Box 1578, M Exploring Addiction: Local Filmmaker Sheds Light On Crisis BY JILL NOSSA [email protected] B ehind every addiction lies a complex and unique story. Glen Cove filmmaker Christian Pinglo explores this important issue in his latest film, Sometimes, We Never Really Change, which will be screening at the Long Island International Film Expo on July 15. “I had the opportunity to meet with a few recovering addicts and hear their stories,” said Pinglo, who has written and directed multiple shorts over the last five years. “It provided me with a completely new perspective on this disease.” A 2009 graduate of Glen Cove High School, Pinglo said part of his interest in the topic stemmed from the alarm- ing number of his peers who have battled with opioid addiction, many of whom have died. “I think that in Glen Cove, every resident has probably either been affected by this crisis personally or knows someone who has,” said Pinglo. “This film allows people to see it in a more personal way.” During his observations, Pinglo said he became fascinated by the individual stories he heard. “The root causes which led to addiction were similar, but each path towards recovery was unique,” said Pinglo. “Relapses, complex relation- ships, support, no support, a roll- er-coaster of visceral emotions—this is when I came to the realization that I could only understand their struggle up to a certain point, because if you’ve never experienced addiction, you’ll never be able to fully comprehend the difficulty of it.” The film premiered at the Soho International Film Festival on June 22, which Pinglo said was a thrilling experience. “It was exciting to premiere in New York City,” he said, noting that the competition is tough, so being accepted into the festival is a big deal: the acceptance rate for new filmmakers is typically 15 percent. Furthermore, he said the message of the film is an important one for the area, as a lot of people are struggling with opioid addiction in New York City. “Whatever prior connotations you have with addiction, it’s a universal problem that can happen to any one, at any time,” said Pinglo. “My hope is that the film will help people be less affected by it. What I have learned throughout this process from all of the beautiful people I’ve met, is that it is up to us, the individual, to make our own decisions in order to experience the necessary positive change that will allow us to flourish, even when it may be the loneliest road of the human experience. The eight-minute film will be shown on Monday, July 15, at 3:45 p.m. at the Bellmore Movies and Showplace, 222 Pettit Ave., Bellmore. GREENBERG, MD, FACS If you wish to significantly reduce cellulite any- where on your body, Cellulaze™ can help you achieve a smooth, rejuvenated skin texture. Dr. Stephen T. Greenberg can help you over- come cellulite with Cellulaze™, a new treatment that targets cellulite at its source, which lies be- low the skin. Using fiber optic laser technology, this procedure reduces the dimpling effect of cellulite while stimulating collagen production for a thicker, smoother, and more elastic skin tone. Cellulite occurs because of circum- stances beyond your control, which can make this dimpling of the skin on the thighs and buttocks especial- ly frustrating. The Cellulaze™ Proce- dure targets the bands of connective tissue to dramatically reduce the in- dentations that appear on the skin’s surface. The procedure begins with the administration of a local anes- thetic to ensure your comfort. Next, Dr. Stephen T. Greenberg makes two very tiny incisions, each about the size of the tip of an ink pen. The Cellulaze™ laser fibers are thread- ed through a cannula (a very small tube) that is inserted through the incision site. The laser re- leases the bands of connective tissue and levels the larger bumps of fat. Meanwhile, the thermal energy produced by the laser stimulates colla- gen production (collagen is a group of natural proteins that give skin its youthful elasticity). During this process, some of the fat cells will liquefy, and they will be gently pressed out from beneath the skin. In total, the Cellulaze™ procedure typically takes between one and one- and-a-half hours to complete. Cellulaze™ is a procedure that involves very little downtime. Ninety-three percent of patients who have undergone Cellulaze™ have reported being satisfied with their results. Further studies have shown that after a year, Cellulaze™ patients achieve 25 percent thicker skin and 29 percent more skin elasticity. Living with cellulite can be incred- ibly frustrating. Diet and exercise cannot reduce cellulite. Liposuction and non-invasive procedures like Coolsculpting® and Emsculpt® can reshape your body, but can’t get rid of cellulite. Fortunately, Cellulaze™ is helping many patients to achieve dramatic, long-lasting cellulite reduction. Don’t wait any longer to start feeling confident and beautiful in your own skin.
