drive traffic to your content
1. Start by researching the keywords your competitors use
• Even if you have no idea where to start; this will tell you the industry keywords. These are keywords that at least some of your target customers are familiar with
• This is just the starting point though. There may be strong competition to rank on the search engine first page if your competitors already use these words
• Save these keywords to an Excel CSV file to make it easier to use the next tool
Tool #1: SpyFu

2. Use Google AdWords to find similar keywords
• Take the list of words from step 1 and use Google AdWords to find similar keywords that may be easier to rank with
• Consider creating new terms. If you can create a new keyword that customers learn then you can dominate the search rankings. A good example of this is HubSpot and the term ‘inbound marketing’
• Remember that for smaller companies, it’s much more practical to rank highly in a 6-word search than a 2-word search
Tool #2: Google AdWords

• Avoid over-use of keywords, more than 5 uses of the same keyword on a page might damage your ranking
• Clarity Grader also helps improve the readability of your content which gives you a better conversion rate

• As people click these links the traffic will improve your search engine ranking
• Facebook & Google+ are also good for B2C companies. There are lot’s of new platforms that rise, and sometimes fall, in popularity. However, it’s better to have a strong presence on a few platforms than spread yourself too thinly
