Project Name: Geothermal Water System User RecognitionPublic Awareness Project

New or Continuing: New

Year Project Initiated: 2007Project Description:

Project Objectives:· To create public awareness of and pride in Boise's Geothermal Water System· To provide permanent, desirable recognition on buildings that utilize this renewable energy system· To encourage future building developers/owners to use the system

PHASE 1An artist’s design for permanent, public recognition on buildings that use Boise City Geothermal HeatingDistrict will be selected. Suggestion for text on artwork:

a renewable energy resource.PROCESS:

RFQ: BCAC will release an RFQ targeted at professional Idaho designers and artists. Applicants will submitslides and/or printed material of past design/artwork, a resume and letter of interest.

FINALISTS DESIGN PROCESS: Based on the quality of the design work submitted, the Selection Panelwill choose three artists to contract with to design fully developed proposals. In preparation of the designwork, artists will be asked to consider historical information about the geothermal system, talk to buildingowners that use the system and facilities management company representatives who care for geothermallyheated buildings. Finalists will deliver a drawing or/and model of the design (including form, associatedimagery, and integrated text), proposed budget (will vary per artist depending on size/design/material choic-es), and artist statement addressing proposed material, fabrication, installation and artist’s intent.

A special reception will beheld for geothermal building owners/managers to see the proposals, meet the artists, and heighten awarenessof the CCDC study of the geothermal system. BCAC & CCDC staff will be available to make presentations toDBA, Chamber of Commerce, Rotaries, Smart City Groups or other public entities to promote awarenessabout the geothermal system.
