Page Two Church of the Good Shepherd December 29, 2019 I really admire those people who decided to get married and receive the Sacrament of Marriage because it is not easy to raise a family nowadays: handling the relation-ships between husbands and wives, parents and children, emotional and financial aspects and supports of their chil-dren in the midst of poverty, underemployment, sexual permissiveness, depiction of violence and pornography cause numerous crises among family members. Today we are celebrating the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. We are celebrating this feast on Sunday after Christmas by which we give honor and re-spect to a family whose lives are our role models espe-cially for these times of ours by which the family is in danger in and out. When Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary two thousand years ago, he was born into the reality of the family. In this manner Christ sanctified the family home. Since then the Holy Family, formed by Jesus, Mary and Joseph, has been a model that all families should emulate. Hu-man families should frequently read about the Holy Fam-ily and follow the example of life that they led in the love of God. In the family of Nazareth there was respect, a spirit of helping each other out and, of course, there was love. These are the qualities that Christians who want to form a family should try to emulate. The members of any fami-ly who want to lead a life that follows this example should always remember that it is the parents who are the first, and the most important, educators of their children. Children should be educated in all things they need to know to live a life as sensible people. But among all the things that are important for them to learn they need to be educated in our Catholic faith. We should ask ourselves often: What are we doing to shape our family? Are we doing all that we can to make our home the happiest home possible? Are we helping each other out so that the lives of our children will be the easiest and happiest pos-sible? Presence and love of God in the home is important in the Christian family. If we follow the example of the family of Nazareth we will learn how to form a family that knows and follows the gospel example. When God the Father sent His Son into the world, He willed that His Son be born into a human family, though not perfect. God willed that the family that Jesus would embrace be a family of love because He is love. In this sense Jesus grew up in Nazareth with Mary and Joseph. They are poor but loving family, observant of the religious tradi-tions of the Jewish people. May every father be like St. Joseph, every mother be like Mama Mary, every child be like Jesus and every family be like the Holy Family. Let our families be a loving and prayerful family for ‘the family that prays together, stays together.’ A Blessed Christmas and a Grace-filled New Year!

MARRIAGE CONVALIDATION OPPORTUNITY

Dear All Civilly Married Couples:

You may have chosen not to marry in the Church because of family issues or timing or concerns about cost or other reasons, and now hesitate to have your marriage convalidated (sacramentally recognized by the Church) because of similar worries about cost or time. WORRY NO MORE! IT IS FREE NOW.

We are going to have a group marriage convalida-tion here in our church on August 15 (Feast of the Assumption) at 11am.

To prepare for this celebration, we will have an “in house” marriage preparation session which will take place on March 7th from 9am to 3pm.

Admiro mucho a aquellas personas que decidieron casarse y recibir el Sacramento del Matrimonio porque no es fácil criar una familia hoy en día: manejar las relaciones entre maridos y esposas, padres e hijos, los aspec-tos emocionales y financieros y tal vez apoyando a sus hijos en medio de la pobreza, el subempleo, la permisividad sexual, la representación de la violencia y la pornografía causan numerosas crisis entre los miembros de la familia.

Hoy celebramos la Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia de Jesús, María y José. Celebramos esta fiesta el Domingo después de Navidad por lo que damos honor y respeto a una familia cuyas vidas son nuestros modelos a seguir especialmente para estos tiempos nuestros por los que la familia está en peligro dentro de la casa y fuera de ella.

Cuando Jesús nació de la Virgen María hace dos mil años, nació en la realidad de la familia. De esta manera Cristo santificó el hogar familiar. Desde entonces, la Sagrada Familia, formada por Jesús, María y José, ha sido un modelo que todas las familias deben emular. Las familias humanas deben leer con frecuencia acerca de la Sagrada Familia y seguir el ejemplo de la vida que llevaron en el amor de Dios.

En la familia de Nazaret había respeto, un espíritu de ayudarse unos a otros y, por supuesto, había amor. Estas son las cualidades que los Cristianos que quieren formar una familia deben tratar de emular. Los miembros de cualquier familia que quieran llevar una vida que siga este ejemplo siempre deben recordar que son los padres los primeros educadores de sus hijos y los más importantes. Los niños deben ser educados en todas las cosas que necesitan saber para vivir una vida como personas sensatas. Pero entre todas las cosas que son im-portantes para que aprendan necesitan ser educados en nuestra fe Católica. ¿Estamos haciendo todo lo que po-demos para hacer de nuestro hogar el hogar más feliz posible? ¿Nos estamos ayudando mutuamente para que la vida de nuestros hijos sea la más fácil y feliz posible?

La presencia y el amor de Dios en el hogar es importante en la familia Cristiana. Si seguimos el ejemplo de la familia Nazareth, aprenderemos cómo formar una familia que conozca y siga el ejemplo del Evangelio. Cuan-do Dios Padre envió a Su Hijo al mundo, quizo que Su Hijo naciera en una familia humana, no perfecta. Dios quería que la familia que recibiera a Jesús abrazara ser una familia de amor porque El es amor. En este senti-do, Jesús creció en Nazaret con María y José. Era una familia pobre pero amorosa, observadora de las tradi-ciones religiosas del pueblo Judío.

Que cada padre sea como San José, toda madre sea como Mamá María, cada niño sea como Jesús y cada fa-milia sea como la Sagrada Familia. Que nuestras familias sean una familia amorosa y orante porque 'la familia que reza junta, permanece unida'.
