PLAYGROUND UPGRADE A massive thank you to the P&C and SRC for paying for the amazing playground transformation. The SRC have raised $1561 towards their $2000 total for the beautiful dragonfly. Well done! A surprise donation came from the Saratoga Bakehouse last week, where a money tin had been placed after the fire in G Block. $272.40 was donated to the school. This amount has been added to the SRC fundraising efforts.
DISCO YEAR 6 FUNDRAISER Our Year 6 farewell disco fundraiser is on Wednesday 31 July. K-2- 4:30-5:30pm and 3-6 5:45 to 7pm. Thanks to Year 6 parents for assisting in the canteen and Suzanne Petrie Sapsford for coordinating, and teachers for supervising. Theme: SPOTS AND STRIPES and sensible enclosed shoes.
SCHOOL DISCO The staff of Brisbania Public School are happy to support the school discos by providing supervision during these events. Your co-operation would greatly assist us with providing a safe and enjoyable disco for your child.
The discos are for current BPS students only. Students are to arrive no more than 10 minutes prior to their disco session and are to be collected promptly at the finish of their disco session.
No child will be permitted to play in the COLA or playground at any time during the disco evening.
No parents are allowed into the hall until the disco finishes.
If parents wish to remain on school grounds during their child’s disco session they are to stay at the back of the COLA near the silver tables.
If a child is not able to separate from their parents and happily attend the disco under teacher supervision then they should not attend until they can.
Children must wear suitable dancing shoes at all times and are not to bring balloons, toys or lollies.
At the conclusion of the disco, parents will be permitted into hall to collect their child. If another
person other than their parent is collecting a child, then a note written by the child’s parent
authorising this arrangement, must be given to a supervising teacher.

ENROL NOW FOR KINDERGARTEN 2020 Do you have a child starting school in 2020? Please register at the office and pick up your information pack. If you have friends or neighbours with children who will be in Kindergarten next year, please let them know. Kindergarten numbers impact on the whole school structure each year, so the earlier we know Kindergarten numbers the easier it is to plan teachers, classes and rooms needed in 2020. Our Headstart program will be held on the first 5 Fridays of Term 4 - 18 October, 25 October, 1 November, 8 November and 15 November with our Headstart Parent Information Morning on 18 October @ 9:30am.

K-6 Brisbania PS Speaking Competition 2019 Who: All children from Kindergarten to Year 6 Topic: Free choice When: Thursday 1 August 2019 (Week 2 Term 3) Where: Hall Time: Stage Two & Three- 9.15am. Early Stage One and Stage One- 11.20am. You are invited to participate in a school speaking competition. Two children from each stage will be selected to represent our school on Thursday 15 August at Empire Bay PS. (The final will be at Warnervale PS on Thursday 22 August) Parents are welcome to attend. Speech Times Early Stage One: 1-2 Mins (warning bell at 1 ½ minutes) Stage One: 1-2 Mins (warning bell at 1 ½ minutes) Stage Two: 2-3 Mins (warning bell at 2 ½ minutes. Continuous bell will sound once limit has been exceeded) Stage Three: 3-4 Mins (warning bell at 3 ½ minutes. Continuous bell will sound once limit has been exceeded) You get to choose a topic of your choice. It needs to be age appropriate without being boring; something YOU, the student, really feels comfortable/enthusiastic/passionate on which to speak. The topic should be a personal choice, not a class assessment task. Introduction. This needs to grab the audience’s attention. Dare to be different but do not turn it into a drama performance. Be creative and original. Do not begin your speech with good morning/afternoon or introduce yourself and state your topic, as the compare has already done this. Sustained audience engagement The judges will be noting how the audience responds, particularly the students. Have a relaxed stance. Make eye-contact. Use facial expressions. Project your voice and speak clearly. Try not to rush or mumble. Varying the tone and volume
of your voice will make your speech more interesting Use humour to get the audience reacting. Take care not to overdo ‘toilet’ humour or be too
colloquial with the expressions you use. Have small palm cards not sheets of paper. Use these as cues to prompt what you will say
next. Do not read sentences as the audience will lose interest. You may know your speech well enough that you do not need to refer to your palm cards. If you drop your palm cards, leave them on the floor and continue as best you can.
Presentation Be enthusiastic- this can be contagious for the audience, so look excited, smile and be
confident. Be prepared- practise in front of the mirror, your family, friends, classmates, stage etc.
Make sure you have your timing right. You will be fantastic! Stance- feet slightly apart, feel free to move to include gestures. Try not to sway, giggle or
stand stiffly. Gestures- use these to emphasise a point, assist your humour or sustain the audience
engagement. Be comfortable so they look natural and spontaneous. Gimmics- eg.‘Put your hand up if...’to the audience, shouldn’t be overused. Conclusion Try to finish leaving the audience buzzing. Be creative, original, funny! Perhaps include a rhetorical question, or an outrageous statement or a humorous story. DO NOT FINISH WITH “THANK YOU FOR LISTENING “. NO props or visual aids are allowed.

Please note that the canteen is closed on Friday this week (2 August) as it is NAIDOC Day and all children will be getting a sausage sizzle, so there isn’t much need for the canteen. We don’t have enough volunteers to cover all the Fridays this term so have made the decision to close this Friday as it will cause the least disruption. Thanks for your understanding. If you have a few spare hours and would like to volunteer in the canteen please message me on 0423036697. Next Wednesday (7 August) is Book Parade Day and the P&C will be running a cake stall. Donations of cupcakes, slices, cookies and muffins can be left at the canteen on Wednesday morning. If you can help to sell cakes at the stall please message me on 0423 036 697. Thanks in advance. Our next P&C meeting is on Tuesday 20 August at 7pm in the staffroom. Please come along if you’re free. The next fundraising meeting is on Tuesday 6th August at 7pm in the staffroom.
