24 Pentecost
Welcome to St Petri on
this Sunday morning in
the Barossa. The Spirit of
God is calling us to
gather in the presence of
our heavenly Father in
the name of Jesus. He
will enlighten us as we
do!
As the church year winds
its way to the Day of
Fulfilment next Sunday,
we get one more word
picture of the Kingdom
of God from Jesus. It is
the Parable of the
Talents, or we might say
the Parable of the
Faithful Servants.
There seems to be a
difference in how faithful
we disciples of Jesus can
be. One person
produces a hundred-fold
from the gifts given to
her by Jesus. One person
fifty-fold and in this case,
one person produces
nothing by burying the
gifts of God deep within
and is judged unfaithful
for doing so.
When the Master returns
to his vineyard, for the
person who does not
use, speak, share and
serve with the gifts he or
she has been given
there comes that
horrible fate of
“gnashing of teeth”. This
is not merely describing
some terrible physical or
emotional pain, this is
describing anger. That is
when you grind your
teeth, don’t you? When
you know you have
blown it; when you know
you had great
opportunity for great
fulfilment and you were
either too distracted and
you missed the moment,
too lazy and missed the
moment; too self-
orientated to see the
moment and seize it.
We pray that as we hear
Jesus’ description of
what faithfulness in his
Kingdom is, the Spirit will
give us the courage and
the joy to help each
other THROW AWAY THE
SHOVEL!
In peace
Pastor Adrian

The Hand in Hand Family Centre is St Petri mission in action, and this week we are celebrating a baptism with one of our families. How exciting to welcome little Emily into the Family of Jesus as we do church together in so many settings. Through the love of volunteers for others, St Petri offers crèche so parents can attend different programs at the Family Centre. This is a time for parent learning and exploration about being a mother or father and richly enhances family life. In the new year we will be looking for people interested in becoming trained in different areas to facilitate a variety of parent programs. Let Sue know if you are available for training. The weekly Play group is staffed by volunteers showing love and friendship to those attending. It is a delight to watch these little families grow, to talk with parents while the children play, and to sing and dance with children and parents after a story is read. Little ones give so much joy if we are willing to be engaged. One of the main missions of the Hand in Hand Family Centre is to share Jesus love with everyone and we do this through Messy Church. Messy Church is growing in numbers, but ever so much more importantly, Messy Church is a place where people can come to know more about Jesus. What a blessing to see families engaging with others over meaningful crafts, hearing the Message of Jesus love, and then sharing a meal together. Messy Church is a great opportunity for us to share God’s love with others through craft, cooking, story time, camera work, sound engineering, setting up and cleaning up, and making friends with all who attend. If you would like to be involved in this exciting ministry, contact Sue or Sharon. The Hand in Hand family Centre is our church in action, and St Petri has 150 years of experience in gathering together to worship God in Nuriootpa. What a great thing to celebrate! We are truly blessed to know God through the resurrection love of Jesus for each of us. Let’s share Jesus’ love with those in our community by walking Hand in Hand in friendship and ministry. Yours in Christ Sue Vogt Child and family Encourager.
