Greetings and a warm welcome in advance to those Institute of Travel and Tourism Members travelling to Sicily for the ITT Conference 2018.

It is a pleasure and an

honour for ENIT, the Italian

National Tourist Board, to support the Conference for

two consecutive years. The annual event is incredibly

important for the sector, with delegates representing all

aspects of travel and tourism. The Conference not only

promises a full and busy business programme featuring

illustrious speakers of the highest quality from inside

and outside the travel world but also great networking

opportunities.

But this is also an opportunity for us to promote the

natural, cultural and artistic heritage of our country to

you, our distinguished guests. I very much hope that

you will take the opportunity to enjoy excursions to the

extraordinary treasures that this most remarkable region

boasts. From Giardini Naxos itself to Taormina, from

Catania to Mount Etna and more, Sicily is a jewel of a

region that it is still fairly unknown to the UK market.

We are looking forward to sharing these unique

experiences with you while you are here in Italy with us.

I wish you a successful and rewarding Conference.

Giovanni Bastianelli Executive Director Italian National Tourist Board

JOIN US IN SICILY!

I am delighted that we are returning to Italy for this year’s ITT Conference, which will take place on the eastern coast of Sicily.

For many reasons, our friends on the island

might not agree when I say that we are

‘returning’ to Italy, as a large percentage

of the population consider themselves to

be Sicilian rather than Italian. It’s a nation

not only set apart from the mainland by water, but also by politics and a

language that’s unique to the region.

I would like to thank our Partners at the Hilton Giardini Naxos,

our home-from-home for what’s set to be yet another unforgettable

Conference.

We have some superb speakers lined up for the conference sessions.

With Tim Hames returning as moderator, these include Lord Adonis;

John Bevan, Chief Executive Officer B2B Europe, dnata Travel;

Sir David Michels, former Executive President Hilton Worldwide; and

Gianni Onorato, CEO, MSC Cruises, to name but a few.

We limit delegate numbers to 400 to maintain the networking opportunities

that are the lifeblood of all ITT Conferences. After last year’s successful

event in Sorrento, it’s sure to be a sell-out!

ITT is a not-for-profit organisation that relies heavily on the support of its

sponsors. I’d like to thank all of our sponsors for their support and for

making the Conference possible.

Finally, many thanks to you for your continued support. If the location for

the 2017 G7 summit was good enough for Macron, Merkel and May, I’m

confident that Sicily will be good enough for us!

Dr Steven Freudmann F.Inst.TT. Chairman ITT

The ITT Conference is the travel industry’s Blue Riband event and takes place in a different destination each year. The event is attended by the many senior figures from across the UK travel and tourism industry who are Members of the Institute.

Who Attends?

The event is exclusively for ITT Members with delegate numbers capped at 400 to ensure the Conference provides the best networking environment. Members may attend with their partner/spouse and a few spaces may be made available to non-members, if space permits four weeks prior to the event.

ITT’s Members span the entire spectrum of the travel and tourism industry, from tour operators and travel agents through to airlines, hoteliers, tourist offices, travel insurance, finance, marketing and PR specialists, as well as those involved in tourism education and training.

Format

Delegates will enjoy a terrific blend of conference sessions, social activities and networking opportunities at the Conference. The event takes place over three days and includes a party followed by a late night bar on all three evenings; two mornings of conference sessions; and plenty of free time to network with fellow delegates or explore the local area during the afternoon.

The Conference sessions will feature speakers from inside and outside the travel industry. Speakers are chosen for the diverse experience and insights they can share with ITT’s Members.

The Conference Destination

The 2018 Conference will be held in Giardini Naxos, a picturesque town on the eastern coast of Sicily that’s famed for its history, art and culture.

With a population of just over 9,000, the town dates back to 734 BC, when the ancient Greeks founded one of the first colonies in Italy and named it after the island of Naxos in the Aegean Sea. It was later renamed Giardini after the citrus gardens in the region, with Naxos re-added in 1978 to honour the town’s cultural heritage.

Once a quiet fishing village and now a popular destination among local and international holidaymakers, the bustling coastal town offers fantastic beaches and panoramic views of nearby Taormina and over to the mainland. In summer, the town is still buzzing with life after midnight with bars and restaurants staying open until late.

An exclusive hotel, the Hilton Giardini Naxos is located just 40 minutes from Catania Vincenzo Bellini Airport. Decorated in a classical Italian style, the Conference hotel will offer delegates Sicilian elegance, warm hospitality and modern amenities.
