JOIN THIS NATIONAL 4-H CAMPAIGN

In 4-H, we believe in the power of America’s youth to succeed in life;

however, only one in three kids says they have the skills they need to handle

what life throws their way.

That’s why 4-H created “Raise Your Hand.” A nationwide call to action for

alumni to "raise their hands" to empower our nation's youth with the skills to

lead for a lifetime.

Help us grow the next generation of True Leaders - because every child

deserves the opportunity to succeed.

CLUB NEWS:

Prairie Pioneers Club News

Recently, we had a BLAST tubing at Sunburst

for 2 HOURS!!! Shortly after, we had our next

meeting and made beautiful Valentine cards for

residents that need rehabilitation at Three Pil-

lars. On January 14th, we delivered the cards to

the Three Pillars; it was so cool to see the smiles

on their faces!!! We start off our upcoming

events with a nice treat… frosting Valentine

COOKIES on Thursday, February 16th!!! Later

in March, we plan on having a painting class at

the Town Hall. Soon after, our club’s b-ball

players will be ending the basketball season

with a 3-game tournament - GOOD LUCK

GUYS!!! Lastly, we hope to go bowling for our

monthly activity in March.

-Club Reporter, Bennett Moore

On February 11th, the Green n Growing 4-H club visited the Kirkland

Crossing Senior home in Pewaukee, WI and we played

Bunco with some of the residents. Everyone had a great

time and we gave out prizes too! We will be back to play

more games with them later this month on the 25th.

During our February meeting, we invited local firefighter,

Robert Cull, to give a talk about fire safety. He helped

club member, Amanda Schmidt, experience what it would

be like to wear the heavy firefighter uniform.

Next, club member Isaiah Scepanski

demonstrated horse riding gear. And, after all

of that excitement, we decorated Valentines

cookies and voted on our new club

T-shirt design.

CLUB NEWS:

4-Leaf 4-H Club:

At the February meeting, we made bird houses and an electric beeping button. The theme of the

month was Mechanical Sciences. We had two speakers that talked about LEGOs. One was a 4-H

member and the other had worked as a designer for the LEGO Group. In the January meeting, we

made rain sticks, shopping bags, and pillows. The shopping bags were made out of recycled feed

bags.

Cooney Clovers:

Several members participated in the Performing Arts Day on

February 4th. It really was a fun time playing our instruments,

doing a demo, making a craft and volunteering to help

promote 4H.

Muckey 4H has been busy this past

year. In the fall we raked leaves for Phantom

Ranch Bible Camp. It was nice weather that

day so we had fun at the ranch even though it

was hard physical work. In December we had

a carnival and raised money for our favorite

charity. The kids chose to send the money to

Phantom Ranch this year. In January we had

a very short meeting at the Petit Ice Skating

Center and then we all learned how to ice

skate. It was a challenge that was well worth

the effort! February we wrote up stories

about how 4H has impacted our lives which

will be shared at the Blue Ribbon Gala in

March. Our projects are in full swing now

and everyone is enjoying learning about new

things.

Purple Loosestrife Beetle Growing Program

Start a purple loosestrife (Bio-Control) beetle WHEP program in your own county. Raising purple

loosestrife beetles is the long term (Bio-Control) solution for controlling the invasive purple loose-

strife plants. Purple loosestrife displaces native wetland vegetation and in moist soil areas. Start

growing plants in April and add 10 beetles in early June. Those beetles will turn into about 1,000

beetles in July before just before release. The beetles will only eat purple loosestrife, and nothing

else. It’s really hard work - you just water the plants once a week or as needed. Purple loosestrife

thrives in nearly every county in Wisconsin. Look around.

You can get involved in raising the “Beetles” that eat this invasive species (Purple Loosestrife). Learn

how to identify the plant. Start by taking pictures of the flowering plants. They are very easy to recognize

at that stage. Record the locations of the purple loosestrife infestations wherever you see them. Save

those pictures and information and you’ll have a head start on your Purple Loosestrife program. Contact

us for additional information about setting up a beetle growing program in your county.

If you are interested in participating in this WHEP program please contact Norb/Barb Yogerst:

[email protected] or Gayle Nicoll: [email protected]
