FSG Sunday Cuppa: (The Sunday Cuppa) is kindly facili-tated by St Joseph’s Parish Filipino Support Group (FSG) held outside the church, following the 9am Sunday morning Mass each week. We thank FSG for their commitment to this ministry each week. If you are new to the parish, the Sunday Cuppa is a great way to meet up with fellow parishioners. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided, but if anyone would

like to contribute a cake or share plate that would be most welcome. Presently the Sunday Cuppa is in recess and will recommence on Sunday 9 February 2020

REFLECTION by Fr Michael Tate The Voice of Jesus Two sets of two brothers were running successful fami-ly businesses. But once Jesus passed by and called them, the Gospel says, at once they left their boats and followed him. I think because, hearing his voice, they realised that Jesus was the true vocalist of God. Irish author and mystic, John O’Donohue, once wrote, ‘Something in us senses and knows how perfectly the contours of the soul fit the divine embrace.’ * Maybe Simon Peter, Andrew, James and John sensed that, in this Jesus, there was a Soul whose contours perfectly fitted the divine embrace. They were prepared to risk everything for the chance to have their souls contoured along the same lines. The call: ‘Follow me …’, was not to an isolated individ-ual promising to save his soul, but to two brothers and then another two brothers. Immediately, a community was being formed and its task was to bring others into that Jesus-following community. We could pause for a moment to hear the brothers beckoning us to follow the call of that voice sounded by Our Lord Jesus Christ.

NURSING HOME VISITATION: Our parish ministers to many of the Nursing Homes in our area. Our Priests visit but we also have a very dedicated group who take communion either monthly or every fortnight (depending on the facilities requirements). We are urgently in need of extra volunteers who would be willing to become part of the visiting team. This is a beautiful ministry and much appreciated by the resi-dents of the Nursing homes. If you wold like to be involved please contact the parish office.

PASTORAL CORNER Our readings today remind us that because we are bap-tised, all of us are called to live as follow-ers of Jesus. We must try, to the best of

our ability, to spread his message of peace, justice and love. Just as the Jewish people were expecting a different kind of Messiah, we might wonder why Jesus would choose simple fishermen to be his followers to do his important work. But wealth, power and education don’t make any difference here – Jesus calls all of us.

Kathy Twohill, Pastoral Associate.
