The proposals include a broad spectrum of high quality starter and family homes; two storey properties ranging from
two to four bedrooms. The proposed development has been designed to be in keeping with the local surroundings and
to respect the character of the area. A sample of the proposed housetypes and a typical streetscene can be seen below.
They are aimed at those on lower incomes but increasingly, those on middle range incomes are
finding it difficult to find a solution to their housing needs due to high house prices.
In most areas, an affordable rent is considerably lower than those charged on the open market
and always below the housing benefit level so that if a tenant needs further assistance and qualifies,
they can access it.
Low cost home ownership allows the occupier to buy an interest in the property. The registered
provider will hold the freehold of the property and the remaining interest.
All new affordable properties in rural areas can only be occupied by people with a local
connection to the area. This requirement will stay on the property for its lifetime and will apply
to both rented and low cost home ownership properties.

those who cannot afford private market options, offered as either affordable rent or low cost ownership.
