FOOD SAFETY QUALITY ASSURANCE
FSQA Training & Testing
What is FSQA?
FOOD SAFETY QUALITY ASSURANCE
Why is it Important?
In today's world, food safety is one of animal producers'
biggest responsibilities. With over 15,000 Iowa 4-H'ers
enrolled in livestock projects, about 17 million pounds of
meat is produced each year.
The goal of this program is to help youth and their parents
better understand what they can do to produce the safest
food possible.
Who needs to complete FSQA Training?
All 4-H Youth who plan to exhibit, swine, beef, sheep, dairy
cattle, rabbits, poultry, dairy goats or meat goats at any fair.
(FSQA Certification is not required for horse & dogs because
these species do not enter the food industry)
Does age of the 4-H’er make a difference in FSQA Certification?
Grades 4-6: MUST ATTEND FSQA WORKSHOP
Grades 7-9: MAY ATTEND WORKSHOP OR TAKE THE
INTERMEDIATE FSQA TEST
Grades 10-12: MAY ATTEND WORKSHOP OR TAKE THE
SENIOR FSQA TEST
What is the deadline?
Any 4-H’er wanting to show at the Buena Vista County Fair
must receive their FSQA Certification by June 24, 2016.

LIVESTOCK JUDGING TRAINING
Learn the basics of livestock judging from an experienced livestock judge, Dustin
Smith. We will be partnering with Cherokee County 4-H to learn about livestock judg-
ing, understand the reasoning behind competition placings, and get some real life ex-
perience evaluating cattle, sheep & swine.
This training will be a great foundation to help more of our county 4-H members feel
qualified to join the fun of a Livestock Judging Team! As a county we will provide op-
portunities for teams to participate in local and regional competitions.
Livestock Judging Training will be held at the Bomgaars/Expo Center at the Cherokee
Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 16th from 9am-11am. Call the Extension Office to
