We are glad to hear your suggestions for improving our products and creating new ones. We listen, and make changes for the better. I hope you feel like we treat you as members of our 5.11 family, because that’s the way it feels to me. I’d like to take this opportunity to answer some of your most frequently asked questions.

How does 5.11 develop products with input from public safety professionals? We reach out to professionals in the most demanding areas of public safety to understand their needs in detail. While I haven’t served as a police officer, firefighter or EMS professional, I feel enormous responsibility to listen and align my team in order to give you the best products possible to execute your missions with confidence. Every 5.11 product is based directly on your input. With this catalog we’re proud to introduce more than 40 new products and improvements to existing products.

What new products are you most excited about? It’s hard for me to pick favorites, but I’ll share a few highlights: Based on your feedback, we’ve updated the designs of our RUSH Backpacks (pp 82-83)and added new colors. You’ll find a variety of new MultiCam® products (pp 16-17) and this summer we are introducing great new Taclite® Boots and Tactical Trainers (pp 42-43).

Why is 5.11 raising prices on some products? While overall inflation in the United States remains at relatively low levels, the apparel industry is experiencing an unprecedented one-two punch. Material prices, particularly cotton, are experiencing rapid increases due to smaller yields at a time of increasing global demand. Further, factories around the world are dealing with large labor cost increases. We faced a choice of taking quality out of our products, or asking you to live with some price increases to offset part of the material and labor inflation. We chose the latter as we believe our mission demands that we continue to give you the best possible products.

What does 5.11 mean? The 5.11 Tactical Pants have been in use for more than 30 years, in fact longer than our company has existed. The term “5.11” comes from the mountain climbing Yosemite Decimal System and a “5.11 pitch” is the most technically challenging and extreme climb in the Yosemite Valley. Today our entire product line builds on the heritage of being the most comfortable, durable and effective products to support you in any environment.

Today there are more and more women in law enforcement operating side-by-side with men in the field. The Women’s Tactical Association was established in 2009 to help elevate women’s tactical training opportunities and promote camaraderie between sworn officers nationwide.

5.11 Tactical® is proud to have hosted the Women’s Tactical Association for a product development meeting focusing on women’s apparel and gear. The meeting was an overall success where a wide range of topics was discussed - with the resounding issue being fit. The women adamantly agreed that fit is crucial and ties into many other important factors such as function, comfort, and mobility.

“We need to be able to rely on our equipment, not distracted by it. If our gear and uniforms fit properly our attention is easier focused on the matter at hand, which can be a life-or-death situation.” said Karen Bartuch, President and Founder of the Women’s Tactical Association.

The design team at 5.11 Tactical depends upon the comments of our end users to help us develop and improve our products. We’re especially grateful for the time, thoughtful evaluation and honest discussion the attendees from the Women’s Tactical Association had to offer.
