Contenuti The course intends to present and analyse the main sociological approaches to health and illness, with a particular attention to the right to health concept, considered as a subjective right. In this sense, a special part of the course will be devoted to an in-depth analysis of how migrant citizens can exercise this kind of right.

Obiettivi formativi The course aims to introduce students (even through numerous practical exercises) the principles, methods and techniques of social research and statistical analysis of data.

Prerequisiti It is highly recommended to have passed the examination of statistics and social science methodology, if it is present in the curriculum.

Metodi didattici Computer room with Pc, internet and intranet relationship teacher/students, Net Support so�ware to enable students to see on monitor elaborations that the teacher plays on his computer (Master). The main topics of the course are available on the website, constantly updated, in the form of pages and downloadable files on home PC, to allow for easy enjoyment of the course also to students who can not regularly attend lessons in person. Opportunity to interact with the teacher meeting him 'person' or 'distance' (depending on constraints and preferences) in order to favour the understanding of the topics. The fruition of the course in synchronous mode (traditional classroom lessons or 'remote' with the ability to determine the hours in which to connect to the site to participate in the chat discussion in real time) and asynchronous (the topics are addressed by students in moments later than the teacher's explanation, through participation in in-depth forum) and the ability to interact with both the teacher and with other students (in person but also via chat, forums and email), allows students to achieve form of participation in the course and higher interaction to the level reached by the only traditional teaching methods.

Altre informazioni During the practical exercises (see: Objectives), students have to test, on the basis of the data available, the plausibility of the assumptions in the study and, whenever possible, are encouraged to formulate new hypotheses to be tested. It will be a final test, articulated in a written exam (on elements of theory) and a practical test through computer practice (on statistical procedure).

Contenuti In this seminar, various aspects of “social inclusion” will be discussed, ranging from the question of who belongs to the nation to access to local welfare or housing.

Obiettivi formativi Students should acquire understanding of the social dynamics of “inclusion”. They should develop capacities to organize an argument, and skills in the critical interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data and of the information transmitted by the media.

Programma esteso This seminar course will discuss varous aspects of “social inclusion”, ranging from inclusion in the nation to access to local welfare and housing. While the debate over “integration” is o�en restricted to the integration of foreigners, this seminar will alternate between themes regarding mainly foreigners and those concerning Italians, or both Italians and foreigners.

At the end of the course students will have acquired the following skills: awareness of the European integration process in its historical, political, economic and juridical premises; knowledge of the EU institutional framework and of the sources of the European Union law; knowledge of the juridical relationship between the two legal orders and of the judicial proceedings in the ambit of the ECJ jurisdiction; knowledge of the "material" EU law (with specific reference to the four fundamental freedoms in the EU Single Market). Students must also demonstrate that they have acquired a good competence in terms of analysis of cases, texts or EU rules, capability to identify the fundamental elements of a specific topic (synthesis), find solutions to the most common issues in the ambit of the EU law and of its relationship with national legal orders/national rules. Furthermore students will have acquired the following abilities: skill at acquiring specific notions of EU law; skill at addressing and solving the most common case studies; the ability to make an autonomous assessment with regard to the current evolution of the European integration (also with reference to the analysis of news reports and the main juridical and political issues debated in Europe).

Contenuti The course will analyse the main topics related to the EU institutional framework and the economic, political and juridical integration, in order to provide a comprehensive and dynamic survey of the current status of the European integration process. In particular the content will cover two di�erent areas: the "general" part will analyse the EU institutions, sources (also in the perspective of the relationship between the two legal orders, both the European and the national ones), juridical procedures in the ambit of the ECJ jurisdiction, fundamental rights and the EU citizenship. The "special" part will be dedicated to the "four freedoms" (free movement of goods, people, circulation of capitals and the right of establishment) and to the related case-law of the EU Court of Justice.

Testi di riferimento Foreign Students can use a Handbook in English or their mother tongue with the agreement of the teacher.

Obiettivi formativi The course aims at transferring knowledge regarding the institutional structure of the European Union (institutions, sources, relationship with national legal orders, judiciary proceedings etc.) and the EU Single Market. At the end of the course students will have acquired the ability to express themselves without any di�iculty and to have gained a good consciousness in the juridical analysis of the EU law, as well as of the European integration process (also from the perspective of further studies in the international law field). In particular, with regard to KNOWLEDGE: the course aims at providing students with an understanding of the European integration process and its historical, political, economic and juridical premises; knowledge of the EU institutional framework; elements of the juridical relationship between the European Union law and national legal orders; the proceedings in the ambit of the ECJ jurisdiction. With regard to COMPETENCES: the course aims at stimulating the critical assessment of the notions acquired, in particular through the analysis of European integration (also monitoring news reports about the European Union, an in-depth study of specific sensitive issues related to human rights or the analysis- from the juridical point of view- of current events etc.). Students' linguistic knowledge, ability to express juridical contents and to synthesize ideas will be improved by working in groups, by the analysis of the ECJ case-law and by issuing reports about relevant topics of the European Union discourse. With regard to ABILITIES: at the end of the course, thanks to the knowledge acquired, students will be able to solve cases related to the economic freedoms and the respect of fundamental rights in the European Union law; analyse rules, judgments, documents regarding the topics of the course with a good level of awareness and comprehension; develop a comprehensive overview of the European integration process and the rule of the European Union in the current global scenario.

Prerequisiti Specific prerequisites can be imposed by the respective didactive regulations. For LMG (Law) students: constitutional law.

Metodi didattici Lectures and individual/group works dedicated to case-law, specific juridical issues, EU rules etc. Students will be invited to manage a press review dedicated to the European Union on-line (with the use of new social media) and will be encouraged to participate to debating groups on-line. The teacher will o�er students the opportunity to attend a hearing at the ECJ in Louxembourg during the semester.

Altre informazioni students are strongly recomended to attend classes and to apply for DIR platform, in order to download the teaching materials and to get news about the course.


Written Essay. 3 questions: two questions about the "institutional part" and one dedicated to the Single Market issues. Questions may cover general issues or specific cases to be solved on the basis of ECJ case-law. During the course the teacher may decide to schedule intermediate tests for students who attend classes.

Programma esteso The course is divided in two parts: the "institutional" analysis will cover the following topics: - the European integration process; and developments; the fundamental "values" of the European Union and their protection; - The EU institutions and the inter-institutional decision process (in particular: the European Parliament; the Council; the Commission; the European Council; the European Court of Justice; the European Central Bank etc.); the other EU bodies and agencies (e.g. the European Economic Social Committee; the European Committee of the Regions; the specialized agencies and their functions etc.); the powers of the EU; the principles of transferral, subsidiarity, proportionality, sincere cooperation, the inter-institutional equilibrium etc.; - the relationship between the European Union law and national legal orders (direct e�ect; supremacy etc.); - the jurisdiction of the EUCJ and the main judicial proceedings; - fundamental rights in the European Law; - the EU citizenship and its consequences on people in Europe. The "special" part will cover the following items: - free movement of goods; - free circulation of workers; - freedom to provide services and the right of establishment; - free circulation of capitals and freedom in investments. The teacher may focus on specific topics (also in a "monographic" way) in the ambit of the course. ERASMUS STUDENDS are strongly recomended to contact the teacher in order to agree their program.

Contenuti The course will touch on the main juridical problems about the religious and cultural pluralism as in Italy as in Europe: 1) Citizenship, denominational a�iliation and immigration; 2) Models of personal status (marriage; adoption; children's rights, etc.) between the two banks of the Mediterranean; 3) Freedom of expression and religious pluralism; hate speech; anti-Semitism and Islamophobia; 4) Democracy and the right to identity (religious and cultural symbols in the scholastic and employment law field); 5) National law in a comparative key and international and EU law concerning relations between states and religious organizations.

Obiettivi formativi Knowledge of the main problems present in multicultural societies in order to: • educating the new generations to a more mature citizenship (civic education); • greater critical sensitivity and expertise on the issues of racism and discrimination on ethnic and religious grounds; • knowledge of the legislation and jurisprudence on the subject at both national and EU level, useful for a basic knowledge of the problems that legal operators are faced with more and more frequently; • knowledge of both national and international jurisprudence (EDU Court) in matters of religious freedom and anti-discrimination; • better ability to deal with intersubjective dynamics connected to multicultural processes; • In summary: the course moves along the guidelines indicated by the Council of Europe in the Living together Report. Combining diversity and freedom in the 21st-century Europe of 2011 which reads: “We urge educators and education authorities in all member states to develop“ intercultural competencies ”as a core element of school curricula, and to extend these beyond formal education to non- formal settings such as museums and cultural institutions, cultural events and festivals, and the particular media; the Council of Europe should continue its work on a conceptual framework to assist this development ".

Prerequisiti Knowledge of constitutional law and private law is recommended. In the first case is knowledge of the first part of the Constitution concerning the fundamental principles. About the private law such as: juridical person; contract; property and other civil law institutions.

Metodi didattici The course is organized in lectures. There is an obligation to attend at least 2/3 of the lessons in order to acquire the status of a student and benefit from the specific examination program. It also can to take the exam abroad at the Université de Paris XI within the European ‘Gratianus’ project through a four-week stay in October and November following a total of 44 hours of lessons. Lessons will be held in French with foreign teachers from various EU countries. Students will benefit from a Free Mover scholarship (See the Gratianus program in the appropriate file) and will have to participate in a preliminary interview to verify the degree of knowledge of the French language. At the end of the period abroad it will be issued as a certificate of participation by the foreign University and a report must be prepared on a topic indicated by the course holder

Altre informazioni The course will be supported by multimedia tools (DVD, Youtube, Skype) and will use the expertise of external teachers on-site or via Skype. Some lessons could take place in a foreign language.


The verification of the learning in part will take place in the classroom during the entire duration of the course through the assessment of the degree of active participation of the students in the discussion on the topics introduced and developed in the "front" part of the course. A second test will be carried out at the end of the course through an oral interview that will have to verify three skills: i) knowledge of the problems, of the sources of law, of the jurisprudence and of the legal institutions examined during the course; ii) properties of language and legal reasoning; iii) ability to analyze a sentence; iv) ability to apply standards and institutions in practice by solving a practical case.

Programma esteso Reflect on the problems connected to multi-religious societies in a citizenship education perspective. This objective is in full harmony both with what is required by the Council of Europe in the Report and with the European Parliament with the Resolution on the role of intercultural dialogue, cultural diversity and education in the promotion of the fundamental values of the Union of 19 January 2016 . In these documents we recognize the importance of training to educate new generations to live together in equality and dignity, emphasizing that a true intercultural and interdenominational dialogue fosters positive interactions and cooperation by enabling a better understanding and respect among cultures by strengthening, in this way, both the democratic pact and the sensitivity towards universal values and specific cultures. For this reason, the concept developed by the jurisprudence of the Court of Strasbourg and the Council of Europe of "living together" will be used as a key word throughout the course, reflecting on how it is possible, today, to allow peaceful coexistence in multi-ethnic societies and multireligious. In doing so we will ask ourselves what are the di�iculties of living together with respect to: i) the dialectic between freedom of expression and religious freedom; ii) the use of ethnic / religious symbols in the public and institutional space; iv) the circulation of models of personal status of religious matrix in the state legal systems; v) the evolution of policies regarding relations between states, the EU and the Council of Europe and religious organizations; vi) national freedom of religion and conscience policies.

Written test, consisting in response to some questions (both closed questions and open-ended questions) regarding the topics covered in class. The written examination, lasting one hour, will take place at the end of the class and is reserved for students attending the class. It consists of ten questions you answer to with a cross or a word or phrase, and three questions you answer to in half a page (the questions correspond to the subject of a paragraph or a set of paragraphs in the text); Students who do not take the written text are required to take an oral examination, lasting 20 minutes. The oral examination consists in three questions regarding the theoretical and methodological skills taught in the course.

The course aims to provide students with the adequate tools for understanding what are the main problems of the Italian economy and their interactions, that act as a constraint to the achievable growth process and consequently to the employment dynamics. The course also aims to make the students aware of the fact that every economic issue may involve di�erent and conflicting points of view, so that the discussion of every actual problem and the proposed solutions require the use of appropriate reference models. The course purports then to develop the students’ critical attitude towards the features and properties of the models currently used by economists.

Contenuti The course aims to analyse the main problems of the Italian economy in the period a�er the second World War, together with the economic debates generated by these issues and the policy decisions taken to try to solve the problems. More in detail, the topics to be studied are real growth, the constraints to achievable economic development, the role of the balance of payments and exchange rates, the problems of Italian public finances in the framework of the existing European Treaties, the time evolution of inflation and of its determinants, the consequences of the previous problem dynamics on the performance of the labour market and on the behaviour of unemployment.

Obiettivi formativi The course purports to show how the analytical tools learnt in the previous basic courses of economics may be used to discuss and analyse the main problems of contemporary Italian economy and their consequences on the labour market performance. The methodological approach adopted is at the same time historical and analytical, in order to show the student how every problem may be viewed from di�erent standpoints, so that there may be contrasting analyses and suggestions, and how the discussion of every problem requires the use of a specific theoretical model. Particular attention is therefore dedicated to the goal of developing students’ critical attitude towards the features and properties of the alternative models commonly used by economists.

Prerequisiti Basic notions of macroeconomics and of elementary mathematics.

Metodi didattici Front lectures using slides and graphs with possible optional seminars.


Written exam, divided into two parts in sequence. First the student must reply in a concise way to 11 questions concerning the whole course program. This initial test is worth 11 points. Then the student must discuss in a more detailed way two topics chosen by the lecturer among all the arguments treated in the course. Each answer is worth 10 points. The final mark of the exam, lasting about one hour and a half, is obtained by summing up the scores of each part of the exam.

Contenuti History of the idea of Europe In the first part, that will have a general and historical-diachronic character, the course will consider the origin and the evolution of the idea of Europe and the idea of European unity in the ancient, modern and contemporary age. Then it will focus on the contributions by authors discussing these issue during the modern and contemporary epoch. A special issue – the idea of Europe and federalizing Europeanism of Walter Hallstein (1948-1982) – will be discussed in the second part of the course.

Programma esteso A�er an overview on the development of the idea of Europe in the ancient and modern age, the course will focus on modern author as Machiavelli, Althusius and Montesquieu, and on the peace issue theorized by Saint-Pierre and Kant. The ideal and institutional consequences of the XVIII-century American and French Revolution on the idea of European unity will be deeply examined. Particular attention will be even paid on the preparatory debate about the European unification and the related federal and confederal models from the XIX century to the first half of XX century, i.e. the political thought of the Italian Risorgimento (Cattaneo, Mazzini, Garibaldi), the Marxist stream (Bauer, Renner, Kautsky, Trockij, the Italian authors of the “Critica sociale”), the debate in the period between the I and the II World War (Einaudi, Agnelli, Cabiati, Coudenhove-Kalergi, Lord Lothian, Robbins), the Italian antifascist movement (Rosselli, Trentin, Spinelli, Rossi), the French liberalism and personalism, and eventually the theories appeared from 1945 to the XXI century (Monnet, Friedrich, Elazar, Albertini, Habermas). Contenuti The course is divided in three parts: I) an elementary introduction to propositional logic; II) an introduction to argumentation theory, the analysis of fallacies in argumentation, and to the more frequent sistematic errors originated by cognitive biases, and III) an introduction to knowledge representation and reasoning in artificial intelligence. This last part will extend from 'Good Old Fashioned Artificial Intelligence' to Big Data, in an attempt to analyze the peculiarities of 'natural' and 'artificial' reasoning. The focus will be on AI and legal reasoning.

Obiettivi formativi The course aims to boost the students' logical and argumentative skills, both on the inductive and deductive front: students will learn to understand the notion of logical validity, recognize the most common logical and probabilistic errors, the argumentative fallacies, and evaluate the complexity of causal judgment. A further objective is to to increase the knowledge and skills of critical analysis and the capacity to use communication techniques. Finally, the aim of the part on artificial intelligence is to favor a direct approach with an increasingly pervasive and interdisciplinary research field.

DUE TO COVID-19, THE SUMMER SESSION 2019-2020 WILL ONLY INCLUDE ORAL EXAMS. The exam is divided in three parts a) Logic - written test: short elementary exercises, truth tables and natural deduction analogous to those previously carried out in the classroom or illustrated in the reference manuals; a test model will be made available on the DIR (up to 10 points) b) Argumentation theory - written test (max. 20 lines): analysis of a short argument: identification of the argumentative structure, of the support provided by the premises to the conclusion, of logical and argumentative strength (up to 10 points) c) AI - discussion of a topic at will of the part on artificial intelligence (up to 10 points and possible ‘lode’). Those who attend may opt for partial written tests in the middle and at the end of the course. Students can choose to take the exam in English. The active participation to classes can raise the final grade by 1 or 2 points.

Programma esteso The course qualifies as a sort of "toolbox" to improve our arguments and to master di�erent styles of reasoning, human or "artificial". The part dedicated to logic teaches us to recognize the structure of arguments, to formulate valid and correct arguments and to recognize invalid and incorrect arguments. The topics covered will therefore be: - Structure of the arguments - Evaluation of arguments - Evaluate correctness through propositional logic - Derive a conclusion from the premises by means of propositional calculus - Diagrams and syllogisms An argument can be logically correct but pragmatically incorrect and / or non-persuasive. The part on argumentation theory will address these aspects. Particular attention will be paid to fallacies (fallacies of relevance, formal fallacies, undue appeals to emotions, syllogistic fallacies, probabilistic, inductive and causal fallacies, etc.) and to the main cognitive biases. The part on Artificial Intelligence will introduce the main methods of reasoning, knowledge representation, and uncertainty management in artificial intelligence. The objective of this part is to help a approach to the advantages and risks of a technology that has a growing influence on our lives and our professions.

It gives the students some basic notion of the world’s legal systems and deals in depth with some of them. It also aims at enlarging the student’s perspective about issues that a globalized world raises contstantly in order to make him or her able to cope with them. Programma esteso Ad un'introduzione che illustrerà la funzione e il significato della comparazione giuridica farà seguito l’analisi della metodologia comparata e dei temi di micro e macro-comparazione oggetto di studio del comparatista, fra cui la circolazione dei modelli giuridici, i problemi della traduzione giuridica e la classificazione dei sistemi in grandi famiglie. Dopo un approfondimento dedicato all’importanza pratica dello studio del diritto straniero, si so�ermerà in particolare l’attenzione sul tema della globalizzazione, e si approfondirà il diritto prodotto dal WTO e dai c.d. Wto plus. Seguirà l'analisi delle famiglie della tradizione giuridica occidentale e non. Si opererà un'indagine dei sistemi di civil law e di common law che, anche in prospettiva storica, metta in luce convergenze e divergenze - apparenti e reali - fra le due grandi famiglie giuridiche. Verrà poi dedicata attenzione alle famiglie giuridiche della tradizione non-occidentale, nonchè al tema delle nuove frontiere della comparazione con particolare attenzione agli apporti forniti dall'antropologia del diritto. Si approfondiranno gli aspetti fondamentali del diritto, volta a volta, islamico, africano, sud-americano e statunitense. Metodi didattici The course is tought in a conventional way, yet using many less conventional materials, like multi-medial courseware that students are invited to discuss in class. Student's active participation is moreover encouraged by a performance in class of a debate on a topic of student's choice. Attending classes is not compulsory, yet for attending students learning material will be di�erent and provided during the course.

Contenuti A�er a first orientation about definitions and main approaches in family studies, we will explore gender and generational relations, paying specific attention to the interrelations between institutional definitions and social practices. Family experiences and family models will be discussed in their relations with the economic, juridical and political contexts in which they have developed: in this respect, we will look in particular at the models of family relations which social policies in Italy and Europe assume and promote. A special focus will be devoted to discuss new configurations of the relations of intimacy, care and generation in a context of austerity policies, growing social inequalities and new conflict dimensions.

Students should understand the origins and the features of the contemporary democracies, and the reasons of their crisis.

Contenuti This course analyzes the democratic model with both an historical and a theoretical approach. On the one hand, it shows the evolution of the idea of democracy in the ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary age, with reference to the thought of its supporters and its critics. On the other hand, the course examines principles, rules, mechanisms, actors characterizing liberal democracies during the period of crisis and transformation between XX and XXI century.

Obiettivi formativi This course aims at discussing the central role democracy achieved in the European and Western culture, through a long path from the Ancient Greece to the contemporary age, and the crisis of the democratic model in the XXI century. As a consequence, students will be able to develop a critical spirit towards the political and social reality of our time.

Oral exam, about 30 minutes. The exam will be successful if the sum of 18/30 is reached or exceeded. The questions will assess the acquisition of an organic vision of the disciplinary issues; the ability to use them into a coherent and correct exposition, also with a scientific language. The exam is divided into 4-5 questions and concerns on the indicated bibliography, as well as for students attending, on the topics discussed during the lessons. The questions will concern: the main issues of history of early modern and modern history (Dall’Olio’s book, and also Bizzocchi’s book for non attenders), and of environmental history (Mosley’s book). Vote, expressed in thirtieths, takes place on the basis of the following parameters: 1) knowledge of the fundamental notions of bibliography and, for attending students, of the topics covered during the lessons (20 points out of 30); 2) reasoning skills critic on the topics (5 points out of 30); 3) ability to express and communicate, and to use a scientific language (5 points out of 30).

Particular attention will be paid to the application of those methodologies to the history of political and institutional thought of Johannes Althusius, even reading and commenting his works.

Programma esteso The course focuses on the principal historical and political methodologies starting from the problems of researching and evaluating the sources in the modern and contemporary historiographical models. The problem of the historical sources will be deeply examined in the light of the elaboration by F. Chabod. Some exercises will be realized about the methodologies for analysing the sources and most relevant false historical documents in the various epochs (the Donation of Constantine, the false memorandum of Mazzini, etc.) Particular attention will be paid to the application of those methodologies to the history of political and institutional thought of Johannes Althusius. The editorial history of his Political methodice digesta will be critically reconstructed. The theory of the consociationes will be explained even by reading and commenting text in class.

In the middle of the course there will be a preliminary written exam (31 points) and a second written partial exam will be held at the end of the course (to coincide with the first o�icial appeal in January, always 31 points). For both the time available will be an hour and a half. The final grade will be the average of the two partial exams. In subsequent appeals will be one written total test of 31 points (time available two and a half hours). Who will have 24 grade or more, will, if he/she wants to improve their marks, access to an oral test.

Obiettivi formativi Il Corso di Lingua Spagnola – Introduzione – prevede lo studio delle strutture morfologiche e morfosintattiche di base, nonché le funzioni comunicative ed i termini lessicali di linguaggio specializzato riguardante l’area comunicativo-relazionale ed il mondo del lavoro e dell’impiego. Written and oral exams. For written exam, students must study grammar items, communicative functions, lexical items of the course. It is not allowed the use of the dictionary. Students can do the oral exam only if they have passed the written part. If students pass the written exam with a mark between 18-24, they should expose also the grammar contents in an oral examination. For oral exam, it is necessary to study grammar, communicative activities, lexical terms, socio-economic texts of Entorno Laboral, Nivel 1 (from unit 1 to the unit 11) explained during the lessons. Furthermore, it is necessary to read the book Empresas in order to be able to repeat the themes and to speak about the contents. The student should know the items of the course and should be able to interact with the teacher in the Spanish language, expressing his point of view.

Oral examination. For attending students there will be a pre-test, which will be communicated in class.

Programma esteso The course will take into consideration the topics of the organization of the administrative activity in the light of the recent constitutional and legislative reforms, the European principles, norms and the jurisprudential training rules. Concerning the organization, will be analyzed in detail the historical evolution of the distinction between political orientations and management activities. Concerning the activity, will be in particular discussed the general principles of the Constitution relating to the administration, the administrative discretion, its procedure, the types of administrative measures, the regime of validity and e�ectiveness of the same, the public agreements, the self-defense, the contractual activity of the administration and liability regimes.

The student will know the varieties of legal norms, the main theories and practices of fundamental rights, functions and structures of the leading public institutions, the principles of the dynamics of norms and legal orders, the fundamental principles of the constitution which matter with development. The student will learn to distinguish ideals from reality, get access to legal sources and documents, verify their formal value, measure margins of interpretation, conflict and negotiation, get orientation in the planet of institutions and authorities and make questions to lawyers without being manipulated by their rhetorics.

Contenuti The law is to complex and to important to be le� only to jurists. The course o�ers to such non jurists that aim to work for institutions of society and government basic legal knowledge and instruments of navigation and of dialogue with jurists. Obiettivi formativi The study of public law aims to provide basic knowledge of law and an interdisciplinary discoursive ability to cooperate and compete with lawyers. Therefore theories even connected to other sciences and courses shall be mixed with in minimum of practical abilities. The student will learn - to distinguish norms and facts, interests and rights, policies and legal constraints, markets and states ecc; - to observe and apply legal norms related to economic, cultural and political choices; - to analyse and manage procedures of production and administrative o judicial implementation of legal norms, - to evaluate real political choices or proposals in relation to the fundamental principles of the constitution in the political, economical and cultural life of state and society, - to dialogue and care relations with public institutions, with knowledge of their functions and structures, - to assess the need and the quality of legal advise and assistance.

Prerequisiti The course of public law has no formal, but general cultural prerequisites, specially a good knowledge of Italian language (except for those who opt for English, French or German) and notions of history and geography, even at the european and international level. Non Italian students have to work on their Italian language competences, Italian once on their English language skills. A general interest for public news is required.

Metodi didattici Lectures will be integrated by case studies. Methodology is more inductive than deductive and more interactive than unilateral, being requested an active partcipation of students that have to use the sources of law and the materials o�ered by the teacher. Frequency is highly recommended, registration of the lectures is allowed,.

Obiettivi formativi Learning the fundamental concepts of the discipline and the technical language that characterizes it . Instantiation of the main approaches that have qualified the recent development of science policy and their applicability in the field of empirical research .

Metodi didattici The course is organized with lectures (is highly recommended frequency) . For those attending there will be two mid-term tests with the aim of allowing them to self-assess the degree of their readiness and to certify its presence (participation in the trial is worth certificate of attendance in the event of insu�icient score). In case of positive result it will contribute in determining the final assessment .

-Ability to understand a written text of an informative nature-argumentative university level, identifying the subject matter, the arguments used and the point of view of the author; -acquisition of the phases of the documentation, conception, planning, paragraph, dra�ing and revision of the texts; -Ability to produce texts that are correct and defined by clarity, properties and expressive precision, characterised by organicity and structure coherence; -Consolidation of the writing capacity in relation to di�erent textual typologies (in particular the relation and the Tesin).

Contenuti This course, reinforcing the principal linguistic structures and functions, will deal with the comprehension and production of di�erent types of texts, mainly those involved in the academic curriculum. At the end of the course students should be able to understand and produce all types of di�erent levels.

Obiettivi formativi The course aims to: - Recover any previous deficiencies and consolidate the knowledge of language structures for proper and responsible use of Italian Mother Language or Second Language; - Strengthening the capacities of: a. to reading, comprehension and interpretation of written texts of di�erent types of routes planned university; b. production of a variety of texts in relation to di�erent communicative purposes.

Learning control: There are no intermediate tests; the learning control will be done systematically during the lessons, especially through the correction of the assigned exercises Mode of the final assessment: written test. At the end of the course students will have to demonstrate to be able, within a maximum time of two hours, to answer correctly, both in terms of understanding and from that of morphosyntactic and correct exhibition, a series of questions about a text proposed.

Knowledge of the fundamental categories of political science and of the method that characterizes it as empirical-descriptive discipline. Ability to apply theoretical categories and research methods to the most specific political fields.

Contenuti The program of study is divided in two parts: First part, theoretical and conceptual about the basic concepts of Political Science (What means Politics, di�erent types of Power, di�erence between scientific approach to the politics and non scientific approach). Second part, theoretical and historical about the two schools more significant: the so called "Elitistic theory" (Mosca, Pareto9, Michels) and the "Political System's Theory" (Easton, Almond, Powell)

Obiettivi formativi Learning the fundamental concepts of the discipline and the technical language that characterizes it . Instantiation of the main approaches that have qualified the recent development of science policy and their applicability in the field of empirical research .

Metodi didattici The course is organized with lectures (is highly recommended frequency) . For those attending there will be two mid-term tests with the aim of allowing them to self-assess the degree of their readiness and to certify its presence (participation in the trial is worth certificate of attendance in the event of insu�icient score). In case of positive result it will contribute in determining the final assessment .

Altre informazioni Before each class lesson will be made available through moodle slides with the structure of the topics. At the end of each section of the course they will be made available via Moodle texts of the lessons.


Final assessment will ORAL. The two intermediate tests will have a duration of two hours and will consist in filling out a form with closed questions (true / false , multiple choice.).

Programma esteso First section: the basics Part One - What is politics: the main definitions from Aristotle to Locke to Weber, Carl Schmitt, Kelsen - The politics defined according the ends, the origin, the assumption and the specific medium. The di�erence between ideological power, economic power and political power. The classification of types of legitimate power by Max Weber. Part Two - What is Political science: the distinction between art and political science; definition of Science and the three main conceptions of scientific knowledge; Science and theory of language, common language and special language; the di�erence between political science and political philosophy (perceptual language and conceptual language), the di�erence between Political Science and Political Sociology; the di�erence between political science and historiography. Second section: schools of thought Part One: The Theory of the elite (Gaetano Mosca, Vilfredo Pareto, Robert Michels) Part Two: The theory of political system or systemic theory of politics (David Easton and Almond and Powell)
