SEPTEMBER 2015 I Volume XLX I No. 9

If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.

- Henry Ford

Thought forthe month

Needless to say, Onam was a special time in Kochi Refinery that brought all of us together.

Onam feast for over 16,000 people who are shaping the Integrated Refinery Expansion Project was indeed special in annals of Indian industry. The sheer logistics and efforts taken to serve the labour community, contractors and other stakeholders of IREP brought lots of accolades to us from media and the general public.

Then of course our Kochi Refinery Cooperative Society employees prepared Onasadhya for all of us. Served in the plantain leaf with all the traditional dishes, it has left behind a special taste that lingers in our tongues.

The individual celebrations in the departments and sections had the real spirit of Onam. Colleagues came together and shaped the Pookalam. They called up friends from other areas for the celebrations in which they served payasams and different kinds of chips. Sections competed with each other to make the celebrations special.

The various competitions put forth by the HR department also got overwhelming response.

This issue of JwalaDhwani is primarily an effort to cover all the Onam celebrations in Kochi Refinery. If at all we miss some since we have to finish the designing of this JwalaDhwani by the time of the culmination of the season, we shall cover the rest in the coming issue.

Looking back through the celebrations, we could feel that the enduring theme has been our togetherness and unity. Let us keep this spirit of camaraderie all through the days to come.

Organic farming, green roofs, waste management, etc is the popular trend nowadays. However, for Mr Mohan Chandran KC of IS department, there’s nothing new about it. It’s been part of him since his childhood.

Plants, trees, cows, hens, birds etc were part of his childhood in his ancestral farm home in Vyttila. The youngster had imbibed interest in agriculture from his uncles. Later on, while building his own house in Tripunithura he had to experiment on innovative methods of farming to suit the limited space. This helped Mr Mohan Chandran to acquire vast knowledge in organic farming and waste management which led him to be a faculty in many a seminar on the topic. He has also been the founder of the Residents’ Associations in Tripunithura and has educated many families in the area on proper waste management and farming.

It is no wonder that you cannot find an inch of land without greenery in his yard. The available land is overflowing with vegetation. Mr Mohan Chandran has also an equally flourishing terrace garden. One can see fruit bearing trees growing in bins and sacks.

“When you have the resource to grow your own vegetables, why do you have to go and buy vegetables grown with pesticides? Whatever we get from our own garden is good for our family’s health,” says Mr Mohan Chandran. Mrs Ani Mohan is happy to pick fresh vegetables from the yard for cooking. “We have a lot to learn from Nature,” says Keerthy and Sivakiran, their children.

Pot compost, Vermi compost and sack compost methods are used in his garden. No waste can be completely decomposed by one method. Hence for the proper and complete decomposition of the kitchen/garden waste, he uses all the 4 methods of compost which is providing manure for the rich vegetation around. The family spends just half an hour daily in taking care of the plants.

Once you understand the needs of the plant, they grow well. To serve you better …

You will experience opportunities for solid achievements and recognition. Not the best time to be making major decisions or signing contracts. Although a challenging eclipse because of overly emotional reactions, if offers the chance to make a positive transformation. Wealth accumulation is another feature of this bountiful transit.

There should be many opportunities to increase your levels of happiness and satisfaction in life. Although many others will struggle to balance extremes in belief and behavior, you should have no such problems and find it easy to make big gains, without being selfish or lowering your high standards.

This is not a good time for starting new projects as there will simply be too much resistance. In general, you can expect a greater focus on your home and family life, with a particular emphasis on intimate relationships. You should find you pay more attention to home and family, with a greater emphasis on your intimate relationships.

This month will be a fortunate period, making is possible for you to turn your hopes and dreams into reality. A spiritually uplifting and lucky start to the month. Any emotional friction in existing relationships will benefit from strongly passionate desires. You will be wanting to chance your luck and experience bigger and better things.

Good communication and judgement skills favor doing business, from buying and selling to contract negotiations. New romance is possible but there may be some initial tension involving relationship dynamics. You will feel the push and pull tension strongly.

You are more open to deception and scandal, so must learn to moderate the exuberance and tendency toward excessive or compulsive behaviors. It is in your interest however, to take a more conservative approach so you don’t get tangled up in a scandal or put your money into risky schemes.

This is a lucky streak which brings increasing happiness and satisfaction. Clarity of thought and good judgement make this the ideal time for making plans, scheduling appointments and entering into negotiations. Attending to business matters is not so favorable.

There will be opportunities to see your dreams turn into reality, without necessarily sacrificing your material needs. You can take the initiative and start projects with a high probability of success. you will need to make an extra effort to show more affection and be patience with loved ones.

An increase in your daily interactions with others will give valuable feedback. There will be greater focus at home, with family members and especially your most intimate relationships. This is an excellent time for thinking about new goals to set for the months ahead. There will be greater ease in achieving your goals so aim high.

Some effort is required to make this happen, and the full moon provides the nudge you need to force you out of your comfort zone. This time however, the discomfort will be more emotional in nature and felt at home, with family and close friends. Promotion at work and taking on more of a leadership role are possible.

You may act as a mentor, and will also receive sound advice from superiors and elders. Now all of you can benefit from the advancement and recognition resulting from your hard work over recent years. You are more inclined to take risks in chasing your passionate desires than usual, and get away with it.

Anger and frustration are likely as other people stand in your way or directly oppose your will. You have to choose your battles carefully, and perhaps a tactical retreat is better in the long run. This limiting and sometimes depressing influence makes a defensive approach this month all the more important.
