BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Music Technology TERM 3 The Brief : T3.1 Movie Project Scenario: A film company wants to see an example of your composing and sound design work. You can work within a team to produce a short movie and an accompanying soundtrack that can be used as part of your show-reel. Firstly you should create a proposal for your own short film including a simple storyboard. You will also outline how you plan to use dubbing (voices), effects and music to enhance your piece. You will film using a college camera or your own (phone cameras are acceptable). Once you have filmed all the shots required you must then edit them within I-movie and save as a Quicktime file. Import the final edited movie into Logic and start to create your soundtrack. It must include:

    1. Appropriate music. 2. A noise floor/atmosphere (interior, exterior, busy street, field etc). 3. Realist or effective sound effects (doors slamming, cups being put down etc). 4. Clear and realistic ADR (automated dialogue replacement).

Export the audio to the movie and upload to your blog site via a video hosting site. A version with directors commentary will suffice as evidence for the film music and sound effects analysis you carried out at the start of the process. Discuss how you structured the movie, what music and sound effects were applied, and how you took on influence or inspiration from existing composers in this field. Submission Deadline: 22/5/15 Task

    1. After having explained/illustrated/analysed a range of moving image based material, identifying audio and visual elements, you must work in a group to create the structure (storyboard) for your own movie project. When the project is complete you will add a directors commentary discussing your analysis. GC1

    2. Once you have filmed and edited your movie you must now compose a suitable soundtrack (competently/with confidence and flair). GC 2 3. You must also produce appropriate sound design for the moving image (competently/with confidence and flair). GC 3 4. You must export the end projects (including the directors commentary version) to a range of suitable file formats that can be watched in HD, emailed, and

hosted to Youtube. GC 4 EVIDENCE: Finished movie with music and sound design / plus a directors commentary version both in formats that can be uploaded and linked to your Tumblr.
