4-H School Enrichment Programs for Schools and Home-School

The Champaign County 4-H School Enrichment program is offering a creative opportunity to grades K-5 in all five county schools beginning in November and running through the end of April. The 4-H STEM Classroom Challenges offer a monthly lesson in team building, creative thinking, and hands-on learning as they create and submit monthly entries for judging by grade level. Winners will be announced the first Monday of each month beginning in December and the winning classrooms will receive a classroom sign to hang for recognition. The idea behind the program is to invite creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, and group work back into our lives in a time forced into virtual learning and of the struggles that online classes bring to the table. The challenge utilizes everyday items that are easily recycled along with various things that are already on hand in the participating classroom(s), so there is no need for any additional cost or burden on the teachers participating. The only rule is to be creative. Therefore, the teachers can mold the challenge to either enhance their curriculum or as a well needed creative break. Supplies are being collected and cleaned in the OSU Extension office and are available for the classrooms, should they not have access to the monthly challenge item. The November challenge is what can you make from a cardboard box? Any box, any size, any shape… Currently, we have forty-five participating classroom in four of the five local school districts, and we are eagerly awaiting the entries on November 23, 2020. If you have any questions about the 4-H STEM Classroom Challenge or would like to sponsor or donate to the program, please contact Kiley Horn at [email protected] or Jenni Nott at [email protected].
