Plane StressPlane Strain

Hertzberg Chapter 8.6

About Survey

This is a undergraduate level course

Solution: each undergraduate student should talk at least once in the class, either ask questions on express your thinking

Sometimes hard to follow

Solution: Ask questions. I prefer simple questions so I can easily handle.

The material is not deep enough, most of the material has already been covered in previous classes

(e.g. Strength of Materials)

Good suggestion

Too much homeworkone homework per two weeks?

Solution: reduce maximum number of problems to 4.

Explain before the homework.Lecture cover prior to the

homework

Solution: I will talk a little bit about homework in each Monday before I collect them in Wednesday.

I emphasis creativity if the problem is not covered in the class, so you do not have to follow the book.

Slides should be in more depth. Need to put more information

Good suggestion

Test should put more points available. Each part of a question missed drastically changed

the grade

Solution: more small problems?

Hard to tell the difference between stuff that is important

and stuff that isn’t

Solution: The book is comprehensive. I will teach stuff that is important and basic.

You are confused and not ready to answer our questions

Solution: I prefer easy questions so I can handle. But anyway I will prepare that answer your tough question.

Discuss on project and be definite on what to do

Solution: see detailed requirements in handout.

Too fast!

Solution: Keep ask questions, or express your understanding of the thing we are talking.

If you do not talk, I can do nothing but go forward.

A little slow

Solution: should the homework be more difficult?

A little more every class

Solution: I will try to talk on more details of the topic

Point out the assumptions and limitations of the theory

Good suggestion!
