LATEST GUIDELINES WITH REGARDS THE PANDEMIC FROM THE
BISHOPS CONFERENCE OF ENGLAND & WALES
I have now received the latest guidance from the Bishops Conference of England and Wales with regards
precautions surrounding the virus. This was a long document with lots of information - a copy of which is
available on the parish websites.
Funerals - the maximum that are allowed to attend a funeral in church is 30 - this is the same whether it
is a Requiem Mass or a Funeral Service. Strict social distancing must be maintained at all times.
Weddings - the maximum number that may attend a wedding in church is 15. Again, this is the case whether
it is a Wedding Mass or a Wedding Service. Strict social distancing must be maintained.
Baptisms - the maximum number that can now attend is 6.
The reasons for these numbers are explained in the Bishops’ document, which is available online.
Masses - our current arrangements for Mass attendance are the same in both St Mary’s & St Patrick’s. Strict
social distancing must be maintained.
Booking a Place at Mass - You can book a place at Mass either online through the Parish websites;
St Mary’s Church - www.stmarybatley.co.uk
St Patrick’s Church - https://stpatricksbirstall.org.uk
or by phoning Fr Eamonn on (01924) 474650.
The office for booking a place at weekend Masses either online or by phone is;
Open - Mondays at 9.00am & Closes Friday 8.00pm
It looks like these restrictions will be in place for at least another 6 months. Let us all do all we can to try and
keep ourselves and each other safe at this time. For full details regarding all aspects of church worship and
precautions please see the parish websites.
FORTHCOMING FUNERALS
Mary Cafferty (RIP) - Funeral Service - Tuesday 6th October at 11.00am - St Mary’s Church
Richard Conlon (RIP) - Requiem Mass - Tuesday 13th October ay 12.30pm - St Mary’s Church
Thank you to the family of Cindy Carter (RIP) - On behalf of the parish, may I say a big ‘thank you’ to the
family of Cindy Carter RIP. Cindy’s funeral took place recently in St Mary’s and they had a collection in her
memory for St Mary’s Church. This collection actually raised £268.26 for us. This is a great boost and much
appreciated. Please remember Cindy in your prayers and also Joe and the family at this time.
NOVEMBER ONLINE BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE - Due to the ongoing threat of the Coronavirus, it is highly
unlikely that we will be able to hold our annual Service of Prayerful Remembrance for our Faithful Departed.
However, I have decided, with the help of Michelle Anderson, to produce for St Mary’s & St Patrick’s an
Online Book of Remembrance where the names of all our loved ones are written and prayed for. This will
also give us the added benefit of being able to pray for more of our faithful departed each week as their
anniversaries come up.
If you would like the names of your loved ones included in this Book of Remembrance please fill in one of
the forms which are available at the back of church with their names and date of death (for purposes of
remembering the anniversary).
Alternatively feel free to email me the details (names and date of death) to;
and I will make sure they are included.
INFORMATION FOR THE PARISHES
The Online Book of Remembrance will be opened on the 1st November and will be available on the parish
websites from day onwards. There will be a dedicated page on our parish websites for our faithful departed,
including the Book of Remembrance and various prayers for the dead, including Morning a& Evening Prayer
from the Office for the Dead.
You will be able to add the names of your loved ones at any time throughout the year. Once the Book is
launched. The names of our faithful departed that week, will be remembered in the parish bidding prayers
in future. People will still be able to requested Masses being said for their loved ones as normal.
NOTICE FOR RED BOX COLLECTORS FROM SR. GEMMA - In view of the Lockdown restrictions there will be no APF Red Box Collection in October this year. Let us hope that the Spring will be an easier and better time for the next collection and indeed a better time for all of us. If you have a problem you can contact me on 09124 474640. Take care and keep well during these bleak times!
FORTHCOMING COLLECTIONS CAFOD HARVEST FAST DAY - Friday 9th October 2020 - Envelopes available in church

1ST CONFESSIONS & 1ST HOLY COMMUNION 2020 / 2021 - As you know, due to the virus, there has been a
long delay in celebrating these important Sacraments for our children. We are now planning to complete the
children’s preparation for the 2020 cohort and celebrate the Sacraments and quickly and safely as possible.
Once this is done we will then begin preparations for the children to celebrate these Sacraments next year.
May I say a big ‘thank you’ to the teachers of our wonderful Primary Schools who have offered to complete
the preparation for the children in order that they can receive these Sacraments as soon as possible.
Supporting Your Parish Financially - I will like to say a big ‘thank you’ to you all who have continued to
support your parish financially at this difficult time. You really have been very generous in so many ways.
There are various ways in which we are able to support the parish - as follows;
Giving by Text – We now have the facility to take offerings using text messaging. To use this service and to
contribute £5 to the Parish Offertory, please text;
CHURCH BATLEY to 70500 CHURCH BIRSTALL to 70500
Standing Order Mandate – More and more people are paying their offertory collection by Standing Order,
rather than using cash each week. If you would like to start using this facility please download the standing
order form from the parish website or contact Annette Crowther and she will arrange to post one to you.

Pay by Card – following advice from the Diocese we now have a facility available to the parish, whereby
people can make donations to the parish via their bank cards. This facility is available on the parish website
and is very quick and easy to use.
Online Prayer Intentions – We now have a new facility on our website for our personal prayer intentions.
You are very welcome submit your prayer requests and we as a parish will also remember these prayer
intentions in our own prayers. It is good as a parish that we not only pray with each other, we also pray for
each other too. If you wish to use the ‘Online Prayer Intentions facility, please see the parish websites.
Parish Memory Lane Page – If you have any old photos / stories / articles of the parish of yester-year we
would love you to share them on our new ‘Parish Memory Lane’ page. This can be of anything you wish

continued support here.
