4-H COUNCIL MEETING

May 15, 2014

6pm

APRIL NEWS Mathis .............................................................................. Jesse Simmons On April 14, 2014, at 7:20pm, the Mathis 4-H Club’s monthly meeting was called to order. Luke Person called the meeting to order, and Jesse Simmons led the club in the US Pledge and the 4-H motto, pledge, and prayer. Sarah Simmons then called roll, and also read last month’s minutes. Nicole Alonzo read the treasurer’s report, and the club moved on to new business, which was the officer nominations, as well as the elections. The results are as follows: Luke Person, President; Jesse Simmons, Vice President; Sarah Simmons, Secretary; Joseph Simmons, Reporter; Lena Keese, Treasurer; Nicole Alonzo, Council Delegate; Madison Leal, Alternate Council Delegate; Westin Keese, Parliamentarian. After the nominations and elections, Luke read some announcements, and having no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:56pm. Ingleside ................................................................................ Katie Lopez Kellie Lopez called to order the April 13th 4-H meeting. Kellie recited the Pledge of Allegiance, Katie Lopez recited the 4-H Pledge, Dylan Lopez recited the 4-H Motto, and Kellie Lopez recited the 4-H Prayer. Roll call was called and the March minutes were read by Katie Lopez. Lauren Polasek gave the treasurer’s report. For old business, Mrs. Lopez handed out homemaking checks and the club voted to participate in the Ingleside Farmer’s Market. For new business, the club held elections for the up coming 4-H year club offices. Kaylie Lopez-voted President, Dylan Lopez-Vice President, Alison Arteaga-Secretary, Ashley Arteaga-Reporter, Alison Duncan-Secretary, Rheanna Smith-Council Delegate, and Matthew Smith-Historian. Kellie Lopez asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting, Rheanna Smith then made the motion to adjourn and Hannah Bearden second it. The meeting was adjourned. We then ate pizza and had soft drinks! It has been a great 4-H year! Blue Ribbon ..................................................................... Kathryn Buffa The Blue Ribbon 4-H Club’s monthly meeting was held April 13 at 4pm at the old Homemaking building. Tristan Frerich called the meeting to order and designated people to lead us in our pledges. Trent Weise said our Pledge of Allegiance, Mason Tannehill gave our 4-H pledge, Riley Seago gave our motto, and Ella Troup led us in prayer. Allison Surginer called roll and gave the minutes from the last meeting. Tristan gave the treasurer’s report in place of Hannah Curry, who was absent from this meeting. Connie Seago gave us a report on the Booster Club, and Doug Seago and Toby Frerich updated us on the A&H Show board. In this meeting we collected magazines for hospitals in the area, and the date of the delivery is to be announced. In New Business, we talked about 4-H Roundup and when the deadline to sign up is. Stacie Frerich gave the Club Manager’s report and introduced our program. Jared Cullison, Tristan Frerich and Megan Frerich talked about what it meant to be a 4-H Ambassador followed by a slide show. For recreation, we made letters and Memorial Day cards for service men and women. The next meeting will be on May 18 at 4pm, and we will be electing new officers.

Attention Club Managers:

The attendance roster is due within 7 days after your club’s meeting. If the Extension Office does not receive the roster along with the original sign in sheet, 4-H Meeting or Activity Report and a copy of the agenda, within the time limit, all club members will be counted absent.

If your address changes, PLEASE correct it on

4-H Connect:

http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/ The address needs to be corrected on the family profile AND in each individual’s profile. The labels for the newsletter and other miscellaneous mailings are generated by the information entered by you or your family. Don’t risk missing out on the monthly 4-H newsletter or other important mailings!

ADULT VOLUNTEER BACKGROUND CHECK To protect our 4-H members, the Texas 4-H Program administers an adult screening program. This screening is conducted every 3 years. All adults who will be working directly with youth (other than their own children) must complete the adult registration form on 4-H Connect to be screened. Once their registration has been approved from the State office, then we can certify those adults as San Patricio County volunteers. Only those adults who have been screened and cleared through YPS will have the privilege of working with 4-H members. There is a $10 fee for each adult who will be screened. Checks need to be made out to San Patricio 4-H Council and mailed to the Extension Office. Once a check has been received by the office, the office will mail off for the screening to be completed.

To be eligible to compete in the A&H Show in any division, (including Homemaking) you must attend at least 60% of club meetings. Attendance for the 2015 Show started in January, 2014. You must also meet UIL academic eligibility requirements by passing all of your classes. Start out the 4-H year right by attending club meetings and keeping your grades up!

New 4-H members must also attend 60% of their club meeting, however, their club attendance begins on Sept. 1, 2014. Only new 4-H members will be allowed to count January 2015 attendance.

Reminder:

If your animal loses its validation tag, call the Extension Office ASAP with the tag number so that a replacement

can be ordered.
