If you are ages 8-18 as of January 1, 2020 you are eligible to participate in 4-H!

4-H year! Note: Projects in 4HOnline were cleared again this year. We want to be able to more accurately report project numbers to stakeholders and on our State- level ES237 report. If you need your project history, it can be found under Member Reports in their family account.

• The photo release is just so we can put your child’s picture in the newspaper or on social media.

If you say “NO” to the photo release your child will be pulled from all group photos. You are more than welcome to choose no if that is what you decide.

Deadline for 4-Honline enrollment is APRIL 1st!

If you miss this deadline you MUST come to a 4-H Council meeting and explain why you are late! The 4-H Council has a ONE STRIKE policy!

2020 Special Garden Project For more information and guidelines for

This year the Special Gardening Project is focused on the unique,

Classic Magic Bachelor Button.

Classic Magic Bachelor Buttons are a unique mix of plum, purple, and bicolor flowers. Not only do the

flowers attract beneficial insects, they are edible as well.

Seeds have been ordered, if you would like to participate let me know and we will get a list started.

When the seeds arrive I will let you know.

Flaunt your photography, and submit your favorite photo for a chance for it to be showcased on the Nebraska 4-H social media channels.

The NEW 4-H Photography Showcase offers a project exhibition opportunity beyond traditional print media. This opportunity is intended to help youth develop professional and technical skills as photographers while fostering creativity and self-expression. Through this opportunity, youth are encouraged to practice and apply skills learned in their photography projects throughout the year.

4-Hers are invited to submit their favorite photos each month. A new photo will be selected each month to be showcased online, such as on the Nebraska 4-H Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages or on the Nebraska 4-H website. The 4-H Photography Showcase is open to enrolled 4-H members.

Panhandle 4-H & FFA Livestock Judging Clinic

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 29, 2020

9:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Learn how to judge cattle, pigs, sheep and goats as well as hot to write reasons. A contest will take place in the afternoon to use skills learned throughout the morning. Blaine French, UNL Livestock Judging coach and UNL team members will be leading the clinic.

Cost is $5 for the lunch cost.

PLEASE pre-register by February 24th!

4-H ANNUAL FUNDRAISER WHEN: Monday, March 30, 2020

WHERE: West Side Event Center - 2472 CR 62 - Alliance

TIME: 5:30 - 7:30 PM TICKETS: pre-sold $10 / at door $15

We will be mailing out tickets in February. There will be flyers that can be put up around town to get our 4-H supporters to come out for a night and help us raise money for the upcoming year!

There will be a Silent Auction and a “Buy & Take” Table.

If you or someone you know would like to donate to either of these please do so! Auction items, “Buy & Take items, ticket money and unsold tickets will be due to the office by Friday, March 27th! Baked items can be delivered on Monday, March 30 before 4 PM or brought to the event.

New in 2020 - The 4-H Council suggests that 4-H Clubs bring a themed basket for the silent auction (ex: coffee, peanut butter, chocolate, popcorn/movie, etc.). Basket items can be dropped off at the Extension Office or as specified by club leader. Baskets must be provided by the club and assembled by the club in time for the event. If your club wants to put your basket together at the office, it will be open Sunday, March 29 from 1:30-4:30 pm.

Note: This is not a requirement for clubs, just a suggestion to increase auction items.

4-H Movie Night When: Thursday, February 27th

Time: 5:00 - 7:00 PM Where: Box Butte County Extension Office

In honor of Nebraska 4-H Month being in February, the 4-H Council will be sponsoring a fun activity and movie night. Pizza and a drink will be provided to youth (2 piece of pizza limit). We will be doing a 30 minute activity called Hack your Harvest and watching “How to Train Your Dragon.”

This workshop is designed help youth learn more about the Shopping in Style 4-H project! Hopefully it will work into your Spring Break Schedule! We will be offering the workshop on the 5th and 12th since Alliance and Hemingford Schools have different Spring Break dates.

This course provides extensive training on tractor and all-terrain vehicle safety with a variety of hands-on activities. Instilling an attitude of ‘making safety a priority’ and respect for agricultural equipment are pri-mary goals of the course. Teens 14 or 15 years of age who work on farms, or others who are interested in learning about safe farming practices, are encouraged to register for the Nebraska Extension Tractor Safety & Hazardous Occupations Course. Anyone under age 14 is not eligible to take the class.

Cost of the course is $60 and includes educational materials, instruction, supplies, and lunch.

Classes begin at 8 a.m. If classes do not fill to the minimum of 10 participants, an option will be offered to do Day 1 training online and Day 2 in person.
