We are beginning the formal moments of faith formation at St. Lucy Parish. From little children to the adults in our communi-ty the catechetical formation of the individual and community has begun in earnest. It is a time of celebration and joy as we fulfill the command of our Savior Jesus Christ, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.“ (Mt 28:19)
The spiritual stewardship of this great treasure is a life-long endeavor that involves the whole community. We remember at baptism how the parents and godparents are reminded that they are the first and best teachers in the way of faith. We know by experience that the example that parents, families and faith communities share with each other helps to grow and strengthen the faith of children as well as those who are seeking God. It is an invitation to share our faith given to each and eve-ry Christian. (Continued page 5..)
Estamos empezando los momentos formales de forma-ción de la fe en la Parroquia de Santa Lucía. Desde niños pequeños a los adultos en nuestra comunidad la forma-ción catequética de la persona y la comunidad ha comen-
zado en serio. Es un momento de celebración y alegría mientras cumpli-mos con el mandato de nuestro Salvador Jesucristo, "Vayan, pues, a las gentes de todas las naciones, y háganlas mis discípulos; bautícen-las en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo.” (Mt 28:19)
La corresponsabilidad espiritual de este gran tesoro es un esfuerzo de toda la vida que involucra a toda la comunidad. Recordamos cómo en el bautismo se les dice a los padres y padrinos que son los primeros y me-jores maestros en el camino de la fe. Sabemos por experiencia que el ejemplo que los padres, las familias y las comunidades de fe comparten entre sí ayuda a crecer y fortalecer la fe de los niños, así como aquellos que buscan a Dios. OUR RESPONSIBILITY FOR OTHERS
The Second Vatican Council has called us to envision the Church as the people of God. As a community of believers we are responsible for our brothers and sisters, their salva-tion, their journey of faith, their physical well-being. Many of the documents of Vatican II and volumes of work since the mid-1960s give us advice, guidelines, and encouragement to take care of one another: the poor, the elderly, the un-born, the broken, the infirm.
Because Vatican II is part of our recent history--indeed many of us were already born--this may strike us as a new and revolutionary idea. But today's readings show us the agelessness of the issue of social justice. Eight hundred years before Christ was born, Amos warned the wealthy not to cheat the poor. In Paul's first letter to Timothy, he encourages all prayers to be for all people; and finally, the Gospel urges the wise use of money. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

El Concilio Vaticano II nos ha llamado a imaginar la Iglesia como el pueblo de Dios. Como una comunidad de creyentes somos responsables por nuestros hermanos, por su salvación, su peregrinar en la fe, su bienestar físico. (Notas del Párroco, continuado de la pagina 1) ¿Cómo hacemos esto en Santa Lucía? Podemos observar los momentos formales y estructurados; las cla-ses, los retiros, los estudios de la Biblia, que son muy importantes y vitales en nuestra comunidad, también entendemos la realidad de la familia como centro de la vida de fe. Es en los momentos informales de la vida; la oración antes de las comidas, las palabras de agradecimiento a Dios por la belleza de una puesta de sol, la risa y las lágrimas, tanto en la tristeza y en la alegría que experimentamos a Jesús, el Hijo de Dios, pre-sente y vivo en nuestra vida.
Nuestros programas de formación en la fe de la parroquia, la escuela parroquial, nuestras celebraciones de Misa los domingos y entre semana son las bendiciones que nos ayudan a abrir el corazón para escuchar la santa Palabra de Dios en los momentos informales de la vida. Nunca es demasiado tarde para empezar y tampoco es tarde demasiado tarde para aprender. Gracias por sus oraciones y apoyo a nuestra parroquia.

(Pastor’s Notes Continued form page 1) How do we do this at St. Lucy? We can look to the formal and structured moments; the classes, the retreats, the Bible studies, which are very important and vital in our community, we also understand the reality of the family being at the center of the life of faith. It is in the informal moments of life; the prayer before meals, the words of thanks to God for the beauty of a sunset, the shared laughter and tears in both sorrow and joy that we experience Jesus, the Son of God, present and alive in our lives.
Our parish faith formation programs, our parish school, our Sunday and weekday celebrations of Mass are all blessings that help us open our hearts to hear God’s holy Word in the informal moments of life. It is never to late to begin and never to late to learn. Thank you for your prayers and support of our parish.

Today is Catechetical Sunday 2016
"Prayer: The Faith Prayed"
The Church through the United States celebrates the Catechetical Sunday today, September 18, 2016. This year the theme of the Catechetical Sunday is "Prayer: The Faith Prayed." Those who the Community has des-ignated to serve as catechists and teachers of religious education were called forth at the 9 AM and 1 PM Masses to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechet-ical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededi-cate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.

La Iglesia en los Estados Unidos celebra el Domingo Catequético hoy 18 de septiembre de 2016. Este año el tema del Domingo Catequético es "La oración: La fe orada". Aquellos a quienes la comunidad ha designado para servir como catequistas y maestros de educación religiosa fueron llamados durante las misas de 9 AM y 1 PM, para recibir la comisión de su ministerio. El Domin-go Catequético es una maravillosa oportunidad para re-flexionar sobre el papel que cada persona desempeña, en virtud del Bautismo, en transmitir la fe y en dar testimo-nio del Evangelio. El Domingo Catequético es una opor-tunidad para que todos reiteren su compromiso con esta misión como comunidad de fe.

August Fifth Sunday Collection We want to thank the members of St. Lucy Parish for their generous monetary donations to SVDP. We will use the funds received to help with rent, utilities and food for the needy who visit the St. Lucy Outreach Office.
Third Sunday of the Month Food Collection This is the last monthly non-perishable food collection for 2016. Items needed for our pantry: Peanut butter and jelly, tuna fish and hearty soups.
Auto Donations If you wish to donate an auto to help the needy in our Parish please call the St Vincent de Paul National Ve-hicle Donation Program: 800-322-8284 or visit http://svdpusa.careasy.org/HOME.html to donate online. Most cars, boats and RV's, running or not are accept-ed. DMV and IRS paperwork is done by the Auto Do-nation program. Funds from the auto donation pro-gram are used by the St Lucy Conference to help with rent and utilities. Also please call the Outreach Office and let us know about your donation so we can track it.

Colecta de Alimentos el Tercer Domingo del Mes: Esta será la última colecta de alimentos no perecede-ros mensual para el año 2016. Los productos que ne-cesitamos para nuestra despensa son: crema de ca-cahuates y mermelada, latas de atún y sopas.
