The National Electrical and Communications Association cordially invites you to attend the NECA 2014 Conference.

This year the conference will be held in the beautiful and historic city of Hanoi, Vietnam. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from expert speakers, network with fellow electrical contractors and industry suppliers and enjoy the culture of this unique and intriguing city.

With a comprehensive program including panel discussions featuring highly successful local contractors, safety presentations, health expertise, industry updates and optional leisure activities, this conference offers the perfect balance between work and play.

The technical program will be complemented by an exciting social program, which allows you to catch up with fellow attendees and form new business contacts. Events such as the Gala Dinner, held at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, provides the perfect backdrop to your Hanoi experience and an end to a fun filled conference.

Presenters: Johnny Brits, Legal Practice Director, NECA Legal and Wilna Fourie, Business Broker, GMO Business Sales.Johnny will provide a short overview of the general protections under the Fair Work Act and the second part of his presentation will focus on debt recovery. Wilna will discuss how to prepare your business for sale and ensure you receive maximum sale price. She will also provide insight into the current Australian trends in business sales.

Steve will address these topics based on his success and answer any queries you may have.

9.00am - 9.45am SESSION 7: A STORY OF SURVIVAL Presenter: Theo Venter, OHS Motivational Speaker.Theo’s presentation reflects on the day he suffered a severe electrical shock whilst working on live powerlines. Theo talks candidly of his three days in hospital waiting to die and his desperate fight to survive both physically and mentally, long after the event. This story is extremely hard hitting with a very personal and powerful safety message.

9.45am - 10.30am SESSION 8: SAFETY NON-NEGOTIABLES - HOW TO STAY OUT OF PRISON Presenter: Garry Itzstein, Executive Director, NECA WA.This session will highlight the non-negotiable aspects of safety and show how your business can take relatively simple steps to ensure that it has fulfilled all of its obligations. We will provide practical examples of the essential aspects of safety documents that will ensure your business is compliant...and keep you out of prison!

11.00am - 12.00pm SESSION 9: MEN’S HEALTH BELOW THE WAIST! Presenter: Gretchen Lumsden, Health Expert.Men tend to take their health and well-being for granted until they have a major problem or serious scare. PRESENTER PROFILETerry Smith Managing Director Everett-Smith & Co

Terry Smith has worked in the Electrical Industry for over 48 years and is also a qualified engineer. He partnered with John Everett in 1965 to form Everett-Smith & Co which has grown from an independent family-owned business into one of the most successful independent electrical contractors in Western Australia.

Simon Higgins CEO and Managing Director ECM

Simon joined ECM in 1997 and has been the CEO and Managing Director since 2011. Simon’s 20 years’ experience in supervisory and management positions has seen him well positioned to lead ECM’s successful transition from an E&I contractor to a leading multi-disciplined service and construction business. Simon is the President and Chairman of NECA WA and is also the Chairman of CET and EGT.

Wayne Carter Chairman Williams Electrical Service

Wayne has worked in the electrical contracting industry for 40 years and has 21 years’ experience in ownership and management of a large electrical contracting company. Wayne was initially employed by Williams Electrical as an apprentice in 1974, was promoted to Managing Director in 1995 and now sits on the board as Chairman. He is a current NECA WA board member, and has served in the past as NECA WA President, NECA National Executive Member and Chairman of EGT.

Stephen Cole Director MizCo

Stephen is one of the original founding Directors of MizCo, a company that specialises in mechanical electrical contracting, switchboard manufacture, building automation, security access CCTV and HVAC&R. Some recent projects include Gorgon Operations Envelope, Barrow Island and the Perth Transit Authority, East Perth. Stephen has been a member of NECA for 33 years and has sat on the various boards of NECA, CET and EGT in the past 25 years.

Steve Yates General Manager WAY Electrical

Steve has 31 years’ experience in the electrical construction industry, with 14 years as a senior project manager and five years as General Manager on major electrical projects in Africa, Asia and all major resource areas of Australia on electrical packages ranging in value up to $135 million.

Theo Venter OHS Motivational Speaker

Theo Venter was an electrical lines man and worked in the high voltage business for over 23 years. Now a motivational speaker, his decision to talk about safety and share his story with as many people as possible stems from a near fatal work accident which all but took his life.

Michael Plunkett Principal SmartRate

Michael is Principal of SmartRate - Building Energy Efficiency Specialists, a practising energy efficiency assessor in residential and commercial buildings. Michael also has over 30 years’ experience in the home building industry.

Gretchen Lumsden Institute of Weight and Life Management

Gretchen has 30 years’ experience in the health industry and her sessions are entertaining, lively and packed with powerful information to save lives and promote a healthy workforce.

Wilna FourieBusiness Broker GMO Business Sales

Wilna is an experienced Business Broker and has bought and sold several of her own companies. Wilna has an appreciation for the emotive as well as the financial considerations involved in the business sales process. She is skilled at accurately determining the key business model and critical driving forces of any business.

Garry Itzstein Executive Director NECA WA

Garry has worked in the electrical contracting industry for 35 years at O’Donnell Griffin, Stork Electrical and Downer. Managing between two and 1500 people, Garry has worked in an estimating capacity as well as in the areas of finance, safety, human resources and general management. Garry has served on the boards of NECA, EGT and CET and his current role as Executive Director of NECA WA involves the stewardship of these groups.

Johnny Brits Legal Practice Director NECA Legal

Johnny specialises in Workplace Relations law and has more than 20 years of legal experience. Johnny was a partner in a law firm in South Africa before moving to Perth where he worked in private practice for three years and at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA for 11 years. Johnny joined NECA Legal as Legal Practice Director in July 2013.

You will have the opportunity to learn about a selection of favourite dishes, the ability to recognise the basic ingredients used in Vietnamese food and blend the ingredients and spices together to create some delicious meals. Vietnam War Walking Tour | Duration: 2 Hours | Price: $30.00 per person Visit the Military History Museum where you will view an extensive collection of photos and remnants from the American and French Wars, along with a range of tanks, guns and aircraft. From the museum, take a short stroll to Hoa Lo Prison, also referred to as the ‘Hanoi Hilton’ by American inmates during the 1960s and early 1970s. Available Monday and Tuesday.
