GOD’S WAY IS WELCOMING AND REWARDING

If I work for five hours, I expect to get paid for five hours. If I work for two,

I expect to get paid for two. What if we worked for a company that paid

everyone the same amount regardless of how long they worked? How

would we feel going home with the same pay for working eight hours as my

coworker did for working only two hours? Secular wisdom would have a

huge problem with this and a visit to the Labor Board would quickly

pursue. But this is God’s wisdom and God’s ways.

We sometimes think that if we pray more, better, or more fervently and go over and above with the practice of our

faith, God will somehow reward us and present us with some kind of merit badge. We are so wrong. Spiritual

practices have only one true purpose: to deepen our love for God. In deepening our love for God, we also increase our

ability to see God’s presence around us, living life more purposefully and contemplatively. What if God chooses to

treat someone who has come on the scene of faith later in life the same as someone who has devoted their whole lives

to it? Does it really matter? If we have the merit badge notion of faith, we can find ourselves feeling a little arrogant

and even jealous of folks who have not followed the same path that we have. We can even see ourselves as the

privileged few who have a corner on the faith and fully possess it.

That thinking doesn’t square with God. God is all about mercy in abundance and is ready to take anyone to himself

regardless of when they come. He is only happy that they have come home and delights in their return. After all, if

you really and truly love someone, does it matter what they will give you in return or what you receive as a benefit?

If relationships were assessed based upon productivity, they would lack authentic love. Sometimes, we invest too

much self interest in our prayer and neglect to see it as an opportunity to pursue our Lover and deepen the intimate

bond we have with God.

When we breathe our last, all that is of consequence is union with God. If my love for God is real, I am going to want

to live the Gospel, abide by the commandments, practice my faith, forgive and love my neighbor, and care for the

environment, regardless of how much time it takes or benefits me. We want God to think and behave as we do, and in

doing so, we set ourselves up for disappointment. God has a totally different agenda and that’s okay. Source: LPi

Let us pray in thanksgiving this week, grateful that the Lord loves us as we are. Even if our journeys look different or we

relate to Him in our own unique way, turning to God and loving Him back is the first step towards the eternal reward.

“Dear God, thank you for loving me as I am.Help me to see myself as your beautiful creation and see my fellow man

likewise. I pray that I may avoid jealousy or judgment of others, focusing on you, your plan, and our relationship. Amen.”

Resources for Mass

With many still worshipping from home and limitations on inhand

missalettes in the pews, we wanted to offer you options for

following along with readings and prayers during mass:

Find the Weekly Readings section in this bulletin each week

Access all weekly and daily readings at bible.usccb.org

Watch Livestream Mass at any of the following sites:

stmarynh.org | stmichaelparish.org (Recordings available.)

EWTN, Word On Fire, CatholicTV, St. Patrick‘s Cathedral

Make an Act of Spiritual Communion: My Jesus, I believe that You

are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this

moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my

heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself

wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Whether inperson or remote, we are grateful that you are still a

part of our community. Thank you for praying with us!

Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius

STARTING OCT 6th:

Join us on this 30 week gracefilled

scriptural journey with Christ as we

come to discover and share in the mystery

of God’s love for each of us.

Here’s what people are saying:

“ Parcipang in them has transformed my

life… I did not believe that God could speak to ME… but God’s

been speaking to me all my life. I didn't know how to listen! ”

Where: St Michael’s Parish When: Tuesdays 6:308PM

For more information or to register, please visit online:

Nurse’s Note

As we mark six months into the Coronavirus

pandemic, we must continue to be diligent

and persistent with our protective factors of

hand washing / sanitizing, mask wearing, and

maintaining social distancing practices. Avoiding large crowds

and gatherings also continues to be a necessary practice.

In order for masks to be protective for others and ourselves,

the mask must cover both the mouth and nose.

On another note, please be aware that as we transition into

the autumn season, mosquito and tickborne illnesses continue

to be a potential health threat when spending time outdoors

until we have a hard frost.

Please call or email with any concerns or questions. Stay well!

Interested in joining/returning to the

Catholic Church? You? A friend?

Our lives sometimes go through seasons of change; of

closeness to God, and distance from Him. Yet God the Father’s

love is steadfast and ever present to those who seek with a

sincere heart, no matter what sins or situations have caused

separation. If you have thought about becoming Catholic and

beginning a “new season” in your life, contact Brian Harrison

for more info at [email protected] or

leave a message at 6037722494. We’re happy to help you

on your faith journey!
