health of mind and body”.
For our recently deceased family, friends and community

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
For the weekend of this bulletin I will be in the Holy Land. I
carry with me the parish lists with all the names of
parishioners. I hope at least once to read over the lists and
pray for everyone by name. I hope to let you know at which
holy site I got to accomplish this task.
Starting with the saints amid the ministry of our Lord
himself, let me speak of some specific saints whose examples
have inspired me lately. The examples of the saints are as
much needed now as ever.
Joseph of Arimathea, and Mary the sister of Martha, both
“wasted” things of extreme value to honor Jesus, when
others would definitely have gone with a “cheaper” option.
(In the one case a rock-hewn tomb, in the other, spikenard
oil). In this regard I think of our church sanctuaries. Let us
use our resources to make dignified “temples” for the
Eucharistic sacrifice, revealing to individuals and families
the divine nature of the sacraments.
Saints James and John, the Sons of Zebedee, stepped away
from their father’s business to follow Jesus. They left their
gainful employment and risked their livelihood on some
bold new initiative, not sure if it was a “sustainable” project.
So also, we should not be concerned with the prospects of
outward “success,” when all we really mean by that word is
the boastful impression of being acclaimed by others.
St. Matthew and Mary Magdalene show in a certain way the
example of being “servant of all.” They disregarded all past
and present opinions about their own personalities. They set
about a new vocation with Christ and in Christ. He was their
confidence and their inspiration.
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton had to disregard social exclusion
and accept nearly extreme poverty to start her Catholic
teaching career and her order of sisters. Yet it was her love
for the Eucharist, and her conviction of Christ’s presence
there that sustained her.
Maybe my random list of saints this week has no one who
stands out to you. Maybe none of their patronages seem
connected to you. Still, let us invoke some of their prayers by
asking “all the holy angels and saints” to pray for us. Our
patrons do pray for us. We do need their examples to
enlighten our choices before us.
Let us also pray for each other in this upcoming week.
Sincerely, in Christ, with Mary, Fr. Timothy Naples

Come Help Us Fill the Gaps
Vermont Catholic Charities is holding a “Vermonters Helping
Vermonters” event on June 5th at St. Michael’s College. The
event will feature tastings from Vermont breweries and
wineries, food catered by the Old Lantern Inn, and live music
will be provided by the Guitar Chant Trio. Companies
participating include Mill River Brewing, Queen City Brewery,
Harpoon Brewery, Farnham Ale & Lager, and North Branch
Winery. Proceeds from the event will help Vermont Catholic
Charities continue to fill the gaps for the most vulnerable
Vermonters. By attending you will help emergency aid clients
like “Kira”. Kira was a single mom working full-time and
trying to make ends meet, when her hours were cut. She got
behind on her rent and faced an eviction. Vermont Catholic
Charities helped with rent so she could stay in her home. To

We fill the gaps no one else can.“John” is a dad of two children; one has special needs. John works full-time, but makes too much money marginally to qualify for any services like Section 8, food stamps, etc. We helped John with a utility bill and food cards.
In January, “Valerie” called with an emergency. She was running out of propane and was afraid that she and her two daughters could not stay in their apartment without heat due to the severity of the weather. We paid for a delivery of propane to keep the heat on.
“Kira” is a single mom working full-time and trying to make ends meet, when her hours were cut. She got behind on her rent and faced eviction. We helped with rent so she could stay in her home.
