SECUNDA - A man was critically injured on Thursday, 6 July when his car crashed into a bus on the R546 road between Evander and Kinross.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found a wrecked car on the side of the road.

The bus was parked a short distance away.Upon closer inspection, paramedics

discovered a man lying outside the car. He sustained numerous injuries.Paramedics provided him with advanced

life support and transported him to Highveld Mediclinic.

Nobody else was injured.Local authorities were also on the scene.

Man critical after road accident

A man was critically injured when his car crashed into a bus.

SECUNDA - The public has mixed feelings about the state of the roads in town.

Firstly, the residents of Broadbent Street were overjoyed that a big pothole that was threatening to spread across the whole right-hand side of the road, was nally repaired after more than a year.

Other residents, particularly those living in HM Swart Street, say Govan Mbeki Municipality is ignoring them.

Potholes and the lack of road maintenance still a problem

A large pothole in HM Swart Street has been growing steadily for more than a year.

SECUNDA - Mnr.

onbekend.Sy suster, me.

“Jy was verseker ’n goeie oom gewees. Die beste wat nooit vervang sal kan word nie.

“Ek weet die Here kom haal ook dié wat reg is, so ek weet jy is op ’n beter plek by Liewe Jesus.”

Mnr. Jean Pierre Visser is op 8 Julie dood.

Willemien Aukema “When this pothole began forming a year ago, it was small and would have been easy to x.

“Now, after the severe rain that we have had and with its proximity to the storm drain, it is a much bigger problem.”

His neighbour explained that she now advises guests who come to her house, to use a different route so as not to damage their vehicles.

Though the roads in Secunda are not nearly as bad as those in Bethal or

surrounding towns, the lack of infrastructure maintenance is a major cause for concern for most residents.

“For every pothole they x, there are 10 more that seem to be ignored, and the moment we have rain, the holes get bigger and bigger.”

Govan Mbeki Municiplaity was contacted for comment and assured the newspaper the matter would receive urgent attention.

The pothole in Broadbent Street was xed nearly two months ago.

BUYING GUIDE OF HAIR CLIPPERS

It’s always a good idea to have a good hair clipper in the home, whether to maintain your own style or to keep your whole family looking good.

Puppet Without StringsOne of the fi rst big decisions you have to make is whether the clipper should be wired or wireless. If you go for a wired version you’ll usually pay less and never have to worry about the battery wearing out.

The Set UpHair clippers usually come with a number of combs that clip over the cutting head. Each of these sets the blades a certain distance away from the scalp. Pay attention to how many combs you get, what the increments are, and the maximum and minimum ends of the length range.

The ExtrasHair clippers often come with some rather essential accessories. For example, a proper pair of hair shears for fi nishing touches or fi ne work. There may also be a comb included, which is another tool you’ll probably need while styling the cut. Other included items may be things like a barber’s cape, a carry case or pouch, and even a stand.

Keeping Up AppearancesYou should also check what maintenance products are required and whether they are included. Usually the blades require oiling and brushing, so make sure that the kit includes both.

Making the CutMost blades are self-sharpening, but make a note if the metal has been treated so as to be corrosion resistant. Many cheaper models will rust if you don’t oil them religiously, so its worth getting something stainless or coated to save the cost of replacing the head or even whole clipper.

Absolute PowerIf you go for a cordless clipper you’ll mainly see two kinds of built-in rechargeable batteries – NiMH and Li-Ion. NiMH or Nickel-metal hydride batteries take forever to recharge and don’t really have much of an advantage in terms of run length. They are, however, cheaper at the moment.

Size MattersChildren and people with very small heads may be easier to trim with a smaller model with a narrower head. Wide clipper heads may make it faster to do buzzcuts, but it makes it harder to do fi ne or precision work.

Maureen takes gospel music to new heightseMBALENHLE - Born and bred in eMba, Ms Maureen Mkhatswa’s future was always brighter than the world itself.

Raised by her parents and being the last born of seven children, her life was set for goodness and tender mercies.

Ms Mkhatswa is part of a twin and her brother’s name is Maureece.

She is a spirit- lled anointed gospel artist.

Her story is not the typical “I began singing in Sunday school” type of a story, however is a true testimony of a young woman used by God to reach out to the world with her voice.

Her singing career and calling began at a tender age while she was with The Alliance Church in South Africa.

She was later identi ed and recruited to join the Heavenly Trumpets Music Development Agency in 2010.

Since then she has never looked back and continued to grow musically and her voice matured.

Realising that God was serious about her singing career, she began to compose and write songs. Ms Mkhatswa was part of the Heavenly Trumpets Music Development Agency’s live DVD recording in 2011 under the leadership of Orapeleng Lessly Stock and Fani Baloyi.

She said balancing and managing her personal life, her husband, children, music and work is not a walk in the park.

“The support of my families keep me going.

Sifi so Mathebula “I love what I am doing and I strongly believe I was born for this.

“It is not always easy, but with God all things are possible.”

Ms Mkhatswa works at Sasol Mining as a surveyor assistant.

She recently hosted the Dine with Maureen concert that was a great success and a highlight in her career.

It was held at her local church, House of Praise Tabernacle, under the leadership of Past Mahlangu in

White City Section. This event gained her the hearts of many

fans who were lifting their hands in worship as she was ministering in song.

“I am humbled by all the people who came that night, it was beyond my expectation but God surprised me.

“I would not say it was a concert, because I am not an entertainer but a worshipper.

“May God bless everybody who supported me.”

Ms Maureen Mkhatswa performs at the Dine with Maureen concert held recently.

Me.

Me.

eMBALENHLE - Ms Forgiveness Mokalapa (21) loves to promote education and helping the youth to choose their careers.

She is a media student at the Boston College and a director of Forgy Mokalapa Events of Honor.

Ms Mokalapa hosts various educational events and career awareness campaigns in the area.

She recently hosted the Ligotshwa Lisemanzi Career Awareness Event at the Sasol eMbalenhle Club.

The event was attended by more than 100 Grade 9 learners and 19 from various local schools.

Ms Mokalapa said the event was aimed at exposing learners to the various careers that are available and giving them information about where they can study and apply for funding.

Various speakers encouraged and shared

Sifi so Mathebula with the learners their different career elds and their day-to-day routines at their

workplaces. Different institutions were also assisting with information about the courses they offer.

“The event linked learners with individuals who are in the elds that they wish to go into.

“We encouraged the learners to use local colleges such as the Gert Sibande College.

“Young people nowadays feel the need to study at institutions far from home.

“It has become common in many communities that those who go and study at local colleges are made

to feel like they are wasting their time, they do not have a promising future and they are therefore not given the respect and encouragement those who study in the cities get.

“This puts unnecessary pressure on the parents and the children.

“We have young people who study in the city while the same courses are offered locally.

“Instead of going to the local colleges, many would rather not go study at all because of the treatment and the remarks they will get.

“This results in more young people who are not at school and more unemployed young people in the community.”

Ms Mokalapa said another issue is that many young people do courses because their parents choose for them and made it clear that if they do not want to study these courses, they must nd a way to pay for their own studies.

She said students will try by all means necessary to avoid being labelled rebels and ungrateful and because they do not have any other alternative, they do what they are told and study something they are not interested in. Ms Forgiveness Mokalapa (21) encourages learners to study locally.
