Nemeroff, District Secretary Travel Authorization ACTION ITEM RECOMMENDED AC'LION(S) Consider ratifying travel authorized by the Board President for Director Harper to attend the Transportation Research Board's 96thAnnual Meeting, January 8-12, 2017 in Washington, D.C. BACKG ROUND/RATIONALE After the publishing and posting of the December 14, 2016 Board meeting agenda, Director Harper indicated that he would like to attend TRB's annual conference in Washington D.C., January 8-12, 2017. Pursuant to Board Po]icy ].55, all out-of-state travel for Directors and Officers to attend a conference or a meeting related to District business and at District expense, shall be approved by action of the Board of Directors prior to incurring expenses. As the next Board meeting was scheduled to occur after the commencement of the conference, the alternative procedure provided in Board Policy 155 was implemented and travel was authorized by President Peeples. The Transportation Research Board (TRB) 96th Annual Meeting program is expected to attract 12,000 transportation professionals from around the world and covers all transportation modes, with more than 5,000 presentations in nearly 750 sessions and workshops addressing topics of interest to all attendees--policy makers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions. The spotlight theme for the 20].7 TRB Annual Meeting is Transportat/on /nnovat/on; Lead/ng the l#ay /n an Era of Rap/d Change. A number of sessions and workshops focus on this theme A sample of the program session available at the annualmeeting is provided as Attachment lto this report. Pursuant to Board Policy 155, Directors are to provide a brief orator written summary of their activities and/or information learned during the trip not later than the next Board meeting. BACKG ROUND/RATIONALE
