton took all three points at the Bypass ground – Justin Bennett notching a hat trick. Alton won again in their now ”normal” manner – three different goal scorers in their three one defeat of Laverstock & Ford - the win leaves them in fourth place - but Whitchurch lost ground going down four one at home to Newport who had four different scorers to thank for the points. Finally plaudits to New Milton who gained their first away win of the season with a three one victory at Verwood with Jack Cooper again among the goals. Lee Vint notched the consolation for Verwood as their poor home form continued. A good day for some, not so good for others as the weather allowed a return to normal service but it is Christchurch who deservedly take the headlines. A home draw on Monday will be nice.
