Introduction Thank you for purchasing the 3G‐TPG, the worlds first low‐cost 3G/HD/SD‐SDI Test Pattern Generator. We designed this generator due to:

1. The limited 3G‐SDI test equipment available 2. The high cost and limited functionality of the equipment that was available

This generator has undergone almost two years of extensive testing, by various Professional Engineers in the broadcast and post‐production industry, who we would like to thank. This product was designed by Engineers for Engineers. We ourselves use this generator to test all of our products during development and manufacturing. Please note that this product was designed and manufactured in Australia by REDBYTE DESIGN PTY LTD. In the past this product has been re‐branded under various names. If you have purchased one of these units, please contact your nearest Dealer to find out if it is possible to upgrade the latest version.

Colour LCD is used to display the current active test pattern and the current menu.

Menu Window

Parameter Window

The ENTER button will select the current MENU or toggle parameters.

The BACK button will leave the current SUB‐MENU.

Pressing the > button will move the cursor right.

Pressing the < button will move the cursor left.

Main Menus Upon power up the unit will start in the Main Menu pointing to FORMAT. The Main Menus are FORMAT, PATTERN, AUDIO, TEXT and SETUP. Press the < and > buttons to move left or right through the menus. To enter into a menu press the ENTER button. Note 1, you can always return to the Main Menu by pressing the BACK button twice. Note 2, as you move through the menus changing parameters they will be instantly applied to the output signal. The operation of the Main Menus is described below: FORMAT: (Has SUB‐MENU with parameter) This is the currently selected video output format. When selected in the Menu Window, the FORMAT is displayed in the Parameter Window. When highlighted, press the ENTER button to enter this sub‐menu. Press the < and > buttons to move left or right through the 26 video formats listed below and the BACK button to leave this SUB‐MENU.

PATTERN: (Has SUB‐MENU with parameter) This is the currently selected test pattern. When selected in the Menu Window, the PATTERN is displayed in the Parameter Window. When highlighted, press the ENTER button to enter this sub‐menu. Press the < and > buttons to move left or right through the 54 test patterns listed below and the BACK button to leave this SUB‐MENU.

AUDIO: (Has SUB‐MENUs) When highlighted in the Menu Window, press the ENTER button to enter this sub‐menu. Press the < and > buttons to move left or right respectively through the six menus below and press the BACK button to go back to the Main Menu when finished. 1. AUDIO/Selected Pair (Parameter) This is the currently selected stereo audio pair. When highlighted in the Menu Window, the Selected Pair is displayed in the Parameter Window. Press the ENTER button to toggle through the following pairs:

a) Group 1, Pair 1 b) Group 1, Pair 2 c) Group 2, Pair 1 d) Group 2, Pair 2 e) Group 3, Pair 1 f) Group 3, Pair 2 g) Group 4, Pair 1 h) Group 4, Pair 2

2. AUDIO/Enable (Parameter) This enables the tone generator for the current pair. When highlighted in the Menu Window, the Enable status will be displayed in the Parameter Window. Press the ENTER button to toggle the ON/OFF status of the currently selected pair. 3. AUDIO/Frequency (Has SUB‐MENU with parameter) This is the audio tone frequency in Hz (cycles per second) for the currently selected pair. When selected in the Menu Window, the Frequency is displayed in the Parameter Window. When highlighted in the Menu Window, press the ENTER button to enter this sub‐menu. The frequency can then be decreased using the < BUTTON or increased using the > BUTTON, in the inclusive range of 1 to 20,000Hz in Frequency Steps. Press the BACK button to leave this SUB‐MENU. 4. AUDIO/Frequency Step (Parameter) This is the amount the frequency is increased or decreased by, when using the previous menu. When highlighted in the Menu Window, the Frequency Step will be displayed in the Parameter Window. Press the ENTER button to toggle between Frequency Steps of 1Hz, 10Hz, 100Hz and 1000Hz. 5. AUDIO/Amplitude (Has SUB‐MENU with parameter) This is the tone amplitude for the currently selected pair. When selected in the Menu Window, the Amplitude in dBFS is displayed in the Parameter Window. When highlighted, press the ENTER button to enter this sub‐menu. The frequency can then be increased using the < BUTTON or decreased using the > BUTTON, in the inclusive range of 0dBFS to ‐100dBFS in steps of 1dBFS. Press the BACK button to leave this SUB‐MENU.

6. AUDIO/Type (Parameter) This is the type of tone for current pair. When highlighted in the Menu Window, the Type is displayed in the Parameter Window. Press the ENTER button to toggle through the following types:

a) Both Unbroken b) Broken Left c) Broken Right d) Both Broken

TEXT: (Has SUB‐MENUs) When highlighted in the Menu Window, press the ENTER button to enter this sub‐menu. Press the < and > buttons to move left or right respectively through the four menus below and press the BACK button to go back to the Main Menu when finished. 1. TEXT/Enable (Parameter) This enables the on‐screen text generator. Up to 20 characters can be displayed at the bottom of the screen, inside the SAFE‐TITLE area. When highlighted in the Menu Window, the Enable status will be displayed in the Parameter Window. Press the ENTER button to toggle the ON/OFF status of the on‐screen text generator. 2. TEXT/Foreground (Parameter) This is the foreground colour of the on‐screen text. When highlighted in the Menu Window, the Foreground is displayed in the Parameter Window. Press the ENTER button to toggle to through the various colours. 3. TEXT/Background (Parameter) This is the background colour of the on‐screen text. When highlighted in the Menu Window, the Background is displayed in the Parameter Window. Press the ENTER button to toggle to through the various colours. 4. TEXT/Characters (Has SUB‐MENU with parameter) This is the 20 characters of text to display. When selected in the Menu Window, the Characters are displayed in the Parameter Window. When highlighted in the Menu Window, press the ENTER button to enter this sub‐menu. Move the cursor left or right by pressing the < or > BUTTON respectively. Press the ENTER button to toggle the current highlighted character. Press the BACK button to leave this SUB‐MENU.

SETUP: (Has SUB‐MENUs) When highlighted in the Menu Window, press the ENTER button to enter this sub‐menu. Press the < and > buttons to move left or right respectively through the three menus below and press the BACK button to go back to the Main Menu when finished. 1. SETUP/POWER OFF TIME (Has SUB‐MENU with parameter) This indicates how long the device will remain running on Batteries when left idle by the user, before entering low‐power mode. When selected in the Menu Window, POWER OFF TIME is displayed in the Parameter Window. Use the < and > buttons to move left or right through the following power off times listed below and the BACK button to leave this SUB‐MENU.

a) 5 minutes b) 10 minutes c) 15 minutes d) 20 minutes e) 30 minutes f) 45 minutes g) 60 minutes h) NEVER

2. SETUP/LOAD DEFAULTS (PARAMETER) When highlighted in the Menu Window, press the ENTER button to load the default settings. The device will be reset to the Main Menu FORMAT. Please note this will note save them to memory. 3. SETUP/SAVE SETTINGS (PARAMETER) When highlighted in the Menu Window, press the ENTER button to save the current settings to memory. The device will be reset to the Main Menu FORMAT.
