1.5. Power supply

1.5.1. Type of power supply

For 50 kW X-ray generator a three-phase system is needed.

The three-phase system must be balanced, i.e. the external conductor voltages against earth must be about equal, see sketch.

For reasons of operational safety and compliance with international rules, operation on three-phase mains that arefloating or unbalanced to earth (e.g. with one phase earthed instead of the neutral point) is impermissible unlessadequate adaptation measures have been taken! Check that the sequence of phases is correct corresponding tothe designations L1, L2, L3.

1.5.2. Calculating the mains resistances

If possible, the sum of R1 , R2 and R3 should be smallerthan the RXG required.

With higher internal mains resistances the generatoroutput is reduced respectively.

Note that the cross section of lead l3 must not exceed25mm2.

-- R0 designates the mains resistance on the distributor transformer.

-- R1 is dependent upon the length of lead l1 between distributor transformer and main distributor and upon thecross section selected, so:

R1 = l1 x RCu RCu from table-- R2 is estimated to be 15mΩ

EMERGENCY--OFF switch 4mΩ Earth--leakage circuit breaker 5.5mΩ 15mΩFuse 5.5mΩ

-- R3 is dependent upon the length of lead l3 between main distributor and wall junction box and upon the crosssection selected, so:

R3 = l3 x RCu RCu from table

The resistances already consider the go and return line so that the calculation can be based on simple cablelengths.

5. Site planning

5.1. Planning data

The preliminary planning work is restricted to the selection of the suitable room. The outfit of the room has to beequipped with the conduits and pipes required and, in cases where the loading capacity of the bearing area plusweight of patient insufficient, the floor preparation for the table.

For detailed information about loading area see Z--5.

Where DIN specification are not applicable the minimum wall clearances should be determined in compliance withthe national regulations concerned.

5.2. Determining the site of installation

The choice of the suitable room should be based on the layout plan.

For detailed information see Z--3.1, Z--3.2, Z--4.1, Z--4.2

5.3. Floor fixing

The table is fixed by means of 4 bolts and the column rails are fixed by means of 4 + 2 bolts (ext. rail left or rightpos.) also.

Use e.g. Liebig safety dowels S12 on compound plaster floor concrete class Bn 150 or Upat--PSZ anchor dowelstype B or S12 on compound plaster floor concrete class Bn 250 or other national requirements.

The mounting points on mounting surface have to be suitable for tensile strength of F ≥ 2500N each.

In case of ”computer floors” (stilted floors) an appropriate understructure or staybolts have to be used. For detailed information see Z--5

5.4. Loading capacity of floor

Surface load table and column = 750kg plus 135kg weight of patient.

Surface load X--ray generator = 250kgFor detailed information see Z--5

5.5. Height of the room

For detailed information see Z--1.1 or Z--1.2

5.6. Electrical data

The bucky DIAGNOST TS is supplied incl. all necessary cables incl. plugs with required free length between themain components like X--ray generator and table.

For detailed information see Z--6.1 and Z--7, Z--8, Z--50

S Bucky device, light beam localiser and coupling barmust be aligned in a vertical plane.

S If necessary, align the system by adjusting centralswivel (1), lower swivel (2) and position control bar.

3.11.6. Alignment for center line= center of bucky

If the center line 3 is not in center of bucky proceed asfollows.

S The tomo coupling bar is y centered vertical (4).

S Open screws (5) on tomo coupling bar androtate/twist the tube support arm.

S The center line will still be in center of bucky tray (asshown in pos. 3).

3.11.7. Checking drive and position controlswitches

For parameter setting and control please refer to theoperating manual.

Procedure:S Move the column carefully from its center position

towards the left and right end positions and check thefollowing items:

-- the magnetic switch does not touch the positioncams.

-- the micro switches S17/S20 are not damaged orsheared off when passing a cam.

-- the magnetic switch is triggered at each angleposition cam and the end position cams. This canbe checked by observing the red LED on themagnetic switch B1.

S Test the safety limit switches: Move the columnmanually to the left and right limit switch positions. The limit switch must be triggered (I/O--LED 35 ontomo controller (PLC) lits) and the system beswitched off.

S Initiate a tomo test cycle on the control panel:Select <Tomo> mode with 40°/4s. Press the <Test>key until the cycle is completed and check thefollowing items:

-- the column moves first to the left (1).

-- the column moves at constant speed and withoutjerks (otherwise check: cable routing, railalignment, dirt on rail surface, spring pressure, driving axle).

-- the eccentric disk operates correctly (otherwisecheck coupling motor (M 3) and position switch UBS16 or both springs are ”fixed too tight”.Therefore, check the distance from screw head tothe nut as shown in the figure. The distance asshown must be 15 ± 0.5mm.

-- the driving wheels grip firmly (otherwise increasespring pressure).

-- the column reverses automatically at the endposition on each side.

-- the bucky device moves smoothly and withoutjerks (otherwise check alignment of the couplingbar).

-- the position control switches (magnetic switch andmicroswitches) operate correctly, see first step.

-- the position of the coupling bar is vertical aftercompletion of a cycle.

-- the distance between control switch B1 and tomoposition cams should be 1mm.

-- If the sequence is aborted, check the function ofthe position control switches (see first step).

-- If the sequence is aborted due to timeout (errorcode 30, see Chapter ”trouble shooting”), increasethe motor supply voltage by switching to the nexthigher transformer tap (see schematic diagramZ1--2).

S Repeat the tomo test cycle with 40°, 20° and 8°sweeps, with high and low speed settings. Again, check whether any anomalities occur during the test.

3.12. Tomo adjustment under exposureconditions (tomo only)

3.12.1. Measurement of X-ray zone

Two exposures are to be taken on the same film.

First exposure = BuckyS Set the parameters for exposure 1 (without tomo):

-- Small focus

-- SID = tomo SID

-- X-ray area = 200 mm x 200 mm-- Exposure values = 40 kV / 6.3 mAs

Second exposure = Tomo

S Set the parameters for exposure 2 (with tomo):-- Small focus

-- SID = tomo SID

-- X-ray area = 150 mm x 200 mm

-- Tomo height = 130mm-- Exposure values = 40° / 50 kV / 12.5 mA

-- Tomo time = 2 s

S Take the exposure in tomo mode (tomo on) anddetermine the following values:

-- a = _____mm

-- b = _____mm

S Check it these values meet the following conditions:

-- ∆ a, b = ≤ 10 mm

-- Σ a, b = ≤ 80 mm

S If the above conditions are not fulfilled, check whetherthe free movement of the α--drive and bucky moduleis impaired.

S If under-voltage is indicated on the generator controlboard, the motor will supply voltage by switching tothe next higher transformer tap (see schematicdiagram Z1--2).

3.12.2. Symmetry of tomo axis

S Position the lead plate - 100mm above the X-Raycassette.

The X-ray cassette ist positioned on the table-top.

S Collimate the X-ray field (1) as far as the ”hole” will beexposed during the whole tomo sweep.

S Take an exposure in center position (bucky mode) =70 kV / 10 mAs

S Take an exposure in tomo mode. 70 kV 2 sec 5 mA40° .

The result should look like as shown in the figure:

-- c ≈ d, i.e. the generator should switch off shortlybefore the system.

-- No undervoltage indication should appear on thegenerator.

S Check whether these values meet the followingconditions:

-- |c|--|d| < 5mm.

S If the result is not symmetrical, proceed as follows:-- In case of overvoltage lower the tomo speed by

selecting a higher resistance with jumpers onboard SZ2 = fine adjustment, i.e. reduce the supplyvoltage of the drive or reduce the voltage attransformer T2 side for slow speed = coarse adj.17.5V / 15.5V / 13.5V ore available. For high speedprogr. 31V / 33V or 37V.

-- In case of unsymmetry (c < d) increase the tomospeed by selecting a lower resistance with jumperson board SZ2., i.e raise the supply voltage of thedrive
