Christians in Iraq need your help: Before the Iraq War began in 2003, Christians in Iraq numbered about one million out of a population of 25 million. In September 2014, an estimated 300,000 Christians remained. Since then, the Knights of Columbus have raised more than $10.5 million for relief, assisting Christians and other internally displaced persons and refugees in Iraq and the region. The Pullman council of the Knights of Columbus is joining this effort and collecting donations for the resettlement of Karamles (a predominantly Christian town that was destroyed by ISIS) and other such communities, and invites parishioners of Sacred Heart to join with us. The weekend of January 27 & 28 there will be a second collection for this cause. Please make checks payable to “KofC Council 7360” and note “Refugee Relief” on the memo line. 100% of your donation goes to refugee relief. See the Columbian magazine article Knights to Save Destroyed Town (www.kofc.org/en/news/releases/knights-to-save-destroyed-town.html) for info.

Social Outreach Corner

“If you want peace, work for justice” Pope Paul VI “Let us work together to find concrete solutions to help the poor, refugees, victims of modern forms of slavery, in order to promote peace” Pope Francis

I encourage you always to have prophetic courage in rejecting everything that demeans human beings, and all forms of exploitation that degrade them. Continue to show those signs of hospitality and solidarity, great and small, which can light up the lives of children and old people, migrants and refugees in search of peace. . . . Let it be your care to support, with renewed commitment, processes of development and paths of peace in the countries from which these brothers and sisters are fleeing or have left behind to seek a better future. (Pope Francis, 11/17/16, Caritas Internationalis)
