Rally Spain

Motorsport Information

PocketFacts

In 2005, Rally Spain was held at the Costa Dau-rada for the first time becoming the only mixed surface event in the calendar. Earlier, the event was located at the Costa Brava.

On Friday, the drivers

have to cover 115.90

kilometres against the

clock, 88.75 per cent of

it on gravel. The stages

on Thursday, Saturday

and Sunday will be held

on asphalt only.

Rally Spain Statistics

In 2015, Andreas Mikkelsen clinched his first ever WRC

win at Rally Spain after being in 2nd place for most of the

event. The leader Sébastien Ogier made a mistake on the

final stretch of the Powerstage allowing

Mikkelsen to move up into 1st in dramatic style.

Sébastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala finished the 2013 edition of Rally Spain 1st

and 2nd for Volkswagen. It was not only an impressive victory for the manufacturer from Wolfsburg, the team also clinched its first manufacturer’s title at the Costa Daurada with one rally still to go.

Just before the finish line of the Duesaigües stage (Powerstage), the WRC drivers have to take a roundabout and make a complete (compulsory) 360° donut in front of thousands of enthusiastic fans. If they fail to do so, they will be applied with a penalty of 30 seconds.

After SS 7 on Friday, the Terra Alta 2 stage,

the mechanics have just 75 minutes to convert the entire chassis from gravel

to asphalt specification as the stages on Saturday and Sunday will largely be

held on asphalt.
