In front of an ever-increasing number of challenges, Plant-based chemistry is demonstrating its resilience as well as its ability to grow and to better answer in a sustainable way to the demand of consumers. Obviously the oil price drop is pushing us towards more innovation, based on our ability to transform some of the unique carbon structures provided by nature into differentiated new materials. On another side, the society demands to the industry to take into accounts its wish of a more sustainable development. This will be an opportunity to seize once we actually will have demonstrated the intrinsic benefi ts of plant based chemical solutions. The different national or supranational policies for bioeconomy, - and one day for circular economy -, are also paving the way for a deeper integration of our Plant-based chemistry into this very important economic activity, where the complementarity of industrial chains will be a competitive advantage and a lever for growth and wealth.Nobody ever said this is an easy task and that obvious solutions are at hand to answer to these challenges. Thus, the successes as well as the diffi culties, results of individual initiatives of the industry, are worth to be highlighted. In fact, as it expands, Plant-based chemistry is getting closer to customers and even fi nal consumers in different markets. But each market has

its own specifi cities. France’s plant-based chemistry association, ACDV, recently identifi ed fi ve fl agship sectors showing great promise for the development of such biobased products, namely automotive, coatings, cosmetics, detergents and packaging. These fi ve sectors will be showcased throughout the Plant Based Summit’s conference program to demonstrate how further use of biobased solutions in everyday products will benefi t consumers and society. The year to come should bring successful developments as many innovations are being proposed to market. In any event, the Plant Based Summit will once again contribute to the development of biobased chemicals in a world where carbon emissions and dependency on fossil resources have to be reduced. Our Summit will also offer a unique opportunity for each one to understand the challenges at stake and to forge one’s conviction on the path to follow to build a sustainable growth.

Founded at the end of 2007 at the initiative of agro and chemical industry players in France, the Association Chimie du Végétal (ACDV) gathers around fi fty members. Its role is to promote plant-based chemistry as part of the bioeconomy and support its economic development both in France and in Europe.ACDV proposes and creates the industrial, economic and political conditions conducive to the development of the biobased products in a competitive, responsible and sustainable way.Spearheading association in Europe, the ACDV is:● Representing and promoting bio-based products, dynamic part of the bioeconomyThe Association drafts a serie of common positions and arguments, aimed at players in the bio-based chemical industry and stakeholders so as to build an appropriate framework for the development of bio-based chemical intermediates and materials.● Embarking the downstream value chainTo discuss various paths of action and development strategies for different market sectors (e.g. construction, coating, home & personal care, transport, and packaging).

IAR’s strategic axis are: bio-based chemicals, biomaterials, advanced biofuels and biogas, ingredients for food and feed as well as renewable resources Its activities focus on supporting the development of the bioeconomy in France and more specifi cally in the regions of Haut-de-France and Grand Est.
