LITURGY OF THE WORD

First Reading ~ Isaiah 49:3, 5-6

The LORD said to me: You are my servant, Israel, through whom I show my glory. Now the LORD has spoken who formed me as his servant from the womb, that Jacob may be brought back to him and Israel gathered to him; and I am made glorious in the sight of the LORD, and my God is now my strength! It is too little, the LORD says, for you to be my servant, to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and restore the survivors of Israel; I will make you a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth. RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 40:2, 4, 7-8, 8-9, 10

R. Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.

I have waited, waited for the LORD, and he stooped toward me and heard my cry.

And he put a new song into my mouth, a hymn to our God.

R. Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.

Sacrifice or offering you wished not, but ears open to obedience you gave me.

Holocausts or sin-offerings you sought not; then said I, “Behold I come.”

R. Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.

“In the written scroll it is prescribed for me, to do your will, O my God, is my delight,

and your law is within my heart!”

R. Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.

I announced your justice in the vast assembly; I did not restrain my lips, as you, O LORD, know.

R. Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.

SECOND READING ~ 1 Corinthians 1:1-3

Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, to the church of God that is in Corinth, to you who have been sanc-tified in Christ Jesus, called to be holy, with all those everywhere who call upon the name of our Lord Je-sus Christ, their Lord and ours. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Alleluia, alleluia.

The Word of God became flesh and dwelt among us. To those who accepted him, he gave power to become children of God.

Alleluia, alleluia.

GOSPEL ~ John 1:29-34

John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. He is the one of whom I said, ‘A man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.’ I did not know him, but the reason why I came baptizing with water was that he might be made known to Israel.” John testified further, saying, “I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from heaven and remain upon him. I did not know him, but the one who sent me to bap-tize with water told me, ‘On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain, he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ Now I have seen and tes-tified that he is the Son of God.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

NICENE CREED

I believe in one God, the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

At the words that follow, up to and including “and became man,” all bow.

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead

and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the

COMMUNION HYMN: BB 335 or 575

RECESSIONAL HYMN: BB 197 or 387

PRAYERS

PRAYER TO SAINT MICHAEL

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God,

thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help,

or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother;

to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,

but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful And kindle in them the fire of Your love

Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created And You shall renew the face of the earth

O God, Who instructed the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, Grant us in the same Spirit to be truly wise and

ever rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen

Primera Lectura

Salmo Responsorial

R. Aquí estoy, Señor, para hacer tu voluntad.

Yo esperaba con ansia al Señor:

Él se incline y escuchó mi grito;

y, en cambio, me abriste el oído;

no pides sacrificio expiatorio,

entonces yo digo: “Aquí estoy”.

R. Aquí estoy, Señor, para hacer tu voluntad.

Como está escrito en mi libro:

“para hacer tu voluntad”.

Dios mío, lo quiero,

y llevo tu ley las entrañas.

R. Aquí estoy, Señor, para hacer tu voluntad.

He proclamado tu salvación

ante la gran asamblea;

no he cerrado los labios,

sea dado a conocer a Israel”.

Y finalmente… And Finally...

(Salmo 90:12, RVR 1995)

Somos bastante buenos contando muchas cosas.

Aprendiendo a contar juntos,

Padre Gregg

Here are a few thoughts from your pastor. They may be just random interests that I would like to

share. Hopefully, you will find something of interest for you also.

Just around the corner...

It’s hard to believe. We barely finished our celebrations of Christ-

mas, and Lent is just around the corner! Keeping up with all our

celebrating can at times seem like a whirlwind!

To gain a more fruit filled perspective during this season of our

lives, the psalmist expresses to God:

Teach us to count our days aright,

that we may gain wisdom of heart. (Psalm 90:12, NABR)

We are fairly great at counting many things. However, counting the

limited days of our lives is something the psalmist tells us must be

“taught.” The arithmetic of the soul seems to be quite forgetful.

When we consider each day as a gift from God, we know how truly

fragile, short, and uncertain life is. The best life is to give our days

to the Lord who holds our eternity.

Learning to Count together,

Fr. Gregg
