La terapia delle patologie cardiovascolari ha subito una radicale evoluzione, e questo è avvenuto soprattutto nell’ultimo decennio. All’intervento classico “a cuore aperto” si sono affiancate nuove metodologie meno invasive o transcatetere. Spesso questa evoluzione non è stata interpretata dal cardiochirurgo come una opportunità, ma vissuta come un qualcosa di estraneo alla rigorosa tecnica cardiochirurgica, legata a schemi classici, ma soprattutto legata a risultati certi e ben valutabili. Cinquant’anni di nobile cardiochirurgia non potevano certamente essere offuscati da un, a volte, velleitario trattamento transcatetere.Ma oggi le nuove tecnologie sono in continua e sempre più frenetica evoluzione. Gli investimenti delle principali aziende del nostro settore propongono devices sempre più performanti. Il cardiochirurgo deve essere non solo interprete ma anche leader in questa evoluzione, perché la sua preparazione e la capacita di saper proporre al paziente la scelta migliore di trattamento possa essere prevalente nel percorso diagnostico e terapeutico.Nel 2017 a Napoli il “1^ SICCH Course on Transcatheter Surgery” ha avuto un grande successo sia di partecipanti che di successivi commenti. Abbiamo quindi voluto proporre un secondo evento nel quale si prosegua nel percorso di conoscenza e di verifica di tutto ciò che oggi viene proposto in tema di trattamento delle patologie cardiovascolari, perché il cardiochirurgo sia sempre un qualificato interprete di questa affascinante evoluzione.
