UNIFORM STANDARDS

I appreciate the support of all members  in the community  in the maintenance of high and consistent uniform dress standards across the school.

Wearing the uniform well, in accordance with regula ons at all  mes, is an outward sign to all that Loreto is a school where spirit and morale are high.  That we have such a school is not in doubt.  So, I commend to you the efforts of all in ensuring that we enjoy full commitment to consistent high standards of excellence in our uniform presenta on.

A 10 point checklist to remember and follow:

Hair beyond shoulder length is to be pinned neatly back and  ed with blue ribbon.

Hair colour should not be of an unnatural tone or shade.

Hair styles must not prevent hats from being worn firmly in place.

College hats are to be worn in public and in sunshine.

No make‐up is to be worn.

No jewellery, except for one pair of small plain studs or sleepers in the earlobes and a wrist watch.

No fingernail polish is to be worn.

Only school based badges are to be worn on  es.

Lace‐up shoes are to be in good order, clean and polished.

Blazer (in colder weather) should be worn.

Whilst the blazer is not compulsory, I strongly encourage it to be worn during Terms 2 and 3, whenever the temperature permits, as it complements the uniform immensely.  Certainly, it should be worn whenever the students represent the school in official capaci es, such as Deba ng for example.                                                                                              Can I also remind students that they are to change in and out of sports uniform at the beginning  and end of each PE lesson. The sports uniform can only be worn to and from school for official training or matches.

In shopping centres, I frequently encounter students at leisure and am pleased to note that, for the most part, I have seen  Loreto girls behaving and presen ng very well.   However, on a  few occasions  I have been disappointed with some aspects of the uniform and this is most especially disappoin ng when they are in the company of parents.  I ask that you please remember our clear expecta ons in this regard.  Whenever in public, the uniform is to be worn in full compliance with our high standards.  Please check Pages 93 and 94 in the Student Handbook for further details.

I thank you for your full support in the interest of school spirit and pride in high standards.

CONDOLENCES

To the Loreto Sisters on the loss of Sr Eileen Riley IBVM who passed away late last week.  Sr Eileen taught here in the 80’s.  I remember her as a generous and crea ve woman with a deligh ul sense of fun.  We give thanks for her life of love and service.  May she rest lovingly in God’s eternal peace.  Amen.

We offer our prayers and sincere sympathies  to  the  family of Ashleigh and Shannon O’Connor on  the  recent passing of their Grandmother, Patricia.  May she rest eternally in God’s loving peace.  Amen.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Cheryl Hamilton Principal

`âá|v axãá Music Concerts Congratulations, our first Music Department concert last Friday was very well attended and all students performed very well. Our second concert is tonight, Tuesday 24 April at 6pm. I would like to remind parents that these concerts are key events in the ongoing development of our ensembles and our students. Attendance by all students at the concert in which their ensemble is performing is compulsory. Our expectation is that all students will arrive on time at 5:30 pm at the Mary Ward Centre and go immediately to meet their conductor in the nominated warm up area. The concerts will finish sometime between 8 pm and 9pm. If your daughter is unable to attend the concert in which they are listed to perform, then you should contact the Coordinator of Music, Mr Ben Langford, in writing well prior to the event to negotiate a solution. The concert is licensed and beer and wine will be available for adults. Alcohol must only be consumed in the “supper” area next to the canteen – glasses should never be taken back to the seating area. A complete program can be found in the Concert Information on the Music Noticeboard.

Behaviour Expectations Could parents please remind their daughters of the following expectations that hold true for any music concert.

1. Audience members are expected to be present for the entire concert, whether their performance is first or last on the night – this is a basic courtesy to the other performing groups. Obviously, occasionally circumstances may not allow this to be possible, but students arriving late or departing early should always be approved in advance by the Coordinator of Music.

2. Mobile phones are not to be used in any way during a concert. Staff will confiscate mobile phones if they see students texting or playing games in the audience.

3. When not on stage, students should always be seated either with their parents or in the designated Student Seating area

4. Students are not to gather in the Mezzanine or at the back of the hall at any time during the concert.

5. After a performance, students should pack up and return to the audience, not stay in warm-up areas.

6. It is an expectation of a Formal Concert that audience members do not speak during a performance or while the Compere is introducing a performance.

7. Use of toilets and drinking fountains should be restricted to before the concert or during Intermission.

8. All mobile phones should be turned off – and not used for texting or calls during the concert.

Page 6 Volume 11 – 24 April, 2012

Jus ce Sincerity FREEDOM Verity Felicity

8. All mobile phones should be turned off – and not used for texting or calls during the concert.

9. You should show your appreciation through polite applause only, not calling out / cheering.

Concert Supper Could all students who are performing at the Concert tonight please bring a plate along for Supper.

Loreto Music Festival The schedule for Music Festival heats has now been posted on the Music Notice Board. Heats will begin with Junior Instrumental Solo on Thursday 3rd May and will run until Wednesday 30th May. Ben Langford - Director of Music ctÜxÇàBfàâwxÇàB[ÉÅxÜÉÉÅ gxtv{xÜ \ÇàxÜä|xãá On Tuesday, 1 May we will be conducting interviews for each student and her parent/s with one of her Homeroom teachers. The purpose of this interview is to reflect on the student’s progress and to make positive and practical plans for the future. The interviews will have a slightly different focus depending on the student’s Year Level, eg Year 8’s will reflect on the process of settling into secondary school and Year 11’s on their adjustment to senior schooling. The Year 10 interviews will form part of the development of each student’s Senior Education Training Plan.

Interviews will be conducted between 1.30pm and 6.30pm and will be for approximately 15 minutes. Your daughter should have received her interview time from her Homeroom Teacher. Classes will conclude at 12.30pm. Students may go home or be supervised at school during the remainder of the afternoon. This interview is in addition to the Parent/Student/Subject Teacher interviews held in July when parents have the opportunity to talk with each of their daughter’s teachers about her progress in particular subjects. We hope this interview opportunity will enhance communication between families and the College and our ability to provide the very best for your daughters academically and pastorally. Helen Carty - Deputy Principal - Pastoral Care
