1) DIWALI :

Diwali is the famous festival in India mostly celebrated by Hindus.

Diwali is five days festival which starts with Dhanteras on which day

people shop for the gold.

People decorate their houses with clay lamps and electronic lights

and making Rangoli.

After the next day of the new year , people celebrate ‘Bhaidooj’.

It is a brother and sister festival similar to Rakshabandhan.

CHAPTER : 2 FESTIVALS OF INDIA

2) HOLI :

Holi is celebrated every year in the Hindi month ‘Falgun’ or March

all over the India.

One day before the colourful Holi festival, “Holika Dahan” is conducted

where huge bonfire is set.

People of North India sing various folk songs on Holi.

3) CHRISTMAS :

Christmas is celebrated on 25th December every year across the World

making the birth of Jesus Christ.

People buy Christmas trees and decorate it with lamps , gifts , lightings

and flowers to celebrate the festival.

Friends and neighbours portray Santa Clause by wearing his costumes

and distribute gifts to children and spread happiness.

The festival spreads the message of Love and peace taught by Jesus

Christ.

4) ONAM :

Onam is the famous cultural festival of Kerala.

It is the symbol of Malayalam culture and tradition.

Onam is originated from the Sanskrit word ‘Shravanam’ , which is

one of the 27 Nakshatras.

Onam celebration is full of folk dance, music, high power games

and boating etc.

Reason of celebrating a day is Home coming of ‘ King Mahabali’.

6) EID-E-MILAD :

Eid is a major Muslim festival celebrated after the end of Ramadan

month.

Before Eid, Ramadan month comes which means month of fasting

and prayer.

It is wisely celebrated across the world by the Muslims.

People organized get together functions with friends and relatives.

6) PATETI [ NAVROZ MUBARAK]:

The Parsi New Year also known as Navroz or Jamshedji Navroz.

People clean and decorate their homes.

They dress up in traditional attires and visit Fire temple.

People visit relatives and friends to wish them.

Whether we are eating at home,dining out or having dinner with

friends, good table manners for kids are important part of manners.

1) Come to the table with washed hands and face :

Before meal always wash up the hands and face.

It shows respect for the person who prepared the meal.

It is also an important healthy hygiene habit.

2) Always ask if there is anything you can do :

Whether at home or someone else’s house ask for the help.

3) Watch the host to see when you should unfold the napkins :

If the host puts napkin on their lap, that’s the signal for you to put

your napkin on yours.

4) Wait until everyone is served before eating :

Never begin eating until everyone is seated and served.

5) Never , ever chew with your mouth open :

Chewing with your mouth closed and not talking when your mouth

is full, shows good table manners.

6) Never stuff your mouth :

Take small bites and never waste the food.

Take your time to chew the food properly or else it would cause of

Indigestion.

7) Do not interrupt when someone else is talking :

At the dinner table , practice of having wait for the turn.

Do not interrupt / speak in between.

8) Never reach to get something :

Never reach across the table to get anything.

Get into the habit of asking table mates to pass, if something

required.

9) Put the napkin on the chair, not on the table :

Always put the napkin on the chair , after complete the meal.

It should never go through or keep on the plate or the table.

10) Always push chair in when finished :

When we get up from the chair, we should push our chairs

back against the table.

11) Always pick up your plate and say thank you :

This is an important habit at home as a part of routine.

In the restaurant, make eye contact with the waiter and say

“ Thank you” .
