Sunday Worship: 10 a.m.Holy Communion is celebrated on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Sundays of the month.

September through May:Sunday School: 10 a.m. – 3 years old through fifth grade

Adult Bible Study: Sundays 9:00 a.m.Youth Bible Study: 10 a.m. (1st & 3rd Sundays)

Dear Beloved Members and Friends,

Matthew 28: 16-20 is the appointed Gospel lesson for Trinity Sunday. Almost all English versions of the Bible contain “The Great Commission” as a heading for that Gospel reading. It is an accurate description of what is described in this Gospel reading by inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Jesus commissions His eleven disciples and His Church to make disciples of all nations by baptizing and by teaching them His Word. This commissioning of Christ is great. Our Lord gives the Great Commission to us.

Mission begins in the heart of God the Father. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) God loves all people in the world. God loves you. God demonstrated His love for the world and for you by giving Christ to the earth. God gave Jesus to live, die, rise, and ascend.

Mission expresses God’s great love for the world. God said, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving kindness.” (Jeremiah 31:3). God has loved you with an everlasting love in Christ. God drew you with loving kindness when you were baptized. Jesus came into our world to save you. Jesus saved you from your sins and from hell by His life, death, and resurrection. God made and worked His plan in your life. God chose you in Christ to be blameless and holy in His sight before He created the world. God predestined you to be adopted as His child.

God searches carefully until He finds His lost person. God rejoices with the angels in His presence over one sinner who repents. God rejoiced with His angels when you repented of your sins. God welcomes and celebrates when lost people come home. God welcomed you and celebrated when you were found.

God’s mission centers in God the Son, Jesus Christ. God the Father’s missionary plan depended on the willing cooperation of His Son. Jesus submitted Himself to His Father’s will. God the Father’s will was that Christ drink the cup of suffering and death on the cross for you.PASTOR’S LETTER Continued

Jesus is the promised Messiah sent by the Father to reconcile the world to Himself by His life, death and resurrection. God made you His friend through the death of Jesus. God saved you from your sins and from hell by the resurrection of Christ. You have received reconciliation with God through faith in our Lord Jesus. We praise and thank God for having reconciled us to Himself in Christ. You have found salvation in Jesus. Jesus is the one and only name under heaven given to you by whom you are saved.

God’s mission is empowered by God the Holy Spirit. The Father and the Son sent the Holy Spirit as the third missionary partner in God’s great plan of salvation. The Spirit was active in creation. The Counselor spoke by the prophets. The Holy Spirit revealed Himself at Jesus’ Baptism. The Spirit filled and empowered the Church on Pentecost.

The Counselor continues to enable God’s people today to confess and profess that “Jesus is Lord” to the glory of God the Father. The Comforter encourages you to confess that Jesus is your Lord. The Holy Spirit enables you to confess Jesus is Lord when you speak the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds in Divine Services. The Spirit will help you to confess that Jesus is Lord on the Last Day. The ongoing work of the Holy Spirit is vital to God’s missionary efforts. The Spirit has called, gathered, enlightened and sanctified you. The Counselor keeps you with Jesus in the one true Christian faith. The Spirit is with you and lives in you.

You received power when the Holy Spirit came on you in your Baptism. You are Christ’s witnesses in Lyon Township, in Michigan and America, and to the ends of the earth. You know the Counselor.

We share in God’s mission according to the various vocations in which He has placed us. God has placed us in our vocations, as spouse, child, parent, worker, or student. We can serve God and people in our vocations. The Holy Spirit leads and empowers us to do mission work in our vocations.

You are in the mission field now. Jesus is with you in the mission field. Let us confidently and joyfully participate in God’s mission. Let’s boldly and gladly do mission work for God.

May God bless you and your family this summer and always!

Sincerely Yours in Christ, Pastor Terry Nelson

AS WE PROVIDE FOR THE NEEDSOF OTHERS, GOD’S LOVE IS SEENIN AND THROUGH US.

Our willing obedience to Christ reveals the depth of our faith. Dietrich Bonhoeffer in his book, The Cost of Discipleship, wrote “But the Christ Whom the Scriptures proclaim is in every word He utters One Who grants faith to those only who obey Him.” He also said, “Obedience to the call of Jesus never lies within our power . . . the step into the situation where faith is possible is not an offer which we can make to Jesus but always His gracious offer to us.” Only in our obedience through faith will God reveal His full nature to us. Oswald Chambers wrote, “We may read some things in the Bible every day for a year and they may mean nothing to us. Then, because we have been obedient to God in some small detail, we suddenly see what God means and His nature is instantly opened up to us!” In order to maintain an intimate relationship with Christ, we need to rely on God’s strength so we will not disobey Him by acting or thinking in unacceptable ways. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” (Matthew 5:8)

The greatest motivating force for obedience is love and trust in the Lord that originates from God. Do our thoughts and actions reflect a love for the Lord? Rather than drifting and going through the motions of life, are we active in our service and obedience? Are we obedient in our giving? Are we faithfully responding to the needs of others? Oswald Chambers said, “The best measure of the spiritual life is not its ecstasies but its obedience.” Richard Baxter wrote:

Lord, it belongs not to my care, whether I die or live,To love and serve Thee is my share, and this Thy grace must give.If life be long, I will be glad that I may long obey;If short, yet why should I be sad to soar to endless day.

God’s Word shares the promises of special blessings for those who are faithful and obedient to the Lord. We read in Deuteronomy 11:26-28:

See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse – the blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today; the curse if you disobey the commands of your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following

other gods, which you have not known.

With a desire for obedience springing from hearts of faith, trust, and thanksgiving, we can, with God’s strength, please and obey Him.
