4-H Family Newsletter
October 2016
Hello Families!
We are already one month into our 2016-2017 4-H year!
Now is the time to start brainstorming what project areas
you plan on exploring for the year. To help grow with your
4-H experience, you may want to reflect on how to broaden
your horizons. Think about getting involved in 4-H
activities at the regional or state level, try a new project, or
even run for an officer election within your club! With 4-H,
the sky is the limit, and it is your adventure to create!
Kelsey
Join us for our Fall Festival!

see you there!

ing 4-H from October 5-16 by selling

MISSION STATEMENT 4-H EMPOWERS YOUTH TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL THROUGH YOUTH-ADULT
PARTNERSHIPS AND RESEARCH-BASED EXPERIENCES.
Annual Fall Banquet
4-H Families and Volunteers:
Please join us Sunday, November 6 at 6:00pm for our Annual Fall Awards
Banquet! It will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church reception hall
in Mason City.
This is a wonderful opportunity to gather and recognize youth who have
shown leadership achievement and knowledge about 4-H this past year.
Also included are a silent auction, prizes, and ice cream sundaes!
Silent Auction Baskets
Clubs should be finishing putting together their themed silent auction baskets.
Think about what “theme” to put together and the items people would like to bid
on. The funds raised from the silent auction will go towards Teen Council’s “Toys for
Tots” Christmas Fundraiser. Our goal is to raise $500 from these silent auction bas-
kets. Bidding will start at $15 so plan accordingly. Please have these baskets to the
Extension Office November 2.
Honorary & Alumni Awards
We are looking for suggestions from families and clubs for the Honorary and Alumni Awards that
will be recognized during the Fall Awards Banquet. Both awards are for people who have done an
outstanding job as volunteers and overall supporters of the Cerro Gordo 4-H program. An
honorary member is one who has never been a 4-H member. An alumni member is one who has
been a 4-H member, not necessarily in Cerro Gordo County.

4-H PLEDGE
I PLEDGE MY HEAD TO CLEARER THINKING, MY HEART TO GREATER LOYALTY, MY HANDS TO LARGER SERVICE,
AND MY HEALTH TO BETTER LIVING, FOR MY CLUB, MY COMMUNITY, MY COUNTRY, AND MY WORLD.
Fall Intermediate Retreat
Citizenship Washington Focus Fundraising Opportunity
Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) is a 4-H lead-
ership program for youth across the United States in
grades 9-12. Every Summer nearly 1,500 young people
stay at the National 4-H Conference Center near
Washington D.C. to participate in this week-long
leadership program.
Approximately 90 Iowa youth have the opportunity
through CWF to relate to the development of better
citizens and leaders. The week consists
of workshops, speakers, committee
work, field trips and social events.
June 16-24, 2017
Deadline to register is January 6, 2016. Trip cost will be
$1,570 which pays for all lodging, travel, tours and ma-
jority of meals. There will be scholarship opportuni-
ties. Visit the CWF page
www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/cwf to find the online
registration form and more information.
We have a fundraising opportunity!
As a county we will be selling butter
braids. This is a completely optional
fundraiser to participate
in. Funds raised will go
towards scholarships
for trips and county
wide activities.
4-H families will receive order forms by mail. This fundraiser will go until October 17. The forms need to be returned to the office by then. Butter braids will be delivered at the
Fall Awards Banquet on November 6.
Mark your Calendars for the upcoming Fall Intermediate Retreat that will be held
Saturday November 19 from 10am to 3pm at the 4-H Learning Center.
Youth will be involved in a fun-filled day that will include team building activities,
brainstorming, a community service project, and other fun activities!
This is open to all 6-8th graders.
Please let Kelsey know by November 14 if you will be attending.
