INTRODUCTION

Travellers going to Udine will not fail to notice Udine’s castle on a lone-standing hill, rising over a monotonous plain.History tells us that in July 452 AD, Attila’s Huns built this mound by carrying the earth inside their helmets and that, from the top of this hill, Attila watched his troops plun-der Aquileia after a siege that had lasted three years. We would like the legend of Attila and the hill of Udine to ideally provide a cultural bridge between the splendours of Aquileia and this group of distinguished clinicians gathered here for the congress. The second edition of “HPB SURGERY: UDINE MEETS THE EXPERTS” which takes place after a two-year interval aims to review themes and innovations in the field of hepato-biliary surgery.Three specialised courses on emerging technologies (Robotic Surgery, Preservation of the organs for transplantations, Breast Surgery) will be the cornerstone of the main focused on the development of mini-invasive laparoscopic liver surgery and liver transplantations. The delivery of some awards for organ transplant research promoted by the Univer-sity Department of the Medical Area and above all the honorary degree awarded to Professor Ronald W. Busuttil of UCLA, a world famous specialist in the field of liver transplantation t as well as a world renown surgeon, will be the highlight of the the-mes which will be raised and discussed in the evocative Parliament Hall.

INTRODUZIONE
