CAFÉ Reading is a structure that helps students develop essential skills in reading. It is a highly regarded program and a key part of reading at Newtown State School. It focuses on the explicit teaching of specific strategies to help in four elements of reading:

Comprehension: I understand what I read.

Accuracy: I can read the words.

Fluency: I can read smoothly with few errors, and understand what I read.

Expand Vocabulary: I know, find and use interesting words.

Each week, the newsletter will highlight a CAFÉ reading strategy that you can use when you Read to, Read with and Listen to your child read at home. By talking about and using these strategies, you will be reinforcing the concepts learned in the classroom as we work together to improve children’s reading skills.

“There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.”

–Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

Thank you for your support at home!

Positive Behaviour for Learning News What is the GOTCHA shop? Students have the opportunity to spend their GOTCHAs at the GOTCHA shop each week. The GOTCHA shop has a variety of rewards that can be purchased certain numbers of GOTCHAs. For example, students can trade 20 GOTCHAs for a novelty, 15 GOTCHAs to spend a lunch time in the games room or 50 GOTCHAs to use The Principal’s chair for the day. This week the PBL lesson focus is when at play, play by the rules. Everyone plays games, but it is more fun if everyone plays by the rules. Children are required to set the rules at the beginning of play and then ensure these rules are followed. This behaviour can be promoted at home by discussing the rules to games before play begins. Talk to your children about the games they participate in at play times, what they enjoy about it and also how they feel and act when problems arise in their favourite lunch time games.

Reminder: Please return all Carbal Hearing Forms to the Support Hub, or office, as soon as possible.

Vision Screening Forms (Prep Students) are

also required back as soon as possible.

ideas for them.
