    Being sedentary can even

    be more dangerous than

smoking. It can lead to ill-

    ness, obesity and certain cancers.

    Physical fitness is imperative to

hinder and decrease the risks of

several diseases, as well as to helpimprove overall physical and

    emotional health. It helps you

    feel better about yourself, reduces

    depression and anxiety, improves

    sleep, increases muscle and bone

    strength, promotes better balance

    and helps to reduce falls.

    The most important aspect

of physical fitness is making sure

    you find something that you

enjoy and have fun partaking in

so that you can stay focused andmotivated. Some people enjoy

    walking or running, or swimming

    and water exercise classes. Those

who enjoy dancing can take class-

es such as Zumba or line dancing.

Some like a more meditative and

    less aerobic approach and would

    benefit from getting

    involved in a Pilates

    or yoga program.

    Others prefer high-

    impact cardio class-

    es, such as kickbox-

    ing, step aerobicsand spinning. When

    it comes to physical

    fitness, the possibili-

    ties are endless.

    Anything that gets

    your body moving

    and your blood

    pumping can make a

    huge impact on your

    overall health and

    wellness.

Why not cre-ate a new you this

    new year? Start mov-

    ing! Just 30 minutes

three or four times a week can

make a huge difference in your

    overall health. Whether you start

a walking program, join a gym or

even opt to work with a personal

trainer to help gain some motiva-

tion and start working on your fit-

ness goals, you will be making a

big step on your path to betterhealth and wellness.

    Testosterone is the

male hormone that isresponsible for devel-

    oping the testes during puber-

    ty. It contributes to male

    attributes such as facial hair

    and a deepened voice, while

    affecting a mans libido and

    even his mood.

    Symptoms of Low-

    Testosterone (Low-T)

After the age of 30, a

mans testosterone levels nat-urally begin to decrease. This

    regression is usually gradual

and spread out over the rest of

his life. In some cases though,

    the levels drop rapidly, which

leads to a host of symptoms.

    Some of these may include:

    -Diminished sexual desire

    -Clinical depression

    -Less energy

-Loss of bone density which willappear as a loss of height

    -Decreased strength due to

    depleted muscle mass

    -Weaker erections

    -Obesity, type 2 diabetes, or

    problems with your thyroid

    -Less semen during ejaculation

    -Testicle shrinkage or numbness

    in the testicles

    -Erectile dysfunction

    Causes of Low Testosterone(Low-T)

    Among the known caus-

    es of low testosterone, med-

    ical experts have defined

    three main factors. They

    believe the condition origi-

    nates either in the testes,

    pituitary gland, or the hypo-

    thalamus of the brain.

    Low testosterone in relation

to the testes can occur due toa number of reasons:

    -Undescended testicles

    -Injury to the testicles

    -Cancer therapy in response to

    testicular cancer-Aging

    -Contracting the mumps in

    puberty or adulthood because

    which leads to an inflammation

    of the testes

    -Genetic conditions such as a

    chromosome abnormality

    When low testosterone is a

result of a condition in the

    pituitary gland or hypothala-

mus, doctors may seek outone of the following:

    -Damage to the pituitary gland

    caused by a tumor

    -A malformed hypothalamus

-A decrease in blood flow to the

    pituitary gland or hypotha lamus

-The existence of the HIV or

    AIDS virus because either one

    may inflame the pituitary gland

    or hypothalamus

    used anabolic steroids or have

    Iwrite my column today

    from Sunny Singer Island,

    Riviera Beach, Florida. Im

on vacation for a week with my

wife, Terry. It is one of our only

    weeks away by ourselves since

    our daughters birth 25 years

    ago. Four years ago, Terry

    toured Ireland with my daugh-

ter while my three boys and I

went on a man-cation to theDominican Republic. In fact,

for as far back as I can remem-

ber, all of our vacation time

    included our kids! Not that

thats a bad thing quite the

    contrary. But I still cant

believe that it has been 25

years since weve had a honey-

    moon week away. Its definitely

long overdue. So, here we are,

    swimming in 75-degree weath-

er, missing the kids and wishing

they were here with us!Every time I visit Florida,

    the place my maternal grandfa-

    ther migrated to upon retire-

    ment, I have contemplated the

    same thing: retirement in

Florida. Do I really want toescape the snowy winters full-

    time? Whenever Papa Jack

would come back to our area

for a visit, he would complain

    There is a considerable

    financial incentive for

    businesses to want to

    classify workers as independent

contractors rather than asemployees. For employees, a

business is required to pay pay-

    roll taxes and other employee

benefits such as paid time off

    and pension contributions.

None of these is required with

    independent contractors.

    Depending on the type of

business you are in, some busi-

    ness functions lend themselves

    to being done by contractors

while other functions simplyare not. The facts and circum-

stances of each case will decide

    the proper treatment. It is

important to get it right toavoid the prospect of an IRS

    audit tapping you for back

    payroll taxes, penalties and

    interest.

So how does one go about

    getting it right? The determina-

tion is made by reviewing the

evidence as to the degree of

control of the business over the

    worker and the job function.

    Does the company have the

right to control how and whenthe worker does his job? How is

the worker paid by the hour

or by the job? Who provides

the tools and supplies for the

job? Is there a written contract

    between the parties spelling out

    rights and responsibilities of

each? Is the job for your compa-

ny ongoing or does the worker

    perform services for other cus-

    tomers? These and other factors

will help make the proper clas-sification for your workers.

    If your facts and circum-

stances do not leave you with a

clear indication as to whetheror not you have an independ-

ent contractor, give us a call

    and well review your worker

    classifications with you.

    Independent contractor or

    employee? The distinction matters

    Scientists in England,

    led by professor Paul

    Sharpe, an expert in

    craniofacial (head and

    brain) development and cell

    biology at Kings College in

London, have developed anew method of replacing

    missing teeth with bioengi-

    neered material

    from a persons

    own gum cells.

    In his

    work, professor

    Sharpe and his

    researchers isolat-

    ed adult human

    gum tissue, grew

    more of it in his

    lab, and then com-

bined it with theembryonic cells of

    mice that form

    teeth (mesenchy-

    mal cells). By

    transplanting this

    combination of cells into

mice, they were able to grow

    hybrid human/mouse teeth

    containing all the elements

    of natural tooth enamel,

    dentin and roots.

These easily accessiblegum cells are thus a real-

    istic source for consideration

    in human bio tooth forma-

    tion, said professor Sharpe.

    The next major challenge is

to identify a way to culture

    adult human mesenchymal

    cells to cause tooth forma-

    tion.

Someday, our own gumcells could be used to replace

    missing, broken or infected

    teeth in humans.

    As a family caregiver,

    you may find your-

    self facing a host of

    new responsibilities, many of

    which are unfamiliar or

    intimidating. You may be

taking care of an aging par-

    ent or a handicapped spouse.

Or perhaps youre caring for a

child with a physical or men-

tal illness. And at times, you

    may feel overwhelmed and

    alone. But regardless of your

    particular circumstances,

    youre facing a challenging

    new role. The following tips

can help you get the support

    you need while caring for

    someone you love.

    1.Accept your feelings.

    Caregiving can trigger a host

    of difficult emotions, includ-

    ing anger, fear, resentment,

    guilt, helplessness and grief.

Its important to acknowl-edge and accept what youre

    feeling, both good and bad.

    Dont beat yourself up over

    your doubts and misgivings

    these feelings simply

    mean youre human.

2.Ask for help. Even if youre

    the primary family caregiver,

    you cant do everything on

    your own. Youll need help

    from friends, siblings and

    other family members, as well

    as health professionals. If you

    dont get the support you

    need, youll quickly burn out

    compromising your ability

    to provide care.

    3.Make time for yourself. While

youre caring for your loved one,

    dont forget about your own

needs. Take time to relax daily

and learn how to regulate your

stress when you start to feel

    overwhelmed. Its also impor-

tant to stay social. Make it a pri-

ority to visit regularly withfriends and family. Dont let

    yourself become isolated.

    4.Care for your body.

    Exercise regularly. Try to get

in at least 30 minutes of exer-

    cise three times per week

since exercise is one of the

best ways to relieve stress and

boost your energy. It is also

imperative to go to all of your

    regular doctors checkups.

    Remember to eat healthily

and get enough rest.5.Talk with others. Even

    Exercise. Lose the weight.

    Answer every incoming

    email.

    Those are the hard

    kinds of New Years resolu-

    tions, because you have to

    think about them every day

for the rest of the year. Many

    are forgotten long before

    Valentines Day.

    But heres one important

    resolution, one you can fulfill

today and easily keep all year:

    protect your identity.

    Identity theft is a fast-

    growing crime, but there are

ways to reduce your chances of

    being a victim. The identity

    theft protection experts at

    LifeLock recommend doing

    these five quick things today

    to help keep your identity

    safer all year long:

    Use safe passwords

    Are you among the people

    who use simple passwords like

    123456 or qwerty or

    abc123 to protect your per-

    sonal information? Or even the

    word password itself? Many

    people do, so identity thieves

can often break in just by trying

    the most popular passwords.

    To create a safer password,

avoid using words that are in

    the dictionary. And stay away

    from your own personal infor-

    mation, like a nickname, pets

    name or birthdate. One option

is to come up with a memorable

    phrase that includes numbers

and symbols, and use the first

letter of each word. My Tigers

    are Number One in Football!

    might become MTaN1iF! - a

    good example because it uses

    capital letters, lower-case let-

ters, a number and a symbol.

    Use multiple passwords

    Stop using the same pass-

    word for every account. Several

    big companies and websites

    have recently had their users

    personal information stolen by

    hackers. If your password for

    one site is compromised, and

you use the same password for

    your bank and credit accounts,

its much easier for a thief to get

    into all of them.

    At least have a different

    password for each account that

    has personal or financial infor-

    mation. And consider using a

    password-management pro-

gram, which lets you set more

    cryptic passwords for each site

you visit and control them with

    one master password.

    Stash that Social Security card

    Do you carry your Social

Security card in your purse or

    wallet? Dont.

    After a long season of

    use, fireplaces need

    to be cleaned. Many

homeowners think this is a job

that can be put off until the

fall, but spring is an ideal sea-

son to have the chimney and

    flue cleaned and inspected.

    One reason to include scrub-

bing the chimney as part of

spring cleaning is to cut down

on odor. After using a fire-

    place, a buildup of creosote

forms in the chimney. As the

    weather gets warmer, creosote

deposits can start to smell sour

and that odor will seep into

    the home. In addition, mois-

ture can mix with the creosote

and start to degrade the flue

    liner, necessitating costly

    repairs. The sooner a chimney

and flue are cleaned the bet-

ter. A chimney sweep can do a

    thorough job of scrubbing

    down the chimney and fire-

    place and ensuring that every-

thing will be in working order

    come next season.

    when you understand why

youre feeling the way you do,

it can still be upsetting. In

order to deal with your feel-

    ings, its important to talk

    about them. Dont keep your

    emotions bottled up; find at

least one person you trust to

    confide in.

    I

ts the time of year when

    people make resolutions to

    be a better and healthier

version of them. So why not

    make resolutions that will

    mutually benefit you and your

pet? Here are some ideas to

help you and yours have the

    best year yet.

    Eat more fresh food.

    This may seem like an

    easy resolution.

    However, it takes time

    and preparation. For

    humans, this means

    incorporating more

    fruits and veggies into

    your diet while for pets

    this means ensuring

    that their pet food uses

    ingredients such as

    fresh turkey, salmon

    and duck, fresh omega

3 and 6 oils (from coconuts

    and canola), wholesome

    berries and fruits and vegeta-

    bles like peas, spinach and

    carrots. Now Fresh premium

pet food by Petcurean is a

    great example. You can

    learn more about choosing a

    pet food with the freshest,

    healthiest ingredients at

    petcurean.com.

    Get more exercise. Did you

    know pets can decrease our

    blood pressure and cholesterol

    levels and increase our oppor-

    tunities for exercise, outdoor

    activities and socialization?

    Exercising together will not

    only help optimize your health

but also allow you to spend

    more time together.

    Use that agenda. This does-

nt seem like a resolution, but

    sometimes making a plan is

    the only way resolutions will

come to life. Most of us sched-

    ule time for other appoint-

    ments and meetings, so why

    not set aside some priority

    time for pets too.

    Areview published in a

    2010 issue of the

    medical journal Pedi-

    atrics found that children ben-

    efited from weight training. In

    the review, researchers from

    the Institute of Training

    Science and Sports Informatics

    in Cologne, Germany, ana-

    lyzed studies that focused on

    children and weightlifting.

    The review looked at studies

going as far back as 60 years,

    finding that children and ado-

    lescents who lifted weights

    grew stronger. Those who par-

    ticipated in strength training

    twice per week gained more

    strength than those who par-

    ticipated just once per week.

    These findings contradict a

    longstanding belief that chil-

    dren do not actually get

    stronger. But while children

    and adolescents may be getting

    stronger, researchers found that

they do not add as much bulk

    or obvious muscle mass as

    adults. Instead, researchers feel

    the strength changes in chil-

    dren and adolescents stem

    more from neurological

    changes that make their nerv-

    ous systems and muscles inter-

    act more efficiently. Though

    parentshave long worried that

    strength training will stunt

    their children's growth,

    researchers now feel that prop-

    erly supervised strength train-

ing will not stunt growth or

    lead to growth-plate injuries

    and will perhaps even reduce

their risk of injury as opposed

    to increasing that risk.

    As the owner of

    Xquisite Salon & Spa

    in Butler, Kelly

Napolitano is used to sales rep-

    resentatives asking her to sell

their latest products. But aftertrying a new product called

    NeriumAD for just two weeks,

    Napolitano knew this was one

    product special enough to tell

    all her clients about.

    Since using the product,

my skin is glowing and my

    wrinkles have been signifi-

    cantly reduced, she said.

    And several people have

    commented on how wonderful

    my skin looks.Napolitano, who contin-

    ues to personally use

    NeriumAD every day, is proud

    to offer the products through

her salon so that others can

    experience the same amazing

    results for themselves. On

    January 18 at 11am, Xquisite

Salon & Spa will host an

    event for anyone interested in

    learning more about

    NeriumAD.Recently featured on

CBS News, The View, and in

    Beautiful You and Simply the

    Best magazines, NeriumAD is

    making headlines as an anti-

    aging product helping men

    and women around the world

    combat wrinkles and other

    signs of aging.

Lots of things can causewrinkles. Skin naturally loses

its elasticity and ability to pro-

duce oil over time. Fat in the

    deeper layers of skin diminish-

es and makes your skin lose its

    plumpness. Tanning beds and

    natural sunlight increase expo-

sure to UV rays, which break

    down collagen and elastin, the

    connective skin tissues that

    provide flexibility and

strength. Smoking and poordiet can also speed the signs of

    aging. Squinting, frowning

    and even smiling can form

    grooves beneath the skins sur-

    face that become permanent

    wrinkles.

    Whether you are young

    or old, NeriumAD helps to

    counter the natural effects of

    skin aging and restore your

skins natural glow in just 30

days. Of course, it also helps toreduce your exposure to UV

    rays, stop smoking and eat

    more healthily.

    Sometimes results are

    noticeable within just a few

    days. Tammy DeMarco

    DAngelo, an Xquisite Salon

    & Spa client, tried NeriumAD

    after Napolitano recommend-

ed it to her.Im completely in love,

she said. My brow lines are

gone. My pores are small. And

my skin is smooth and soft.

    The most important

    ingredient in NeriumAD is

    the extract from the nerium

    oleander plant, which is paired

with other ingredients likealoe to diminish fine lines and

    wrinkles. Third-party clinical

    trials, in-house research and

    countless enthusiastic customer

    reviews around the country

    have proven NeriumADs

    effectiveness.

    The company behind the

product, Nerium International, has over 12 years of scientific

    experience commercially grow-

    ing the nerium oleander plant.

    During this time, Nerium has

    perfected the scientific

    research and the development

    of new technology, natural

    farming methods, biomass pro-

    cessing, product formulation,manufacturing and product

    safety testing. The company

on the first side and 2 minutes

on the flip side. Place cut side

of buns on the grill to toast,

    right after flipping the burgers.

    Remove patties and buns from

    grill.Recipe notes:

    If fresh dill isnt available

    (dill season peaks in summer

    and early fall), substitute flat-

    leaf parsley.

    You can make your own

    cocktail sauce with 1 table-

spoon of natural ketchup, 1teaspoon of horseradish, and

    1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice.

If you dont feel like grilling,

saute the patties in 2 tea-spoons of olive oil in a large

    frying pan over medium heat.

    24/28

    After flat lining during

    the economic down-turn that began

    around 2008, housing markets

    in many regions of the

    United States and Canada

    have shown signs of recovery.

Those in the market to buy

and sell may find this year

    presents an ideal opportunity

    to do just that.

    According to the real

estate listing Web site Zillow, home values rose 5.1 percent

    across the United States

    between February 2012 and

    February 2013. The latest

    forecasts from Canada

    Mortage and Housing

    Corporation indicate a strong

    housing demand into 2014, at

    which time a strengthened

    economy will energize both

    resale and new housing mar-kets.

    Buyers will need to be

    prepared to purchase inven-

    tory right away, while sellers

will need to price their homes

right for the best chance of

    sale. The following are some

    guidelines.

    Buyers

    Having a plan is essen-

tial when buying a home; assuch a purchase is not some-

    thing buyers should take

    lightly. Establishing a budget

is the first step. This means

    taking inventory of savings,

    expenses and borrowing

power. It is advisable to sit

down with a lender and do a

    run-through of what you can

    afford. By providing key

    financial information, in-cluding earning statements,

    existing debt and credit his-

    tory, buyers can quickly learn

    how much theyre qualified

    to borrow and how much

    they are comfortable borrow-

ing. This helps buyers zero in

    on homes in their price

    range.

    Being preapproved for a

mortgage is advantageouswhen it comes time to make

    offers on properties. It shows

    sellers that buyers are serious

and that they have been vet-

    ted by the bank.

    Many buyers conduct a

lot of research online prior to

    stepping into a home. This

    research lasts an average of

six to eight weeks, accordingto the National Association

    of Realtors. Homework

    includes investigating neigh-

    borhoods and school systems,

    comparing the going rates of

homes in the area, as well as

    figuring out which features

    are desired in a home.

    It also is important to

    hire a buyers agent. Such

    professionals send buyers list-

ings that fit their home-search parameters, which

saves buyers a lot of time and

    effort. Some agents preview

    homes for their buyers, even

going so far as to identify

    overpriced listings that can

be avoided or finding sellerswho are willing to negotiate.

A buyers agent works for the

    buyer, meaning there will be

    no conflict of interest.

    Agents assist buyers in the

    negotiating process, using

    their knowledge of the real

    estate market to help buyers

    make realistic offers that are

    likely to be accepted while

    providing a wealth of infor-

mation about housing trends, area services and home

    improvement vendors.

    When sellers accept

    buyers offers, buyers must

    then arrange home inspec-

    tions. An inspection is often-

times included as a contractcontingency, and buyers have

a right to cancel contracts if

    inspections find that a home

    is unsatisfactory structurally.

    Sellers

    Sellers competing for

    business in a thriving hous-

ing market also have to do

their share of work. It is

unlikely sellers will be able to

list their homes for sale one

day and have dozens of offersthe next. Todays buyers are

    much more conservative, and

homes will have to be pre-

sented in the best light and

    listed at reasonable prices.

    Sellers can start the

process of selling their homesby researching recently sold

    homes in their neighbor-

    hoods, paying particular

    attention to final sales prices.

    This information may be

    available through tax

    records, and some real estate

    sites publish the data online.

    Sellers can then compare this

    information to what they

    still owe on their mortgages

if their homes are not paidoff, and this should give sell-

ers an idea of their potential

    profits.

    Sellers also can benefit

    from working with real estate

agents, as it can be quite dif-

ficult and stressful for home-owners to sell their homes on

    their own. Agents have

    access to multiple listing

    databases and industry con-

    tacts, information that is

    quite valuable when selling a

    home. Agent will do their

own assessments of a home to

    help sellers price the home

    accordingly based on market

    conditions. In addition, real

estate agents can inform sell-ers about which, if any,

    repairs or changes may need

to be made to make a home

    more attractive to prospec-

    tive buyers. Real estate

    agents also help sellers

through the negotiatingprocess, finding a balance

    between what the buyer

wants to pay and how much

the seller wants for the home.

    Housing markets are

    once again looking up. As

    the new year arrives, many

people may find now is the

    time find their next homes.

    Understanding the process

    and getting guidance from

real estate professionalsmakes the process of buying

    and selling a home that

    much easier.
