Ask ten people how they

feel about Valentine’s

Day and it would be

plausible, if not definite, to get

ten different answers. Some sug-

gest it is a “created holiday”

only conceived to make money

by manipulating women and

men in its importance. Others(read as single people) take a

more bitter stance to the day

and its in-your-face (you can’t

open your eyes without seeing a

heart), over priced flowers (it

does get ridiculous), chocolate

covered everything (well every-

one loves chocolate covered on

something) approach that is

Valentine’s Day.

Whatever one may think,

in reality the day of “love” issimply that; one day out of the

year that calls out everybody

and brings his or her feelings to

the forefront. Whether single or

committed, Valentine’s Day

makes you think about loved

ones. Silly at times with a little

too much focus on the material

aspects of it, February 14th is

not about giving or receiving

gifts, although lately it hasevolved to that. At its core,

Valentine’s Day is about dedi-

cating yourself unconditionally

to a loved one for 24 hours.

One may say that people

should always treat each other

this way and it’s true, but unfor-

tunately unrealistic. Too many

times we get caught in the daily

web of work, responsibilities,

and other frivolous tasks thatseem important on any given

day. Valentine’s Day makes peo-

ple check themselves and

reminds them of what is essen-

tial; why they work hard every

day and night, and that is for

the people we love. If it were up

to most of us we would be on a

beach somewhere not stressing

about tomorrow and loving

today, instead we work hardhour to hour losing countless

nights of sleep, and we do it for

the people we love. I do not see

anything wrong with a day that

reminds us of that.

Happy Valentine’s Day,

make the best out of it. Love ya!

This became a major industrial

In my more than 30 years

in the financial services

industry, I have found

that quite a few people have

no clue about correct andprudent retirement planning

to include: asset accumula-

tion and lifetime income

planning, portfolio manage-

ment, inter-generational

wealth transfer (estate plan-

ning), long-term care plan-

ning, the purchase of disabil-

ity insurance - health insur-

ance - liability insurance andlife insurance, mutual funds,

annuities, Medicare and

Social Security benefit plan-

ning, reverse mortgages,

when to refinance a mort-

gage, buying vs. leasing a car,

owning vs. renting a home,

pension elections for income

maximization and what to do

with a settlement from a law-suit, lottery winning or an

inheritance.

So, after careful consid-

eration and thought, I have

decided to solicit financial

questions from my loyal read-

ers of Life and Leisure so that

I may respond to your exact

concerns in this column

every issue. Much like a DearAbby or Ann Landers col-

umn, readers may write, send

an email, or send a fax with

their question(s) to me for a

response in this publication,

for all to benefit. All ques-

tions should include the

name and contact informa-

tion of the requester and

whether or not their namemay be published or omitted

or changed if they wish to

remain anonymous.

Questions may be edited for

privacy or space limitations

for the responses, with no

limit on the number of ques-

tions that a reader may ask.

I receive inquires and

questions from readers peri-

odically by email, by phone

and some by appointment,

but, never has the thought

occurred to me, until now, to

request a readership wide

audience participation of the

questions and their answers

that either you felt there was

no one to ask or perhaps were

Tax returns for 2011

are barely begun but

it is not too early to

start thinking about tax

planning strategies for 2012.This is by no means an all-

encompassing list, so be sure

to discuss your specific situa-

tion with your tax profes-

sional. Some important tax

code changes for 2012 are:

Individuals

Each personal and

dependent exemption is

$3,800 - an increase of $100

over 2011.

The 2012 standarditemized deduction rose

slightly. A taxpayer filing as

single (or married filing sepa-

rately), saw a $150 increase

to the basic deduction as it

rose to $5,950. Married cou-

ples filing a joint return

gained a $300 deduction to

$11,900. Those filing as

Head of Household have an

additional $200 deduction as

the amount increased to$8,700.

The maximum earned

income tax credit for low and

moderate income workers

rose to $5,891 for 2012, a

$140 increase from 2011.

Standard mileage rates

regarding charitable milesdriven remained unchanged

at 14 cents per mile. The

deduction for medical

mileage changed to 23 cents

per mile. Business miles driv-

en increased to 55.5 cents

per mile for most vehicles

earlier in 2011 and that

amount remains unchanged

going into 2012.

Though the credit

amounts don't change for2012, the modified adjusted

gross income threshold at

which the lifetime learning

education credit begins to

phase out is $104,000 for

joint filers and $52,000 for

single filers. This is up from

$102,000 and $51,000,

respectively.

Perhaps the item with

the potential for greatest

impact is the decreasedAlternative Minimum Tax

(AMT) exemption from

$74,500 to $45,000 for a

married couple. Single tax-

payers and those filing Head

of Household experience an

exemption decrease from

$48,450 to $33,750. Be sureto discuss this change with

your tax professional - the

potential impact could be

significant.

Lastly, the FICA ceiling

rose to $110,100 from

$106,800. The good news is

that the employee rate

remains at 4.2% at least

through February 29, 2012.

Currently, that rate is slated

to increase to the historicrate of 6.2% after that date,

but many believe the lower

rate will be extended for the

entire year. Touch base with

your CPA in mid-February to

see what happens.

Businesses

Depreciation is often a

significant deduction for

businesses. Unfortunately,

two significant depreciation

deductions decreased for2012. The Code Section 179

deduction for equipment pur-

chases is $139,000 of the first

$560,000 of business proper-

ty placed in service during

2012. This is down from

$500,000 of the first

$2,000,000 in 2011. First-year bonus depreciation also

decreased to 50% of qualified

property (down from 100%).

Many other very specific

changes occurred regarding

certain employee fringe ben-

efits, estimated tax payments

and qualified retirement

plans - to mention just a few.

Please keep in mind this is

not a complete list of

changes for tax year 2012 -and there likely will be fur-

ther changes as the year pro-

gresses. Due to current eco-

nomic conditions - and the

fact that this is an election

year - it is more important

than ever to keep in contact

with your CPA. Income tax

planning is only one of the

many ways to increase your

wealth potential!

Chiropractic doctors

have long held that

posture - meaning

body alignment and balance -

is intimately related to

health. As a chiropractor, I

am encouraged to see medi-

cine is now acknowledging

the power of this relationship.

An article in the AMER-

ICAN JOURNAL OF PAIN

MANAGEMENT, entitled

"Postural and Respiratory

Modulation of Autonomic

Function, Pain and Health" by

  J. Lennon, illustrates the

gains medicine has made in

recognizing the effect of pos-

ture on health. Some of the

points expressed include:

•Posture, and normal physi-

ology and function, are inter-

related.

•Abnormal posture is evi-

dent in patients with chronic

pain-related conditions suchas backache, headache and

stress-related illness.

•Posture affects and moder-

ates every physiologic func-

tion, both consciously and

unconsciously, from breath-

ing to hormonal production

to thinking.

•It appears homeostasis and

autonomic regulation are

intimately connected with

posture.

•Despite the considerable

evidence posture affects

physiology and function, the

significant influence of pos-

ture on health is missed or

not addressed by most physi-

cians.

Helping improve and

maintain correct posture is

one of the primary goals of

chiropractic care. Regular

evaluation of posture and

spinal alignment is vital to

ensuring not only normal

spinal function, but good

health. For this reason, it is

important that chiropracticcare should begin early in

childhood and continue

throughout life.

Has your family been

checked lately?

Drs. Glenn and Christine Foss

are the owners of Advance

Sports Medicine & Chiroprac-

tic Center in Riverdale. Both

doctors have been practicing

chiropractic for over thirteen

years and have been amongst

the communities leading health

care providers. As innovators

in health care, they have

merged chiropractic and physi-

cal rehabilitative services to-

gether to enhance the quality of

 patient care and overall treat-

ment outcome. If you have

any questions for either of thedoctors or would like to sched-

ule a consultation please call

QIs exercise good for

your skin?

A. Joanne says…. Exercise is

not something I look forward

to. The mere thought of leg

lunges or sit-ups makes my

body ache without even doing

anything but I do know that it

is an important part to my

health and longevity. So to get

moving I make sure I walk

everyday and fit in at least 20 to

30 minutes of yoga. It’s not a

lot, but it’s something plus this

type of exercise relaxes my

brain and reduces my stress.

A good workout is not

only good for your waistline but

it has a myriad of benefits for

your whole body, your com-

plexion being one of them.

I’m sure you have heard of

cortisol. Well cortisol is a stress

related hormone and in todays

multi-tasked over committed

world, we have plenty of it and

too much is not good. Exercise

helps our bodies maintain

healthy levels of cortisol. Too

much of this stress related hor-

mone wreaks havoc on our

bodies and causes an imbal-

ance. We will see increased

sebum production which clogs

pores and causes acne, and a

breakdown of collagen which

leads to wrinkles and sagging

skin.

Exercise is nourishing to

your whole body, it gets your

heart going and supplies much

needed blood and oxygen to all

your organs. This increased

blood supply is full of nutrients

and stimulates collagen pro-

duction which helps keep your

skin firm and smooth. This

increased blood supply feeds

and stimulates hair follicles

helping hair grow strong

healthy and shiny. The

increased blood circulation

feeds your whole body and

helps correct any imbalance

including any hormonal imbal-

ance which can cause adult

acne. It also helps release tox-

ins from your organs, and cells,

plus all that sweat unclogs

those pores.

So get moving… and

remember it doesn’t have to be

all sit-ups and leg lunges, just

30 minutes of a few simple yoga

moves or a nice brisk walk

maybe three times a week, will

add years to your life and give

you a nice healthy glow.

 Just remember… Sweat is

good; it’s just your fat crying…..

Valentine’s Day is upon

us. This is a day to

celebrate our loved

ones and show them we care.

We also have to take care of

our four–legged loved ones as

some Valentine’s Day gifts and

ideas may be hazardous to

your pets.

The most obvious warn-

ing is: Don’t Let Your Pets Eat

Chocolate. Chocolate is one

of the traditional gifts on

Valentine’s Day but can be

very dangerous to pets, even

life threatening. The toxic

compounds in chocolate

are methylxanthines, mainly

theobromine and less impor-

tantly caffeine. The amounts

of theobromine and caffeine

vary with the type of choco-

late. For instance, unsweet-

ened (Baker's) chocolate con-

tains 8-10 times the amount

of theobromine as

milk chocolate. This

is a very common tox-

icity in dogs and seen

less in cats just by

nature of their eating

habits.

Clinical signs of

chocolate toxicity

usually occur within 6

to 12 hours of inges-

tion. Theobromine

affects the body as a

Central Nervous

System (CNS) stimu-

lant, cardiovascular

stimulant, increases

blood pressure and nausea.

Therefore, common signs of

chocolate toxicity are: vomit-

ing, diarrhea, hyperactivity,

tremors, seizures, fast heart

rate and, in severe cases,

death. If your pet ingests

chocolate, contact your vet-

erinarian or poison control

immediately for treatment.

Also, knowing the type and

quantity of chocolate ingested

is helpful.

Another potential hazard

for pets on this ‘sweet’ holiday

is any ‘sugar-free’ gum or

candy. They commonly con-

tain the sugar substitute xyli-

tol. Signs of xylitol toxicity

can be seen as quickly as 30

minutes and causes a sudden

drop in the body’s blood sugar

(hypoglycemia). This may

result in weakness, depression,

loss of coordination, seizures,

coma and even liver

failure. Treatment should be

initiated immediately if inges-

tion occurs.

Some holiday flowers,

though they are romantic, can

be toxic for your pet. The

biggest culprits are lilies.

They are highly toxic to cats

so make sure your cats can’t

get near them or choose a dif-

ferent variety of flower but

not tulips (the bulbs are the

most toxic), amaryllis,

daisies, chrysanthe-

mums or any flowers

with thorns may be

potentially dangerous

flowers.

Leftover gift-

wrapping or decora-

tions are enticing for

curious cats. Make sure all

ribbons, bows and other wrap-

ping are out of your pets’ reach

and cleaned up. Cats espe-

cially like chewing on strings

or ribbons which can cause

choking or worse an obstruc-

tion in the intestines that

could require emergency sur-

gery.

Candles are also a nice

touch on Valentine’s Day but

not to paws and fur. Don’t

leave candles unattended as

pets can easily be burned or

the candles could be knocked

over causing a fire.

One last warning is pets

given as gifts. Puppies and

kittens are very cute and cud-

dly but owning a pet is a big

undertaking. Purchasing a pet

should be done in a responsi-

ble way and only after a lot of

research. If you’re ready, you

should consider adopting a pet

from your local shelter. These

steps can be done together

and are romantic and reward-

ing.

Have a sweet and safe

Mediators have been

around for a long

time, but recently

they have increasingly taken

up the burden of dispute reso-

lution, in nearly every sector

of the law. It use to be that if

you wanted to get a divorce,

you hired a lawyer, and settled

the complaint in the court-

room. After many long drawn

out adversarial meetings,

which cost lots of time and

money, the disputing parties

usually came to a conclusion

on the steps of the courthouse

on the day of the hearing.

A mediator is a neutral

third party observer who does

not take sides, but tries to help

both parties come to an agree-

ment before they call in the

lawyers – thus avoiding the

courts, the emotional fallout,

and especially the legal fees.

Mediators are a diverse

set of individuals they may be

teachers, psychotherapists,

businessmen, retired judges

and yes even lawyers. They

all bring their expertise to the

negotiation table. The cost of

mediation services vary from

mediator to mediator, but if

you talked to a person who

went through a mediated

divorce, they will tell you that

it is cheaper and quicker than

going through legal proceed-

ings.

All adversarial proceed-

ings have negative outcomes.

They create stress; they leave

one or both parties feeling

bruised or battered. If there

are children involved, they

create difficult situations

that affect the children in a

negative way both at home

or in school, and in the end,

if things cannot be worked

out, the couple end up in

court. There's a wide recog-

nition among lawyers that

the old approach has failed

systematically. Mediation is a

different way of solving dif-

ferences the parties talk,

engage in alternative possi-

bilities and listen to one

another.

Mediation can be very

useful, but it's not always the

answer. There are some cases

that have to go to court

because they can never be

resolved through mediation

when there are genuinely dif-

ficult legal or ethical matters

to be decided.

Mediation prevents the

breakdowns in trust or com-

munication for whatever rea-

son and the mediator helps

people to identify what might

not work at an early stage in

the process, this helps the

couple find some kind of res-

olution without letting things

escalate much higher.

The whole point about

mediation is that it is volun-

tary, so it's about putting the

power back into the hands of

the parties.

Gerard Scola is a labor

arbitrator, (more like a judge)

and a divorce mediator (a

neutral person who has the

interest of both parties). He

became a mediator in 1997

after going through a litigated

divorce. He felt that there

had to be a better way for two

people to leave a failed mar-

riage without all the stress,

anxiety and expense that is

created going through a liti-

gated divorce. He does spe-

cial civil court mediation for

Passaic County Court, fore-

closure mediation for

Hudson, Passaic, Sussex and

Bergen Counties. His family

mediation offices are in

Wayne and Verona.

Space is often at a pre-

mium when transport-

ing children in a car.

Safety seats tend to be cum-

bersome and take up a lot of

the seat room in a vehicle. In

most areas, law mandates

some sort of safety seat is

necessary until a child is 8 or

9 years old and meets a cer-

tain weight maximum. That

can mean many years of

squeezing the kids into the

car, or missing out on carpool

opportunities due to safety

seats. But a new category of

inflatable safety seats could

change the way many drivers

view car and booster seats.

Products like Go

Booster(R) and BubbleBum(R)

were the invention of inno-

vators in Europe who have

now brought their creations

to North America. There are

also many other brands still

being produced in Europe,

including the Luftikid(R).

Inflatable booster seats are

lightweight and durable.

They often weigh less than 2

pounds. Plus, they inflate and

deflate quickly, making these

seats the ultimate in portable

options.

There’s no need to

worry about safety, either. In

ordered to be sold in the

United States and Canada,

any type of child safety seat

must be rigorously crash test-

ed to comply with strict vehi-

cle safety standards. With a

smaller profile, these seats

can also save room in a vehi-

cle, preventing the need to

upsize to a larger truck or

van.

Premature babies or pre-

emies come into the

world when a pregnan-

cy lasts fewer than 37 weeks.

Full term babies are born

between 38 to 42 weeks.

Because of their early arrival,

premature infants have differ-

ent needs than that of a full

term infant.

Premature babies may

begin their lives in the neona-

tal intensive care unit

(NICU) or the special care

nursery. The NICU is

designed to provide an atmos-

phere that limits stress, meets

the basic needs of warmth,

nutrition and protection to

assure proper growth and

development. After the child

leaves the NICU, careful

attention should be paid to

the development of the nerv-

ous system. In the early

months of life all of the senso-

ry systems impose incredible

degrees of sensory stimulation

on the baby. The sensory sys-

tems includes the visual, tac-

tile (touch), auditory (hear-

ing), olfactory (smell), propri-

oceptive and kinesthetic

(body awareness).

The baby must learn how

to regulate all of the incoming

sensory information in order

to be at an optimal state to

learn new skills. This regula-

tion is more difficult for a pre-

mature baby. A pediatric

physical therapist can assess

the premature baby’s ability to

regulate the incoming sensory

stimuli and teach the parents

how to recognize when the

baby is stressed or not alert.

The therapist can also deter-

mine the cause of the stress

and thereby decrease and pre-

vent it. When the baby is

stressed there can be changes

in the baby’s breathing, heart

function, skin color and diges-

tion. Some indications of

stress are:

•Hiccupping.

•Changes in skin color (mot-

tling or cyanosis (bluish color

from lack of oxygen)

•Temperature change.

•Tremors or startles.

•Spitting up or bowel move-

ments.

•Changes in muscle tone ie:

very flaccid or floppy (hypo-

tonic) or stiff (hypertonic).

•Crying and fussiness are

common with difficulty con-

soling.

The baby’s state whether

it is stressed or calm, plays a

vital role in the baby’s motor

development. As the baby

receives input from the senso-

ry systems listed above, it is

then integrated with the

motor system and enables the

baby to adjust his head, body

and limbs in space in relation

to each other and gravity.

When the baby is in an organ-

ized or non stressed state the

motor system functions easily

with smooth movements and

postures. When the baby is

calm he can then attend to

and interact with his environ-

ment and learn new skills.

A premature baby that

has an impaired sensory sys-

tem may often demonstrate

signs of stress. This impair-

ment can cause the premature

baby to utilize poor movement

patterns early in development

that can lead to major motor

related problems later in life.

Babies with movement

impairments do not practice a

variety of movements and are

usually only able to maintain

If you worry about mold in

your home and are trying to

find solutions, you can take

one simple step to help prevent

it from happening.

Mold is commonly found

in houses that have poor wall

insulation. As moisture builds

up, the interior of the walls can

slowly rot. This gives off a foul

smell and reduces the overall

stability and quality of a proper-

ty. You may need to completely

strip your walls to effectively

repair them.

Such a repair can be

expensive, but in order to pre-

vent this situation from occur-

ring, you can choose an alter-

nate kind of insulation for your

home. Spray foam insulation,

like Icynene, is a good choice,

especially for preventing mold.

Unlike other insulation, spray

foam protects your walls against

moisture by forming an air bar-

rier.

Prevention of mold, dust,

dust mites and other common

airborne irritants will improve

the quality of the air in your

home and ultimately the

investment value of your

house.

Statistics from the U.S.

Census Bureau

Housing Survey indi-

cate that homeowners annu-

ally spend billions of dollars

improving outdoor living

areas.

One of the most popular

ways to do just that is to add

a deck to a home. Decks are

beneficial in many ways.

Grill masters love decks

because they make the per-

fect place to set up a grill and

a table and cook for family

and friends. Those who sim-

ply love being outdoors find

decks the perfect place to

relax and soak up some sun

or idle away the evening

hours.

But homeowners who

want to build a deck should

know a few things before that

process begins.

•Permits are necessary.

Unless the deck is going to

be especially small, you willlikely need a permit to build

it. Before buying any materi-

als or consulting any contrac-

tors, make certain you know

which permits you need and

how to get them. If the prop-

er permits are not secured

before the project begins, you

might have to tear down the

whole project and start all

over again.

•Decks don’t have to go on

the back of the house. If the

back of your house sits in the

blazing sun all day, then it’s

probably best to build the

deck elsewhere, and that’s

perfectly alright. So long as

the property and permits

allow, decks can be built on

the side of a home as well,

and putting a deck on the

side might be more comfort-

able.

•Decks don’t have to be

made of wood. It’s easy to

assume all decks are made of

plain wood. However, decks

can be made out of a wide

variety of materials, natural

or synthetic. Pressure treated

wood is perhaps the most

•In case you haven’t noticed,

there haven’t been too many

white objects falling from the

sky lately. No, I am not talking

about snow! The white objects

to which I refer are golf balls.

Yes, it is that time again…time

popular material for decking

because it’s not very expen-

sive. But manmade materials

that are a mixture of recycled

plastic and wood bits or saw-

dust are also popular because

they require no maintenance.

But homeowners should

know that manmade materi-

als can get hot in the sun,

which will require thoseenjoying the deck to wear

shoes.

•Expect to do some digging.

If you’re going to build your

own deck, expect to do some

serious digging. Local build-

ing codes will dictate how

deep you will need to dig for

the pier footings, which sup-

port the deck’s weight. Just

how deep you’ll dig depends

on your climate’s specificfrost line, but it’s safe to

assume you’ll get a workout

in when digging.

•The deck can have multiple

levels. Though many people

associate decks with one

level, it’s possible to have a

multi-level deck if you simply

don’t have enough room to

build a deck that will be big

enough to meet all of your

needs. A multi-level deck

can break up those long

flights of stairs while ensur-

ing you will always have

somewhere to go to escape

the sun on a hot day.

•You will want to protect the

deck. Decks are a costlyinvestment, and you will

want to protect that invest-

ment. If you’re building a

wood deck, keep in mind the

sun will beat down on the

deck for most of the year. You

can protect the deck by

painting it. Paint provides

sunscreen for the deck, stop-

ping the sun from breaking

down the material. Once

you’ve finished painting,apply sealant, whether it’s

oil- or water-based.

•Don’t forget fasteners.

Fasteners will hide the screws

for aesthetic appeal. But not

all woods and fasteners are

the right fit, as certain woods

are only compatible with cer-

tain fasteners. Find out

which fasteners make the

right fit ahead of time.

Because fasteners conceal the

screws, they also make it pos-

sible to go barefoot on the

deck.

A deck makes a great

addition to many homes, but

homeowners should learn as

much as possible about decksand what goes into building

them before making any

decking decisions.

Valentine’s Day

is synonymous

with candle-

light dinners, romantic

movies and delicious

desserts. Although

chocolate is often stan-

dard fare for the day of

love, many other treats, including petit fours,

can win the heart of a

special person.

Although people

often believe the term

petit four refers to a

particular recipe for a

dessert, it actually

denotes a variety of small

desserts. Petit fours are bite-

sized pastries generally eaten

at the end of a meal or at teatime. The name is comprised

of French terms meaning

“small oven,” which general-

ly means the desserts are

cooked at a low temperature

in an oven. Petit fours maybe “secs,” meaning “dry”

desserts, including biscuits

and puff pastries. Most

are “glaces,” or “iced”

desserts, such as tiny

cakes. These are often

the desserts people

associate with the

name “petit fours.”

Cake-type petit fours

are traditionally madefrom an almond fla-

vored sponge cake or

an almond genoise.

Other types of cake,

such as pound cake,

can be used, but the

consistency must be

firm enough to handle

cutting and filling. The

options in fillings and coat-

ings is as endless as the imag-

ination. Some prefer to coatthem in fondant, a sugary

dough that hardens upon

standing and produces a firm,

flat surface for decorating.

Others like their petit fours

covered in chocolate or

another candy material.

These desserts are avail-

able from many bakeries and

retailers. For those who want

to treat a Valentine to home-

made petit fours, one trick isto bake the batter in mini

loaf pans and then cut in

half, or use small cupcake

tins to achieve the desired,

bite-sized shape. Or bake the

batter in a sheet pan and

then use cookie cutters to

make small shapes. Jams,

fruit preserves, frosting,

icing, almond paste, and any

other fillings can be used in

between the layers.Fondant can be pur-

chased from party and craft

stores or specially ordered

from cake decorating retail-

ers. An easy fondant can be

made from a confectioners’

sugar and marshmallow

recipe.

After a romantic meal,

serve petit fours with a

dessert liqueur for the perfect

Valentine’s Day dessert.

All too many home-

owners have experi-

enced the joy of

completing a home improve-

ment project only to learn

upon completion that the

project is not in adherence

with local laws. That realiza-

tion, while heartbreaking, is

often the result of a home-

owner’s failure to secure a

building permit prior to start-

ing the project. Homeowners

who secure a permit before

the onset of a project will

know what they can and can’t

do and can rest easy knowing

that an approved plan com-

plies with engineering princi-

ples and local laws.

Another disadvantage to

forgoing the permit process is

the potential perils such a

decision causes when home-

owners want to sell their

homes. Projects completed

without a permit might hurt a

home’s resale value, and such

projects are not often covered

by homeowner’s insurance

policies, meaning damage to

areas of the home where an

illegal project was conducted

won’t be covered. While

homeowners should always

T

here is truly something

magical about golf.

Between the relaxed

environment, the scenery, andthe camaraderie that inevitably

surfaces during every good

game, you might say it couldn’t

possibly get better than this.

Well it certainly can. Imagine

golfing the British Isles. From

the birthplace of golf in

Scotland to the sprawling

emerald hills of Ireland, these

islands are truly the hallowed

grounds of the sport. To experi-

ence play here is to truly under-stand the beauty of golf.

Admittedly, for us American

golfers, it isn’t always easy to

get to the other side of the

pond. There are flights to con-

sider, accommodation in a for-

eign country, and how on earth

do you book a tee time at some

of these world class golf resorts?

Well, it’s easier than you think.

G3K – a Scottish-based Travel

and Consulting company – isyour solution for putting

together any golf trip across the

water. You have the desire to

take the corporate or individual

golf trip of a lifetime, and

they’ve got the extensive

knowledge, experience, cus-

tomer care, and attention to

detail to make it happen foryou! Through a simple step-by-

step process, G3K will set up

your completely personalized

trip to Scotland, England,

and/or Ireland. Here’s how it

works.

STEP 1: You provide G3K

with your details and personal

requirements, starting with

choosing the dates of your golf

trip. G3K’s most classic trips

leave on a Friday night fromthe United States and arrive in

Scotland or Ireland early the

next morning. You may then

specify the countries you’d like

to visit (from Scotland,

England, and Ireland). More

specifically, you may request

certain courses you’d like to

play on (Royal Troon, St.

Andrew’s Old, etc.). And final-

ly, you state your personal pref-

erences for the trip includingground transportation, golf cart

rentals, sightseeing opportuni-

ties, and anything else specifi-

cally you desire for your trip.

STEP 2: G3K sorts through

your details in order to come up

with a golf trip that most accu-

rately suits your needs. The

company is headed by PGAProfessional of 29 years,

Stewart Smith, and has a staff

with over 100 years combined

experience in marketing and

hospitality. They have an intri-

cate knowledge of the best

courses to play, the most luxuri-

ous hotels, and the most excit-

ing sightseeing opportunities.

STEP 3: Once you’ve appr-

oved your itinerary and quoted

price, the G3K team will takecare of ALL of your bookings.

From your departure from the

United States all the way to

your return home, no detail is

left to chance by G3K. They

know what they are doing and

want to use their extensive

knowledge to help you plan

your golf trip.

It’s as simple as that. Let

G3K help you plan the golf trip

of a lifetime to the very birth-place of the sport! For more

information or to begin the 3-

Step Booking Process, contact

between positions. Because they are

not using a variety of movement pat-

terns they have difficulty activating

and elongating all of their muscles.

The baby may never develop full

motion at all of his joints making him

vulnerable to musculoskeletal defor-mities.

The goal of the pediatric physi-

cal therapist is to guide the premature

baby through a variety of goal direct-

ed movements to help the baby learn

new movements. This guidance will

help increase the baby’s muscle flexi-

bility and prevent or minimize the

development of musculoskeletal

deformities.

Gena Livingston is a pediatric physicaltherapist, who brings over five years of

experience to Kids’ Therapy Center™

of Riverdale. Specializing in early child-

hood intervention, Gena is very experi-

enced treating children with cerebral

 palsy, delayed motor development,

autism, torticollis, post-surgical

corrections, and athletic injuries.

If you would like to schedule an ap-

 pointment or consult with Gena,

she can be reached at

Kids’ TherapyCenter™, 18 Newark

Pompton Turnpike, Riverdale,
