In the seminar, all people who can take the first crucial decisions on the application or not of the Guide’s experiences
and examples participated, since in one way or another they will affect the application
The purpose of this meeting, which was a request by the preceding 3 national working groups, was to review the
conclusions and agreements to date, the information and outlook of the Director of Primary Education and of the
School Counsellor who monitors the implementation of such projects at schools
 During the 3rd
meeting the group for ROM-UP! project undertook to inform all participants about the work so far and
the preceded conclusions, to present on a video-projector the suggested actions and to correct on the spot those
points where a disagreement exists between the different parties involved in the seminar.
The Director of Primary Education, and the school counsellor made their own presentations and recommendations
for implementation.
The process of correction of the final plan by the attendees reached an agreed plan of implementation and a text of a
political declaration, which was forwarded to the Municipality of Volos for voting.
The municipality of Volos adopted a Resolution by a decision of its Executive Committee, by declaring that it will take
all essential measures to promote the integration of Roma children’s education based on the action plan prepared,
on condition that all stakeholders will be present in the consultation
In brief, the participants have been committed and have co-decided the following:
The best use of the successful educational experiences for the integration of Roma pupils, especially those in the
10th and 17th Primary Schools. The best use of the successful educational experiences being proposed by the 2
schools for implementation and by the neighbouring schools which may host Roma pupils.
The issue of Roma students’ diaspora, from underprivileged schools towards schools with better infrastructures, is a
key for the implementation of new tools such as the successful educational experiences of ROM-UP! guide.
The municipal authority shall inform the educational administration that the dispersion of students constitutes a part
of the integration policy of the municipality and that it is ready to actively support its implementation. The resolution
of the issue of the daily transportation of pupils to schools of diaspora. The Roma Support Centre in Aliveri can
contribute to the issue of on time attendance of pupils at schools of diaspora.
Information by the Direction of Primary Education about how it has succeeded in recording the issue of dispersion
and “which” solutions it has designed. Which are the neighbouring schools and which ones of them have an available
capacity. School units with available capacities may be rather "more ready" to take part. Following the selection of
the neighbouring schools, the number of Roma students (their percentage) who will be dispersed should be set,
together with the criteria of their selection (e.g. dispersion of a part of those students who have regularly graduated
from the nursery school and are going to enrol in the 1st
grade of the Primary School).
