Averill, VTNamed after Samuel Averill, a
prosperous businessman and land
speculator, from Kent, Connecticut as part
of the Wentworth Grants. Averill has
never been formally incorporated, as its
population has never reached an
adequate level. However, this has not
prevented the influx of tourists during all
seasons of the year. Popular winter
activities include hunting, snowmobiling,
and snowshoeing. Many tourists, New
Englanders, and Canadians make Big and
Little Averill Pond a warm-weather
destination for vacation fun on the water
and under the sun.
