    AIR BAG AND PRETENSIONERS

    IMPORTANT: All operations on the air bag and

    pretensioner systems mu st be carried out by

    qualified personnel wh o have been app ropriately

    trained.

    The Air bag Workshop Repair Manual, section 88MUST be consulted.

    ATTENTION: When w orking und er the vehicle do

    not su bject the u nd erside of the floor to impacts

    without removing the p retensioner fuse and

    waiting 5 minu tes for the reserve capacity to

    discharge.

    Refer to section 88 "Fuse allocation".

    Each time th e steering wh eel is removed , the stee-

    ring w heel bolt MUST be renewed. Refer to sec-

    tions 88 and 57A.

    IMPORTANT : Whenever th e steering w heel is re-

    moved, the air bag connector (B) MUST be dis-

    connected.

    The air bag has a connector wh ich short circuits

    when it is disconnected to pr event incorrect trig-

    gering.

    HEAT SHIELDS

    Heat shields mu st be refitted, whether they are

    for bodywork or mechanical components.

    TIGHTENING TORQUES

    The recomm ended tightening torques MUST be

    observed.

    serve the safety instructions by using the app ro-

    priate protection (gloves, mask, etc.).

    This frame assists the operator wh en removing or

    refitting swing-out or sliding d oors.

    This tool has been sp ecifically adap ted for the

    open ing elements of u tility veh icles.

    It can take the w eight of one door with all comp o-

    nents fitted so that th e assistance of a second per-

    son is no longer requ ired.

    SODICAM clip removal pliers.

    Using these pliers it is easy to remove "fir-tree"

    clips and interior trim clips such as on d oor panels,

    sound proofing mats and mudguard mountings .

    Door window winder handles may also be remo-

    ved.(First affix a small p iece of masking tap e to

    the door panel to avoid d amaging it during remo-

    val.)

    The pliers have one flat and one bent n ose, giving

    easy access to remove clips without d amagingthem . The head s of the clips are not deformed,

    enabling them to be re-used wh en refitting.

    This mechanism controls the central and u pp er locks simultaneou sly.

    Remove:

    - sliding door trim (use clip-removing pliers to take off the retaining

    clips),- door barrel control linkage (A),

    - exterior opening handle control linkage (B),

    - interior opening handle control linkage (C),

    - door locking control linkage (D),

    - control linkage for central and lower locks (E),

    - control mechanism (three mounting bolts (F)).

    NOTE: When th e lock control linkage is refitted, do not p ull on th is un-

    til the control mechan ism is clipped in position. The position of this lin-

    kage at rest ensures that the lock will unlatch if the open ing handle is

    operated . If the linkage is subjected to any strain, it may cause p ro-

    blems w ith the u nlatching.

    REMOVING ARM AND UPPER RAIL

    Remove:

    - the three bolts for mounting the arm on the

    door (A),

    - the cover clipped on the rail (B).

    Release the tensioner by pulling the slide tow ard sthe rear, out of the rail.

    Remove the rail mou nting bolts (C).

    The front section of the rail is secur ed to a m etallic

    bracket.

    This bracket is secured to the side of the body bymeans of three mou nting bolts (D).

    REFITTING

    When refitting the slide, make sur e that the ten-

    sioner will not collide with th e heads of the bolts

    (C) wh ich secure the guid e rail.

    REFITTING

    When the slide is refitted, you m ust m ake sure

    that the tensioner which supp orts the door makes

    contact w ith the rail when th e door is closed.

    To perform th is operation, insert a flat screwd ri-ver between the rail the the slide tensioner.

    Position th e tensioner so that it makes contact

    with th e rail (1) and tighten th e slide mou nting

    bolts . (Two p eople are required to perform th is

    operation. )

    NOTE: This operation should be carried ou t after

    the door h as been ad justed.

    REFITTING LOWER ARM

    Carry ou t the following ad justm ent before refit-

    ting the arm and and before tightening the

    mou nting bolts.

    When th e door is opened, the slide link arm flexesun der the weight of the door.

    This means that the centring fittings mou nted at

    the front of the d oor are offset in relation to the

    cones fixed on th e door of the cab.

    To coun teract this problem, w ith the door half

    open you mu st take the strain off the d oor so that

    the centring fittings do n ot make contact with the

    cones at the start of the p rocess.

    Once the door has been correctly positioned ,move the lower arm dow n so that it makes

    contact w ith the guid e rail.

    Tighten the arm m ounting bolts on the door.

    Check the adjustment an d check that, when it is

    opened, the door is supp orted and d oes not drop

    suddenly.

    NOTE : Two persons are required to perform this

    operation.

    port tool (see section 50).

    Place in position the mou nting bolts for the up per

    and lower arms and the mou nting bolts for the

    central slide (see previous pages).

    If the opening clearance between th e sliding door

    and the rear wing p anel or between the sliding

    door an d th e cab door is ou t of para llel, it must be

    corrected by th e following procedu re.

    Ad justm ent at Z of the centring fittings and the

    lower arm to pivot the door.

    After adjustment, consult the refitting m ethod for

    the lower arm (see page 51-20).

    The clearance of6.5 mm at X (see illustration on previou s page) bet-

    ween the sliding door and the rear wing p anel is obtained by adjusting

    the central slide.

    With the door closed, remove the d oor trim an d u nd o the moun ting

    bolts for the slide (A).

    Move the d oor to ad just it at X to ensu re that th e opening clearance iscorrect

    Two peop le are required to to carry out th is operation.

    After carrying ou t the ad justm ent bu t before torque tightening, follow

    the instru ctions for refitting the central slide given on page 51-18.

    that it is flush at Y with the rear door p anel, adjust

    the upper lock striker plate (B).

    After adjusting Y, partially remove the door seal

    in order to check that clearance (C) is 2 mm at Z

    between the striker plate and th e door lock.

    - door trim,

    - the inter ior opening handle (one mounting

    screw (H)),

    - the two mounting screws (I) from the lock stri-ker plate on the door.

    In the same way as for removing th e right-hand

    door lock, remove the control cables from the

    hooks, either d irectly at the lock or, if necessary,

    at each hook as d escribed above.

    Remove the lock from the inner shell of the d oor.

    REFITTING AND ADJUSTING

    Perform the operations to refit the lock together with its retaining hooks in reverse order to rem oval.

    Fit the hooks w ithout tightening their mou nting screws.

    Fit the door seals.Remove the tw o mou nting screws (J) for the central striker plate (see previous p age).

    NOTE : Possible movements for adjustment are shown by the arrow s in the d rawings below.

    Move the stops to the following p ositions:

    - the fixed stops (K) to the vehicle floor,

    - the moving stops (L) on the doors into the top position but do not lock them.

    Check the clearance between the tw o doors. If the

    two doors are not correctly centred , adjust the

    hinges to obtain th e correct clearance.

    Follow the instru ctions given on the next page to

    carry ou t this ad justment.

    Ad just th e upper and low er striker plates (M) in

    order to obtain sufficient p ressure for the door

    seals.

    Ad just the central striker p late (J) (see pr evious

    page) and th e retaining hooks (N).

    Tighten the m ounting screws for the m oving stops

    (L) so that they m ake contact with th e fixed stops

    (K).

    IMPORTANT

    Before tightening mou nting screws (C) and (D) on

    the fixed up right, make sure that the seal around

    the glass is properly fitted on the glass.

    Perform th e following operations to ad just the

    position of the glass correctly on th e operating

    slide for the w indow lifter:

    - Secure the glass on the slide but do not tigh-

    ten it.

    - Raise the window so that it is in the top stop

    position.

    - Tighten the screw which can be accessed

    through the opening in the inner d oor shell.

    NOTE : If the w indscreen w iper motor has opera-

    ted d uring the removal operation, reset this to the

    "park" position before refitting the w iper arm s.

    REFITTING THE WINDSCREEN WIPERS

    A vehicle equip ped with a dr ivers air bag is iden ti-

    fied by p lacing an ad hesive label in the bottom cor-

    ner of the wind screen on the drivers side.

    If the vehicle is also equipp ed w ith a pa ssenger air

    bag, a second adhesive label is placed at the bottom

    of the windscreen on the passenger side.

    Each time the wind screen is replaced, d o not forget

    to affix the labels indicating tha t the veh icle is

    equipped with an air bag.
