Rayat Shikshan Sanstha’s Yashavantrao Chavan Institute of Science, Satara One Day workshop on Industry –Institute Interface Meet 3 rd Nov 2015 Report Higher education institutes and industry both have been operating in separate domain for a long time. Globalization has changed the scenario completely. Educational institutes and industry are rapidly moving closer to each other to create synergies. The interaction between industry and institution is essential as it can provide inputs for syllabus framing to meet the needs of industry and economy, better teaching- learning process, creates awareness among the students about environment of industry and practical knowledge to students. This can even boost self confidence of the student to become an entrepreneur. To achieve this, it is necessary to provide a good bridge between industry and the higher education institute. Realizing this, Yashavantrao Chavan Institute of Science, Satara organized Institute – Industry Interface Meet on 3 rd Nov 2015. The Interface Meet started with the welcome and felicitation of the Industrialists. Altogether 22 Industrialists from Satara, Shirval, Khandala and Pune actively participated in the Meet. Following industrialists and Faculty members actively participated in the Meet and gave valuable inputs : Mr. Vasantrao Phadatare, Kavitsu Group of Industries, Mr. Dnyanesh Palekar, Palekar Industries, Mr. B.S. Shinde, Mr. Bhalchandra Joshi, Champala Industries, Mr. Rajendra Ranade, Pecock Industries, Mr. Rajesh Chopra, R. R. Insulator, Mr. Parag Katdare, Katadare Industries, Mr. P.B. Khanvilkar, Softgrip, Pune, Mr. S. P. Chavan, Associate Capsule, Mr. Vaibhav Dangare, Hindusthan Feeds, Mr. Ajit Bartakke, ElectroFab, Mr. Sharad Misal, Misal Investment, Firoj Sutar, Sujit Jagadane, Sunayaina Chavan and other representatives of various industries made valuable suggestions.

Dr. N. A. Ghanvat, Dr. H. V. Deshmukh, Mr. G. N. Mujawar and all the heads of

departments were present for the meet.

In the introductory speech, Hon. Principal Dr. K. G. Kanade explained the objectives of

the Meet. He mentioned about the Institute’s fifty years glorious tradition of imparting quality

science education. The Institute has many awards such as Best College Award by Rayat Shikshan

Sanstha, Satara, College with Potential for Excellence by UGC, New Delhi, and ISO-9000

certification. It has received funding through various schemes such as DBT’s Star College Scheme,

DST Fist, Major –Minor Research Grants etc. The Institute is following the footsteps of

Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil by providing quality higher education in science to the students.

To keep pace with the time, the Institute started new B.Sc. courses in Forensic Science,

Animation Science, Computer Science, Nano technology and Nano Science. He further pointed out

that, the institute has taken a step towards autonomy. Autonomous status will certainly provide

academic flexibility and in turn it will help to improve the quality of higher education. To achieve

this, he appealed all the industrialists that institute and industry should join hands.

President of the Meet Hon. Dr. Anil Patil, Chairman, Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara, in his

presidential address emphasized the fact that education has become an industry and to make our

students employable there is a need to reform the curriculum as per the needs of industry and the

market. He also appealed the industrialists to create a training opportunity for the college students.

He also referred to the MoUs signed between various industries such as Tata Consultancy Services

, Wipro, Infosys, Lupin Private Ltd. Etc., to create employment opportunities for the students.

Hon. Principal, Dr. Ganesh Thakur, Secretary , Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara underlined

the need of institute –industry interaction to bring quality in higher education. He also put on

records Rayat Shikshan Sanstha’s efforts such as computer education at school level, various

programs covering all aspects of soft skills development etc to make the students more

employable. He also appealed the industrialists to suggest the changes in syllabus to make our

college students more employable.

In response to the appeal made by the Principal Hon. Dr. K. G. Kanade, the Industrialists

put forth the following suggestions:

• Knowledge of English, communication skills.

• Soft skills, Personality development, aptitude, critical thinking

• Presentation skills, leadership

• Development of reading skills

• Motivation

• Students should raise questions

• Proper Teacher student ratio

• Conceptual clarity

• Library should be open for 24 hours.

• Continuous assessment of the students throughout the year through projects, seminars,

research papers.

• Culture in the organization

• Work ethics

• Quality control related training program

• Entrepreneurship development program

• Course on behavioral science

• Customized training

• Courses on financial and investment management, Food Tasting etc.

• College labs should start consultancy to industries

• Course on industrial safety

• Curriculum should be prepared as per the need of the industry and the market

• Practical knowledge should be provided

• Exposure to the students

• Staff exchange between industry and institute

• Industry case study

• SWOT analysis of every student

• Self employment
