3D printed organs are organs printed from a 3D printer. The main use of 3D
printed organs are for transplantations. 3D printing organs allow for a layer y
layer construction of the particular organ to create a scaffold for the cells. The
cells are then piped into the scaffold and allowed to grow to produce tissue.
!fter the organ has grown" the gel with was used to create the scaffold is
cooled and remo#ed" lea#ing ehind a fully function ale organ.
The ad#antages of ha#ing 3D printed organs is that there will e a shorter
waiting period for transplants in most cases" increasing the chance of sur#i#al.
!nother ad#antage of 3D organ printing is organs will e more easily accessile.
The disad#antages of ha#ing 3D printed organs are that it is e$pensi#e to ma%e
as it is a fairly new piece of technology. !nother disad#antage of 3D printed
organs is that the cells are limited and can go off &uic%ly" reducing the amount
of time there is in printing an organ.
