Previous Changes Main Firmware is updated to Version 164, Level 5Q

The LSU is changed from the LK-700 to the LK-710 due to discontinuation of the polygon motor production for the LSU by its manufacturer. As a result of this change, firmware is modified to enable you to switch the setting for old/new LSU in maintenance mode U274 (Setting the LSU type). An instruction sheet is included with the LK-710 instructing you to change the setting in maintenance mode U274 when the LK-710 is installed. Content of Modification 1. Support for LK-710

Firmware is changed so the setting in maintenance mode U274 can be set for the LK-710. (ADJUST DATA: LSU type setting 0 ~ 3) is changed to "3", (Initial setting is "2". The "0 ~ 2" setting is for the LK-700)

If the LK-710 is installed without changing the maintenance mode value, approximately 15% reduction may occur in the main scanning direction. Identifying LSU To identify the LK-700) and LK-710, check the first three (3) digits of the bar code number on the bar code label. LK-700 : GCE (First 3 digits of individual production number) LK-710: KDF (First 3 digits of individual production number)

Please upgrade each firmware (MAIN, MMI, LANGUAGE) to the latest version whenever upgrading the firmware and/or replacing the board, etc.

1. Measure for a problem that may occur as a result of Thermostat being switched switch to an OFF condition. (Adding time-out to the fixing stabilizing operation) (Problem)

If the main power is turned OFF while the thermistor temperature remains less than 110ºC and then turned back ON, the stabilization drive may keep running and the machine may not be stabilized. (A "Please wait" message remains on the message display.)

The firmware is modified so after three (3) minutes of driving, a time-out will occur. Precaution: The Fan located above the Bypass Tray pulls in the air to cool the inside of the machine. If the Fan is removed and reinstalled incorrectly it will blow air out or if it fails to operate, the surrounding temperature of Thermostat rises, causing the Thermostat to switch to an OFF condition.

Page 5: 3035-4035-5035 Firmware Bulletin R22

Check if the Fan located over the Bypass Tray is working correctly.

1. Check if air is blowing out of the machine. If so, refit the Fan to its correct orientation so air is pulled into the machine. 2. If the Fan is not rotating, please replace the Fan or inspect the connector and/or wiring.

2. Changing the amount of slack in the original at registration during the switchback in SRDF-2 in duplex mode (Measure for skewed original feed in duplex mode) The amount of slack at registration during the original switchback operation is changed to the optimum value for each size of original. Continued 4 In the Scanner function,

default cursor position is changed for letter input to change file name, etc. (Change back to original position.) [Background]

With the previous firmware upgrade (*1) to support NSI/FTP, it is changed so the cursor comes before the beginning of letter input in default as a newly added menu allows more letters to be input than before. (When the number of letters exceeds "32", the letter entry field scrolls down.)

When the screen is switched to a file name input screen to change the file name, etc, the cursor ("I") appears in front of letters that are different from the way it used to be and it is not user-friendly. The following change is carried out. Example: [[ "I" Scan001_ ]] (Modification) Original letter input menu: The cursor appears at the end of letters in default.

(Change back to the original location.) FTP/NSI related letter input menu: Basically, the cursor appears at the beginning of letters in default. (In some cases, at the end of letters.)

1 Measures for a problem where black spots might occur due to image blur (Changing the transfer "OFF" timing) Adding the maintenance mode of U129 (Setting transcription timing)

[Phenomenon] There is a possibility that black spots might occur on the copied image due to an image blur. (This phonomenon may occur in a high temperature and humidity environment after turning the power source of the machine ON when it has been OFF for a long time.) [Cause] To keep the transfer performance of the trailing edge of paper, even after the trailing edge of paper passes through the nip of transfer roller, transfer bias is in an "ON" condition. However, due to a change of resistance caused by the stains on the transfer roller, there is a possibility that the electrical discharge to drum might occur. [Change] The transfer "OFF" timing (the time from the moment the registration switch is turned off) has been changed so that the transfer bias is within the length of paper feeding.

KM-3035 325msec → 260msec KM-4035/5035 260msec → 190msec

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Notes] By the change above, there is a possibility that transfer image might be skipped or transfer misalignment might occur within the imperfect image area that is around 3mm from the trailing edge. For that reason, the following additional maintenance mode is newly added for the user that requests the previous control.

Adding the maintenance mode U129 (Setting transcription timing) • [MODE 0]: New transfer OFF timing (Default value) • [MODE 1]: Old transfer OFF timing

(Continued) 2 Measures for the

occurrence of a paper JAM in which case mixed size of originals are fed at a time using DF-71

When 2 sheets of A3 and A4 size paper is set (A4 size papers are overlaid on A3 size paper) in the auto size selection/continuous scanning mode, if the copy is started, after one sheet of A4 size paper is stocked in the middle tray, the A4 size paper is output to the eject tray. Next, although the other sheet of A4 size paper is stock in the middle tray, the A4 size paper is not ejected and remains in the middle tray. The remained A4 size paper hits against the A3 paper secondly conveyed to the middle tray and paper JAM occurs. Therefore the problem is corrected.

MAIN

3 Measures for a problem with cassette 2 when turning off/on the main switch

If the main switch is repeatedly turned off/on several times, cassette 2 might be out of order and the following phenomenon might occur. Therefore the problem is corrected. • Even if paper is stocked in cassette 2, the message of paper empty is displayed. • If the cassette 2 is selected, though the cassette is set, the message "Set cassette" is displayed.

MAIN

4 Measures for the occurrence of a paper JAM when processing 3 sheets of single-sided originals in duplex mode on KM/CS-5035

If 3 sheets of single-sided originals are processed in duplex mode using the inner finisher on a KM/CS-5035, a paper JAM81 occurs. Therefore the problem is corrected.

Item Remarks Firmware 1 Preventing the occurrence of

service call C6050 (Abnormally low fixing unit thermistor temperature) [Phenomenon] After the machine has been turned off for a long period of time, when making a copy immediately after the main switch is turned ON or just after the main switch is turned ON, service call C6050 might occur

[Cause] In which case the outside air is regarded as normal temperature (18°C or more), after approx. 20sec., the status of machine is "Ready to copy". However, if the following factors are present, fixing temperature might not rise enough and service call C6050 might be detected. • Due to the variation in the temperature/humidity sensor, despite low temperature, the sensor detects normal temperature. • Power supply voltage is low. • Heater wattage is low. [Measures] • Change in the detection temperature of service call C6050 for the ends of thermistor during copy from "100°C or less" to "80°C or less". • The change is made so that, when detecting normal temperature (18°C or more), if the temperature on both ends of thermistor is below 110°C from power source "ON" to approx. 20sec. after, the status of machine does not reach "Ready to copy" until the machine does not reach the secondary stabilization temperature. (Secondary stabilization temperature: KM-3035: 130°C, KM-4035/KM-5035: 145°C)

7 Correcting the problem that the unusual image occurs if form overlay is performed in copy mode after FAX transmission

Immediately after FAX transmission, if form overlay is performed, the image on the second page is properly processed without problems. However, the image on the first page is reduced to the one ninth of the original size. Therefore the problem is corrected.

8 Correcting the problem during open-faced original setting, if the original size 11"x17" is selected for network scanner transmission, the transmission size is processed as B5

During an open-faced original setting, the transmission size is not reduced to the half size of the original at network scanner transmission. (Example) On KME specification machine, if the 11"x17" size of open-faced original is selected for network scanner transmission, auto transmission size is processed as B5. On KMA specification machine, if the A3R size of open-faced original is selected for network scanner transmission, auto transmission size is processed as 8.5"x11" size. [Cause] So far, the reduction function above was not supported in the condition that inch size paper and metric size paper were mixed. Therefore the change is made so that the transmission size is corrected by recognizing the inch size or metric size regardless of the specification.

This time the change is made so that the fan is stopped during preheat mode. (However, after printing, the fan is rotated for 3 min. even if the machine entered preheat mode. Regarding sleep mode, the fan is stopped.)

7 Adding the maintenance mode U0971 (Setting for aging before copying)

To improve the fixing performance and prevent the occurrence of a crease on paper, when using large size paper, the aging process is performed before starting copy. By the aging process, a few seconds are required for the first copy. The first copy of large size paper takes priority on the user side, the maintenance mode U971 (Setting for aging before copying) is added so that the aging "OFF/ON" setting is available. Large size paper: A3/LDR/B4/LGL/A4R/FOL/LTR The maintenance mode U971 (Setting for aging before copying) is

available for copier and FAX only. Default value: "ON” (Aging process is performed.)

MAIN

8 Changing LSU startup timing in silent mode

In silent mode, ( polygon motor low speed rotation), when large size paper is fed after the aging process, the polygon motor is changed to high speed rotation. [Change] The change is made so that polygon motor goes to high speed rotation condition even during pre-copy aging process.

Details of changes 12 Correcting the problem of

binding direction when scanning the original with individual border erase setting

When scanning the duplex original through the DP, if the upper corner binding by the rear side alignment and right-and-left binding by the left side alignment, the position for individual border erase is changed on the upper/bottom part and right/left part. Therefore the problem is corrected.

MMI

13 Correcting the problem when setting several sizes of originals in a mixed condition and using multiple original scanning

[Phenomenon] After setting several sizes of originals, mixed condition and finished size mixed condition, set multiple original scanning, the following may occur. By using the multiple original scanning setting, if the original width size scanned in main scanning direction at the first step is different from the width size scanned in main scanning direction at the 2nd step or later, unusual image might occur at the 2nd step output. (This problem occurs at normal copy and job reservation copy only. It does not occur on network scanner.) [Change] The change is made so that only when using the multiple original scanning with several sizes of originals, mixed condition and finished size mixed condition, the scanning process for a bundle of originals is performed by using the width of leading image at each step. The change is made so that the main scanning width size for the original is renewed in the lead of each step. Also, then the original width differs from the paper width. Therefore, in the above case only, the process for correcting the paper width is added to scanner so that the paper width becomes the same as the original width.

Previous Changes Details of changes Item Remarks

1 Correcting a problem when C6050 occurs when returning to the operating status from sleep mode (C6050: Abnormally low fixing unit thermistor temperature)

[Phenomenon] C6050 Error Code may trigger. [Cause] When two or more options are installed to the copier (Fax System/Printing System/Scan System), the duration of the warm-up time is not long enough when the machine is recovering from sleep mode. If printing is performed immediately after recovering from sleep mode, the fixing unit may not reach its specified operating temperature. The result will be a detection of low fixing temperature, triggering a C6050 error code. [Measures] The return time to the operating status from sleep mode is lengthened by 10sec.

2 Preventing an increase of fixing temperature (C6020: Abnormally high fixing unit thermistor temperature)

[Phenomenon] C6020 might occur or the thermostat might open. [Cause]

1. When setting bypass feeding tray for thick paper, if a re-try is repeated at paper feeding, the temperature on the both ends of fixing section increases above the controlled temperature.

2. If main switch is repeatedly turned off/on, the temperature at the middle of fixing section increases over the controlled temperature.

[Measures] 1. The specification is changed so that the fixing temperature is decreased when

the interval of paper feeding/job process exceeds 5sec. or more. 2. The temperature control for the main heater thermistor is added to the

condition for fixing control right after turning on the power source (approx. 4sec.).

3 Correcting a problem for

printer output after the cover mode process in copy mode

In copy mode, when the last copy is a blank sheet in cover mode and transparency + lining paper (blank paper) mode, if printer output is performed, the machine may lock up. This problem is corrected. (The machine returns to ready status by pressing cancel key.)

1 Adjusting the original scanning position on DP

If old software is rewritten by new software, the setting value for the maintenance mode U067 and U072 is automatically changed to the value according to adjustment for new software.

However, if the machine is rewritten by new software and is rewritten by old software again, the setting value does not return. The setting value is changed inside of the machine, and initializing by U020 is required when new software is returned to old software.

When option DP is installed to the machine, the original scanning position might be displaced. Therefore the default value is changed in the following simulation. [Contents of changes] 1. Change the default setting value. 2. There is the possibility that adjustment range might be exceeded depending on the machine. Therefore shift the center scanning position for the adjustment range.

3 Supporting special paper setting (Letterhead support) for copy function (Adjusting print direction for single-sided or duplex copy)

<Present conditions> When printer is not installed, the selection or setting for special paper operation cannot be done. Only printer job supports special paper operation setting. <After change> The selection or setting for special paper operation can be always done. Copy job also supports the special paper operation setting as well as printer job. If the special paper setting is set as [Adjust print direction] and paper type is letterhead, preprint or pre-punched paper, when printing in single-sided copy mode, the machine operates similarly to the duplex copy mode by adding dummy white paper. (Restrictions) When setting the finishing options (staple, punch), if the paper size is not suitable for duplex copy, paper direction might not accord with image direction.

2 Addition of new simulation U956 to enable you to select old/new unit setting in compliance with the change to Conveying Unit.

As a result of an improvement to the Conveying Unit, Sim U956 is added to support the old/new Unit.

U956: Set the type of Conveying Unit You can select "New" or "Old" setting.

1. When only the firmware version is upgraded, original type of the conveying unit remains. (It is not necessary to set again.) 2. Please be aware that after executing U020 (Initialize all data), you need to change the setting to "Old" if the conveying unit is old-type as it will be initialized to "New" type. 3. If that the Conveying Unit is replaced using the new-type Unit, please change the U956 setting to "New" with this firmware.

3 Measure for a poor fixing problem in rotation sort duplex copy mode

In some cases, poor fixing may occur on the center of copy in rotation sort duplex copy mode. (Modification )

Fixing temperature setting varies between R direction and regular feed. When temperature setting is to change from high to low, it is now gradually lowered. (Lowered by 5 degrees C per 15 seconds.)

Originally, the temperature is rapidly decreased to the setting temperature by turning the heater OFF continuously. This method may cause the setting temperature at the middle section of fixing roller to become excessively low.

4 Measure for a poor fixing problem for small size paper with the 30 cpm model

The copy temperature for small size paper is changed from +20 degrees C to +25 degrees C.

U161: Setting fixing control temperature Default setting for "COPY UP TEMP(S)" is changed only for the 30 cpm model.

20 degrees C --> 25 degrees C 5 Change to T7 control

after duplex printing As a measure to prevent rear side of the paper from becoming stained, the T7 control is not performed when the duplex printing is completed. It is now performed when next simplex copying is completed.
